《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 110: Unnoticed Ability

Mira removed her armor and held Havoc in her hand and she performed an aura slash with it. Jade simply swatted the slash away like it was a bug and said “Oh sorry, I’ll dodge next time” without looking away from the book.
Mira looked at Havoc and thought ‘The attack power and speed is lower than mine. If I chose to just lunge and punch him I would have had a better chance. *sigh* I guess I’m quite accustomed to having long range options’.
Mira dropped Havoc and Tranquil, she took a stance and gathered energy in her fists. She thought ‘Hmm, the major damaging factor is this skill so is it necessary to make a fist’ she spread out her palms and thought ‘This way there is more surface area to transfer energy through’.
She lounged at Jade and performed a palm strike… she missed; Jade had dodged he was standing at her side, she hadn’t seen him move. She thought in frustration ‘It’s no good if I can’t hit him!’ She looked at her palm and thought ‘I don’t always have to hit him right?’
She tried the idea that came to her. She used her skill but this time her target was the air around her. The skill worked and the air exploded and threw her back some meters away. She roughly landed with a smile and thought ‘It can be used for mobility!’.
She used the skill on the air a few times to gain better understanding of how to use it. She switched from using it on her hands to using it on her legs and found the results to be a little bit acceptable. Her feet were not as flexible as her palms so she could not easily control the direction the explosions took her with it. Mira thought ‘With more time I’ll get used to it’.
While Mira was getting used to the new form of utilization for her skill Jade was reading the Energy Sight spell. The patterns that seemed complex to the sanctuary were quite simple to him. The spell book didn’t just detail the patterns of the spells but also which patterns to begin with when casting the spell to make it easier to remember the next pattern and to avoid mistakes.

In essence as long as the energy patterns that formed the spell were made, the spell would activate but keeping up control of energy while creating new patterns was a tasking job for High Humans. The solution they used was to start by making the simpler patterns and proceed to the more complex patterns as the spell creation progressed.
Jade followed their advice and swiftly crafted the spell on his eyes. A new but familiar world appeared to him as he saw the energy around Mira; he saw how it condensed on her hands and feet as she controlled it. He could see energy with Horus but seeing it without a device was a new feeling to him. The Energy Sight spell didn’t allow him see psychic energy like Horus could but it was a start.
Jade asked “Have you learnt this energy sight spell? It’s very handy” Mira answered “As expected. No I haven’t learnt it. For your information learning Magic isn’t supposed to be as easy as you’re making it”.
Jade laughed and said “That’s because I’m not a meat head masochist who only learns when their life is in danger”. Mira replied “That is also why you’ll never learn Martial Arts”. Jade winced when he heard that and took another spell book; he was going for a spell with a more noticeable effect, the Explosion spell.
After some minutes of practice Mira got the hang of using her new skill to move around. She told Jade “I’m coming at you again, you ready?” Jade nodded without looking away from the book.
Mira took a stance, condensed energy on the soles of her feet and her palms and lounged at Jade. While she was in the air she used her skill on one of her legs and she shot toward Jade at a break neck speed. She was moving so fast that she had already reached her destination before she realized it. As the force from the explosion reduced and her speed decreased she performed a palm strike at Jade but he wasn’t where she was aiming for; he had dodged.

Through her energy zone she sensed that he was on her left so she moved the arm that she used for the strike to the right and used the skill. The air exploded and she pushed close to Jade again at an even greater speed. She did another palm strike which was blocked by Jade’s arm.
Mira’s eyes lit up when she felt Jade’s skin and she activated her skill, seeping the energy into his body and making it detonate… but nothing happened. To Mira’s puzzled face Jade said “It worked, the explosion wasn’t strong enough to break anything in my arm. Maybe you should go for my eyes next time”.
Mira sighed and said “In that case can you try to attack me? This is supposed to be a spar” Jade replied “Sure, make some distance, let me try this new spell but first let’s try something”. Jade expanded his energy zone until it covered his body and said “Try to use your skill on me again”.
Mira did a palm strike and activated her skill but to her surprise although her hand passed through the energy zone the energy from her skill didn’t, it didn’t even touch Jade’s energy before it dispersed in every direction like it was trying to avoid Jade’s energy.
Mira asked “Are you using the energy control spell?” Jade answered “I haven’t read that yet, I just condensed my energy on the surface of my energy zone, it has the effect of repelling foreign energy. Mira said “Wow, I didn’t know that!” Jade said “It’s only noticeable because of the difference between the energy densities of your energy and mine. If your energy was dense enough it wouldn’t have a noticeable effect”
Mira said “I get why you would mention this but what relevance does it have to me?” Jade chuckled and said “You’ll find out soon enough. Ok now make some distance I want to try this spell”
Mira jumped back a few meters away and took a stance while condensing energy at her palms and feet. Jade’s energy zone swiftly expanded, covered Mira and extended out for about 10 meters. Mira instantly understood why Jade had showed her the energy repulsion. The energy at her arms and feet were receding back into her body simply because she was inside his energy zone maintaining the position of the condensed energy suddenly became a mentally draining task.
Jade didn’t wait for her to be exhausted and swiftly created the construct for the Explosion spell around Mira. When the construct was finished Mira jumped backward and made the air under her feet explode with her skill. Mira dodged the explosion by a hair. Mira felt the energy around her change and she swiftly activated her skill again while in the air, the explosion rocking from her hand pushing her to the side.
After that Mira felt the energy behind her change and she used her skill again… she had yet to land but Jade had use the skill twice, she thought ‘I really need to evolve! The spell that takes Deji a minute to cast just takes him milliseconds to cast and this is just his first time. This is so unfair!’
While Mira was dreading the race she was in Jade was completely dumbfounded as he created another explosion construct underneath Mira only for her to dodge again with another use of her skill. Jade thought ‘Given, I’m not used to using Magic and Mira is more adept with her explody energy skill. Yes, that’s a given. But how does she know where I’m going to make an explosion without being able to sense it with her energy zone?!’.
Because of Jade’s energy zone’s high density Mira’s energy zone was mostly constricted to her body and this was because Jade was holding back on the energy density. So in theory Mira shouldn’t have been able to sense any energy outside her body, a detail Mira failed to realize.

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
