《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 6: Making ‘friends’

5:34pm Jade spotted a super market along the way, feeling a growing hunger he headed inside as quietly as he could. Like the other places he had been to there were blood stains but no corpses, although the lights were still on.
He proceeded to the accessory isle and took some gym bags and a back pack, he then went to the food isle where he saw about 20 teenagers and an adult woman eating with worried expressions, they hadn't noticed him yet. He thought to himself ‘Yeah these guys will totally recognize me if I show up’
He stealthy left the super market and entered again, he went to the food isle carrying a traveling bag, the sniper box and the two gym bags he took from the super market, while holding a silenced pistol.
The students turned, looking at him. Their expression changed from mild surprise to fright upon recognizing him. "Yo!" he said "what's with your faces did you just see an undead or something" he said casually, they remained silent for a moment before they all turned pale with fear, "Oh my God it's the terrorist!".
"Now that we've exchanged pleasantries I would like to strike a deal, I have guns, you have nothing, I can give you the guns on the condition that you help me with a problem of mine" Jade's proposal gave the students more confusion as they expected to be threatened "the problem I have is that I want to go west, sadly that's where the undead are headed, I don't have a plan on how to avoid them but two heads are better than one don't you think?"
Jade concluded his proposal "so who's up" he said as he opened the traveling bag, revealing the weapons inside. The eyes of the students were filled with suspicion upon seeing the load of weapons in the bag, one of them frowned "Just gun powder weapons?" he said after assessing what was available, Jade responded "yes, there was only one new gen weapon in the prison".

The students took the guns and when they had taken everything, some taking two, Jade zipped up the bag and got up to see the teacher and her students pointing their guns at him. “Don’t move” the teacher said as she held the gun with a shaky hand, the students hands were also shaky as they all pointed their guns at his head.
Jade laughed as he spun the pistol in his hand “You know what? I don’t think you’ll shoot, in fact if you don’t shoot soon… I will kill one of you” Jade said scornfully as he slowly lifted his gun to point to one of their heads, the students face, alight with fear and rage as their shaking intensified as the reality hit them that they were in a life or death situation with a terrorist.
Bisola, the teacher built up her courage, shouted “AHHHHH!” and pulled the trigger and … The trigger didn’t budge, even when she tried again, she then realized “The safety! Turn off the safety!” and shouted her discovery, the students hurriedly checked the guns to find the safety switch which they flipped.
Jade’s gun barrel was already reaching the height of their neck when they finished the teacher shouted “NOW!” all the students pulled they’re triggers simultaneously…
“CLICK!” a loud click echoed throughout the isle, Jade smiled and swiftly approached a student, the students scattered when they saw him advancing, but he was faster, he caught up with the student placed the gun at the back of his head and pulled the trigger.
“Click!” the students turned back to see Jade in a fit of laughter while the student he had just tried to kill fell to his knees, sweating profusely and shivering, his breath ragged as he had just had his whole life flash before his eyes.

Jade raised his gun, loaded it with a clip that was in his pocket, spun it while saying “You have to load the gun with a clip or it won’t kill people for you” he stopped spinning it “when it’s loaded all you have to do is aim” he swiftly pointed the gun at the teachers head, filling her with fear “and shoot” “PEW!”
The bullet grazed the teacher’s ear and burnt some of her hair. Jade faced the barrel up and blew the tip. The teacher crumpled to the floor, the students too afraid to check on her, Jade continued “Let’s give a round of applause to me and my assistant teacher, for such an insightful and practical lesson on how to use a gun” Jade motioned for them to clap and they immediately did as fear had totally consumed them.
After the ordeal, he advised the students to take some bags from the accessory isle and keep some food in them, which they did, as if he commanded them.
Some of them wanted to run but they fellows told them they couldn’t as they just had guns with no bullets, hence running would only put them in more danger than they were already in as they would be losing the safety of the group without gaining anything.
‘It seems teenagers don’t know how to use guns nowadays… well it’s not like all teenagers knew how to in the past, but watching movies at least gives some idea. Movies must be different now then, I haven’t watched movies or series in a while, I wonder what happens at the latest episodes of One piece… Luffy was just about to get the one piece when I stopped’ Jade thought.
Jade finished packing his food and took some tools, like binoculars, rope, glue and other miscellaneous things, as much as he could carry, from the hardware isle, and then he signaled the students that it was time to go.
He found a bus that was still working and asked the teacher to drive the bus, she couldn’t drive but it was a self driving car so the problem was solve by giving it a route, and off they went.

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
