《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 68: Magic

Over the week, after the campaign, the Overcomers felt a weird instinct to do some things with energy. They soon discovered that it was the prize from the extermination.
Funmi was drawn to other people’s energy zones and she felt a constant sensation telling her to put energy in front of her eyes. She put it off but eventually she yielded and when she put the energy in front of her eyes she controlled it instinctively, turning the energy in loops, partially combining it with light, turning it into various 4 dimensional shapes that were impossible to grasp and she could suddenly see energy.
She realized that it was the prize from the extermination and followed the other sensation she had felt. She put her hand inside Mira’s energy zone, which she could see now, and then she felt a sensation to move her energy into Mira’s energy zone.
Mira was looking at her like a mad woman, while they were chatting Funmi had suddenly paused and refused to answer her question, just making weird faces and now drawing close to her.
Funmi extended her hand and released energy from it and touched Mira’s energy with her own, she instinctively turned her energy in weird patterns again, mixing it with Mira’s energy and their energy combined, except the combined energy was under Funmi’s control, she moved the energy about for a bit and saw that it was like her own, she could use her skill with it.
She told Mira about what was happening and they both experimented with her new abilities, she later found out that she could not only manipulate pure energy but also other forms of energy but the ease of manipulation and energy cost changed depending on the type of energy she tried to manipulate.
…
Jola felt a jarring need to circulate his energy through his body; as a result he had been involuntarily circulating his energy only to stop when he noticed he was doing it.
He told Anita about it and she confirmed that it was not only him but she also; she found herself thinking about the brain matter that they had in store, which they couldn’t do anything with but kept it since monster and undead corpses never rotted. She felt the urge to apply energy to it.

She asked the other Overcomers if they had the same feelings and they confirmed that they did. Deji felt like controlling his energy and forming shapes with them. Demola felt like putting his energy into electricity or light sources. Teni felt like bringing her energy out of herself. And Kore felt like circulating his energy.
They all went with their instincts and found that they were the prizes from the campaign.
Jola’s energy circulation greatly improved his strength and agility, way more than normal energy circulation did it was reminiscent what the Paragons and Prodigies could do but they didn’t know the details when they fought the Nemesis race.
The Paragon’s and Prodigies had lower physical stats than them it was only with the help of their Magic enhancement that they could measure up.
Anita could turn brain matter into energy crystals by applying her energy on it in weird patterns. The crystals were the same as the energy crystals in the heads of the Magicians.
Demola could turn electricity and light into pure energy by forming his energy into weird patterns and putting his energy into sources of electricity or light. The Nemesis race had never shown this capability so it was a wonder why he had it
Teni could turn her energy into electricity or light by forming patterns with them which was similar to the spells that the Magicians and Geniuses were know for.
The worst of the group were Deji and Kore who could do nothing even after following their instinct.
Deji was inspired to form 12 distinct patterns, although the patterns had no effect on the world at all.
Kore circulated his energy but he didn’t feel different, unlike Jola.
The two of them didn’t know how essential the feeling they had were for the future of the sanctuary.
They decided that since the energy formations of the two did nothing it would be up to experimentation to find out what their prizes did.
The other Overcomers yielded to the new instinct and this was the result.
Osaz could create explosions similar to what the Geniuses could do; she could make explosions within her energy zone. She also could also freeze the explosions and detonate them on command even if the frozen explosions were outside of her energy zone.

The frozen explosions were made of energy so while they were invisible to others and could only be sensed when the explosions were in their energy zones she could see them clearly. The ability was similar to the Endpoints self detonate ability except it had more finesse.
Mistura could create a red type of energy that when she applied to material, improved the energy conduction of such materials permanently.
Samad could create a black type of energy that hardened materials and improved their resistance to all forms of energy permanently.
It was assumed that the exoskeletons of the Nemesis race got the same treatment from Mistura’s and Samad’s Magic.
The abilities could also be used on materials with cells, the problem was that the cells of living creatures resisted the effects of the ability and when they could resist no more they die as not every part of the cells were meant to conduct energy at the rate which Mistura’s spells caused them to.
Mistura, Anita and Samad’s spells cost the most energy as they had permanent effects.
The Overcomers shared the information about what their abilities did with each other.
Jola announced the Magic discoveries of his group and sent a message to the other Overcomers telling them that if they were up for it, he would love to buy a chance to fully learn their Magic when he was able to.
The patterns of energy that resulted in their abilities were still beyond them but Jola knew it wouldn’t be long before they cracked it.
Funmi thought about the proposal for a while and decided on what she would do. She asked Adura to call a meeting and Pentagon met at one of the SSC’s private rooms. The atmosphere of the meeting was solemn; they were already expecting what was to come.
Funmi said “I’ve given it thought and I’ve decided that I want to create my own company; I will be leaving the team” The faces of the members were down as the reality hit them. Funmi continued “I’ve decided to sell the knowledge of one of my spells, the one that allows me to see energy, to Jola. I feel learning it would be a great help to the sanctuary, I wish I understood how I do it but I don’t, if not I would have thought you guys before I left...”
Seeing the team’s sad atmosphere Funmi said “I don’t know what my company will do but I know it will sell better clothes to the public. The rags that Jola makes will surely go out of fashion” but her attempt to cheer them up failed.
She looked at Mira who was holding back tears, her eyes got teary, she started crying and said “Thank you all for what you’ve done for me. I’ll really miss working with you guys” in between her sobs.
Adura patted her back, smiled and said “Congratulations, I never thought you would reach Rank 5 before us. But here you are. You’ve come far from the pampered brat you were when we met you. You’ve become a real woman, your parents would be so proud”
Tears fell from her eyes uncontrollably as she sobbed a “Thank you”. The meeting was a tear jerker for the group members, even Theo, who always acted like machines were his role models, teared up. Pentagon that had 6 members returned to 5.
The group followed her to her apartment and helped her move her stuff, she was relocating. They said their goodbyes to her as she headed to her new home.

Jingyi Bo is in Fates Parallel (An Irreverent Fanfiction)
Fates Parallel is a gripping cultivation story, following the adventures of a half-spirit girl with nothing as she grows both as a cultivator and as a person after arriving at the Grand Academy of Spiritual, Martial and Arcane Arts. It features fleshed-out, believable characters, wonderful world-building that informs the course of the plot, and girls who hold hands. Fates Parallel is a very good story, and you should read it! Jingyi Bo is in Fates Parallel is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek look at this same world from a different angle, following a totally regular girl who brings bad luck with her wherever she goes. It features shallow, joke-name characters, a focus on the least interesting parts of a fantastic world, and girls who hold hands (potentially). Jingyi Bo is in Fates Parallel is an amazingly hilarious (so says me) fanfiction and you should read it! (This is a Totally Author Approved Spin-Off (Fanfiction) for Fates Parallel, which you can find in a number of places including here on RoyalRoad! Please do read it!)
