Jake and Kenny landed beside the sleeping Mira and the thread that connected them dissipated. Jake looked at the completely leveled Pentagon and said “Kenny, scout ahead”. Kenny nodded and a cat sized black spider made of aura crawled down from his back, it was the source of the thread.

About 50 identical black spiders manifested around Kenny and crawled toward the flatted remains of the Pentagon. Kenny sat on the ground and closed his eyes as he switched to sensing with the spiders’ senses.

10 minutes of scouting passed. Kenny focused on searching underground for what survived. Kenny’s brows arched up and he said with his eyes closed “Jake, there are some people still alive underground”.

Jake’s eyes widened and he said “The hell? Tell me where”. Kenny said “10 floors down, east side, they’re in some sort of bunker”. Jake nodded and dashed to the location while Kenny continued searching.

Jake arrived at the ruins of the Pentagon and punched the ground above the location Kenny described. He had some questions he wanted to ask, he just hoped that important people survived so they would have the answers he needed.

Jake’s descent continued for 2 kilometers until he arrived above a bunker. He extended his claws on one hand and covered them with red aura shaped as claw extensions. He then swiped his claws round cutting a circular hole under his feet.

The circle fell as Jake completed it, bringing him into a room with 23 terrified people that were pointing various new gen weapons at him. There was a huge pile of rations and weapons at the corner of the room. Jake raised his hands to show his amnesty while looking around at the people left. His eyes spotted a woman in her late 50s in the back of the room and he heaved a sigh internally before saying “I’m not a monster. We just fought the monsters outside to save you guys; we can protect you in our city… If you want that is”

A man said while trembling “B-But y-you’re a m-monster”. The man looked to be in his late 50s, he had grey hair with a few black strands, an unkempt black beard with some grey strands and his white skin trembled as he looked at Jake’s claws, fangs, pale white skin and red eyes.

Jake put down one of his hands and removed a chain from his pocket and threw it to the trembling man. The man backed away swiftly and looked down at what Jake threw at him, dog tags. On it was the name Jake Denari and other information about Jake.

Jake said “I’m Jake Denari a Navy Seal before the apocalypse. I have evolved is why I look like this. The monster that owns the pentagon now might be on its way here now after the big explosion that happened some minutes ago so I advice that you make your decision quickly… If you chose to stay though, you have to go somewhere else since I punched my way down here. The monster will certainly find you when we return”

The grey haired man put down his laser gun and said to Jake “Let’s get out of here then”. Jake smiled and said “I’ll be back soon. Pack your things some spiders will carry you out”. He walked to the woman he had eyed earlier and carried her as he jumped up through the hole he used to get to the bunker. He swiftly reached Kenny, put down the woman and told him to use is spiders to carry the people out of the bunker.

Kenny said “I’ve found the blue prints of the nukes and some other stuff in a hard drive. I’m bringing it up now”. Jake nodded and said “Good work”.

He turned to the woman and said “Secretary of state Felicia Renoa. I have some questions for you. I hope you don’t mind answering”. Felicia nodded and Jake asked “Why was there no nuclear action taken against the monsters?”

Felicia answered “Why would any nuclear action be taken? It would cost as much human life as it would the monsters. Hell, the monsters might even survive the nukes. No one in their right mind would do that”.

Jake nodded and said “I wasn’t just a regular seal maim. I know the president would have hit some places with nukes as a test. I know that there are special suits and devices that have been developed that are capable of fending off the radiation that people can wear to survive in a place that has been nuked. I know about plan Doom’s Day. I want to know why it wasn’t used in a literal Doom’s Day”.

Felicia looked at Jake in surprise for a moment before she sighed and said “I also want to know too… You see I was on a call with the president the day the monsters arrived. We were talking about plans to take Jade from the Nigerian military prison and find out his secret when the monsters appeared out of nowhere and attacked the white house. I cut the call to handle the situation but we were also attacked an hour after that.

I called the president again but the first thing he asked me about was if I had already sent an undercover team to capture Jade yet. Can you believe it? He was asking me about Jade when monsters were coming out of thin air!”

Jake furrowed his brows in deep thought ‘The monsters attacked the most heavily guarded places in the world on the day Jade was caught. Could it be a coincidence or was this planned? Could the president have thought that Jade was responsible for the monsters and was desperate for an answer?’

Jake said “It could be that the president thought that Jade was responsible for the monsters appearance. We never found out how he kept taking people under our noses”.

Although Jade had just simply teleported people away, the investigators couldn’t just say that people were literally disappearing and there was nothing they could do about it. So it was concluded that the stealer of men had hacked the cameras they used and deleted surveillance footage and that he had hypnotized the guards that they put on watch to simply believe that they had seen the people they were protecting disappear. They wanted to find out how Jade hypnotized such a large amount of people without leaving any traces.

Some people even claimed he was using magic (Juju) to do it but no one paid them any mind. There had to be a clear and logical explanation for how he did it. But now that the monsters had made an appearance it was hard to ignore the fact that Jade might have used some supernatural means to do his kidnappings.

Felicia shook her head in response to Jake’s suggestion and said “In such a situation the drill is to focus on survival not on finding the culprit. The fact that the president was focusing on the wrong thing is what bothers me, he is a very kind person so I didn’t expect him to ignore the people’s survival and focus on a mystery.

Regardless, I asked him about plan Doom’s Day but he cut the call, I kept calling but he didn’t answer until his phone was switched off. I had some double agents that I could call to bypass his authority and launch a nuke. I had been in this office for a while so I can pull some strings… some really powerful strings. But of all the people I called no one answered me except one. The soldier was running away when she picked my call, I got that from her heavy breathing and loud and fast footsteps, but she got shot before she could say anything to me.

Shot, not bitten into pieces by monsters but shot, I heard the shot through the phone and the call was cut after that, when I called again it was switched off. I can only guess that someone interfered with plan Doom’s Day and I really don’t want to assume that it was the president since many things could cause him to not answer the phone in such a situation but it doesn’t change the fact that someone with a gun killed a soldier that could have helped me start plan Doom’s Day”

Jake sighed and rubbed his nose bridge in exasperation as he thought ‘I really wanted it to be aliens but if whole situation was caused by people. I really don’t know what I’ll do’. He looked toward the people that were jogging towards him and the black spider holding something in its mandibles following them. He said “We’ll continue this discussion later, for now we have to escape before the monsters return”.
