《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 8: Assassination Classroom 2

Gbenga hurriedly climbed the steps along with the members of the class, the explosion had happened at 11:58pm. They traced the source of the explosion to the room they had slept in the whole place was a mess; the glass window completely shattered and the places close to it were burning.
“The fire extinguisher!” Gbenga shouted reminding the students of the things they left behind. Maduro said “I’ll get it” as he swiftly descended the stairs. Gbenga went deep in thought while staring at the fire ‘He planted a bomb in our room? What if we were still sleeping here? And how did we not notice it?!’
He looked at the faces of his classmates, ‘they’re probably thinking the same thing as me, we can’t keep relying on this guy, he doesn’t mind killing us’ Gbenga concluded. After a minute Maduro was back, with all the things they left behind. The fire was quickly extinguished giving the class the opportunity to assess their surroundings.
The noise had attracted many zombies as they all gathered around the building, as if they wanted to start a protest, looking up at them. Gbenga’s phone vibrated, he checked and saw there was a message it read “I advise you to protect the stairs, the undead can only get to you through it, the stairs aren’t too wide so I suggest 6 people to hold the stairs in shifts of 3, when the first 3 run out of ammo the second 3 takes their place while they reload, and on and on. I’ll give more updates as the situation changes”.
Gbenga was shocked when he read the text ‘We’re bait, we should have left when we could… No, we couldn’t, we were too weak, our lives were in his hands the moment he met us’ Gbenga thought regretfully.
Gbenga read everyone the text, the contents making everyone afraid after realizing their situation, they still proceeded to do as they were told; they had to protect themselves.
6 students were to be selected to guard the stairs, most of the students were hesitant, the number of undead drowning their courage “I don’t want to go, I’ve never shot anything before” Adenile, who was known to play a lot of shooting games said as most eyes turned to him.

Gbenga, seeing their hesitation, volunteered, “I’ll go then” his classmates looked at him in surprise “I don’t care if anyone follows me, I don’t know if you’ve all noticed but the world has gone to shit!…” the classmates looked at him in as if he was a mad man, volunteering for something they had to be coerced to do, even though no one could make him go, as the terrorist was sending messages through him.
Over the week of the attacks the world had lost hope. When it started the government told everyone to continue with their lives but over the week more monsters appeared.
Since the monsters only attacked in highly protected places like military headquarters, people weren’t too afraid of the monsters coming to them. But two days ago the monsters started attacking and appearing around police stations and banks.
They were in school when they heard the people running away from a monster. They hid throughout the time period until today, only moving about when they needed food; they had never even fought the undead, which were weaker, throughout the apocalypse.
Gbenga continued “yeah I cursed” he said misunderstanding the reason for their surprise “If we don’t learn how to protect ourselves now, what was the point of following the terrorist up until now? What was the point of getting these guns if we can’t shoot them? I already feel terrible for having to depend on a criminal who killed many innocent people and probably won’t hesitate to kill us, but here we are, with loaded guns, waiting to die…”
He dropped his phone on the table “… whoever wants to be his secretary can take the phone, I’m taking my life into my own hands” and he left the room filled with people with sad expressions…
One by one the people in the room reduced as some followed him until the people in the room numbered 15.
Bisola, the teacher stood in a corner feeling both sadness and confusion. Ever since the terrorist’s bullet grazed her, she was too scared to take the lead as the adult among the kids. She even wondered why she had to take the lead, she didn’t owe these kids anything so why did she almost die trying to protect them.

Now a student in the class had taken the lead, which made her feel like he was doing what she was supposed to do in her complacence. These two feelings conflicted in her as she struggled to decide how to move on.
The phone rang. A student close to the phone picked it up, listened for a while and put it on speaker “Ok, I hope you’re set because the bad boys are coming in; the undead without grey spots are on their way here, my guess is they’ll probably lead the dumb ones, judging from how the others are making a path for them. I locked the entrance to the building, but that won’t do much.
The remaining 15 of you should drop the bombs I prepared on the undead around the building, there is an instruction manual for how to use it in the bag… do help me tell Gbenga I heard his speech and I loved it, it brought a tear to my eye”
…
The healed zombies (Undead without a grey spot) had reached the entrance of the building, they tried to open the doors but couldn’t, on noticing that the door was locked a huge zombie, 7 foot 2 inches in height with bulging muscles, at the back of the group came forward. It slammed into the door with its shoulder, breaking the whole thing. When the door was broken it proceeded into the building with its fellows.
Jade watched, wiping a tear in his eye, through the building’s cameras as the undead swarmed the stair case and thought ‘Whatever planned this apocalypse made a mistake. Electricity is humanities greatest tool, without it our best weapons wouldn’t work; the monsters should have attacked the power stations before attacking the military bases’
In his hand he held the phone of Joyce; on it was the name ‘Gbenga Class’ on her contact list, he took it because it had the best processor among the phones of the class members.
On the phone he had downloaded an app he developed with a friend before he was caught, the app could take control of various devices if it had access to their control unit. He would usually have to hack for hours to get control but now with no one to stop him from getting access to the central processing unit it was a breeze.
He was lying prone on the roof of a slightly shorter building adjacent to the skyscraper the class was in; his sniper had been set up. The undead ran past their fully healed allies towards the stairs while the fully healed undead took the two elevators.
The moment the elevator doors closed, Jade switched off the lights on the stair well causing the undead to stamped, regardless, they pushed through their comrades, violently to get ahead and obey the command of their superiors, many of them died but they were just a drop in their ocean, they weren’t missed.
Jade looked at the floor the fully healed zombies had selected; they had chosen to go to the top floor, he thought ‘They’re as smart as people, but I wonder how do they still remember how to read? Or what an elevator is, shouldn’t those memories be gone when they were dead?’…
The elevators reached the floor just before the top floor before it stopped and started dropping, the fully healed undead close to the control panel in one elevator pressed as many buttons as he could but to no avail, the huge undead in the other elevator started punching at the door, which didn’t do much as his feet were off the ground and he couldn’t exert the proper amount of force due to his lack of an anchor.
The fully healed undead hit the ground with a spat along with the elevator, and then the plastics explosives Jade got from the police prison and had placed under the elevators were triggered and the elevators blew up, putting a nail in the coffin of the fully healed undead.
The students started dropping bombs and the assault on the horde began in full force.
