With twenty-three overpowered undead, he felt confident in his chances of staying alive the longest. After all, dying was only a formality. He could always be revived and rejoin the battlefield.
All that counted was staying alive for as long as one could and killing as many beasts as possible during that time.
He looked at the imposing beast tide coming their way with a solemn look.
Their party of three had left the village towards the tide the moment the beast tide was spotted. They planned on meeting the tide as far away from the village as possible. Stopping the beast tide before it reached the village was their mission after all.
As they were hastily flying towards the beast tide, Daylen's voice was heard: "I can't help but think that we are morons."
"Why?" Graxx asked as Daryl turned to look at Daylen with a questioning face.
Daylen then said: "Look around us...We are the only ones that made it this far. The grimoire said that there were others with the same quest as us. We're the only ones that went to meet the beast tide on our own and our chances of success are slim to begin with."
"You' re right. There's nobody else but us who can act so fearlessly in front of such danger. The others are probably still mustering all their courage to come and face this beast tide with us." Daryl said.
Graxx smiled and said: "Hehe...we have the capital to act like this. Both of you have awesome abilities in terms of crowd control and offense. I can mold the terrain and space to make sure that the beasts do not escape...at least, the great majority will be trapped in my domain for us to slaughter without worries."

Daylen then warned them: "You two should leave most of the killing to me. There's no need to exhaust yourselves and die and lose your abilities. I am unkillable with my darkness incarnate ability and I have a nigh unlimited amount of aura with the Art of aura congealing that allows me to draw aura from the surroundings. With my undead, I have meat shields and capable fighters that can fight for as long as I am alive. "
"Relax, we're not that weak. Don't forget that I got the mirror manipulation ability that I got from the Arcane mirror dragon. I can use it to escape any danger. I gave the cloak of invisibility to Graxx so he can use his reality warping ability to the fullest without any mishaps. He can also physically attack without being seen in his demon form." Daryl said.
Daylen could not understand where these two got that self-confidence even if they had useful abilities. What Daylen didn't know was that they had more than a hundred times more pure crystals than him allowing them to operate with an almost unlimited amount of aura.
They slowly approached the dark could that was the beast tide at the horizon.
When they arrived at only ten kilometers away from the tide, Graxx transformed in his demon form under the surprised and terrified eyes of Daylen.
The new Graxx was three meters long and almost looked like a humanoid. He had a pair of horns on his forehead and monstrous teeth. He also had a two-meter-long tail.
Graxx wore the cloak of invisibility and disappeared from their eyes. He flew upwards and stopped after a few minutes. His two hands grasped the empty space as if they were trying to pull an unbelievable amount of weight.
In Graxx immediate area the laws of space started changing. His goal was to trap the entire beast tide inside his domain. It included both terrestrial and aerial areas. With him at the center, a bubble of air then expanded for kilometers until it made contact with the beast tide.
Unknowingly, the beast tide entered the bubble not knowing that they would be trapped inside forever.
Graxx kept expanding the bubble for a few more kilometers until he started showing some fatigue.
"This should be enough." Graxx breathlessly said. He took a pure crystal and absorbed it to regain his strength.
He had just created a separate space. Anything that entered the bubble was trapped inside it. The only way to leave was to kill the conjurer of the separate dimension, Graxx.
The beast tide could not stop. It was like the beast had lost all reason and sought to destroy everything in their way. The tide would not stop even if it knew it was to be trapped. Their uncountable number and speed alone gave the beast tide a momentum that could not be stopped. They were bound to enter the prison that Graxx had just created.
Daylen prepared his trusty hammer and Daryl his sword. Both were using divine weapons.

Minutes later, the beast tide started entering the invisible bubble.
"This also means that we are also trapped inside this dimension as well." Daylen asked Daryl.
"Yes. He made it so that we can only enter and not leave. The way things are going, it can be said that we trapped the entire beast tide. A few beasts will escape the net but that's for the other heroes to worry about. At the end of the day, ninety percent of the beasts will be killed by us." Daryl said as he was about to go meet the beast tide. Tendrils of lightning were coming in and out of his body.
"Wait." Daylen said as twenty familiar faces appeared around them. They were the undead Daylen had created by having Daryl die twenty times. He added: "Take them with you. Since you cooperated with me to create these undead, I can release my hold over them and let them access their memories. They were not forcefully made so their allegiance is without question. They will not betray us."
"Are you sure? You'll only have three undead left." Daryl was excited to have a small army to command but did not show it.
"There no need to worry about me. Besides, it's going to be easy to control three of them instead of twenty-three...and they are basically your clones so you can understand yourselves and fight effectively..." Daylen said.
"Alright." Daryl said before he left with his twenty clones in tow.
Truthfully, Daylen wanted to turn the entire beast tide in undead. Controlling twenty-three undead would just burden him if he had to create even more undead at the same time.
"Well, I only need to awaken them and then store them. In the future when I am stronger, I will have another trump card to use against stronger foes. I may have abilities that make me immortal but there is no telling if there is someone out there with abilities that can negate mine." Daylen said.
Before long, a lighting shower had appeared in the skies of the dimension.
Daryl had secretly distributed pure crystals to his clones so that they could fight without worrying about their aura being depleted. He even gave them normal divine weapons. It was something that the current Daylen could not do.
After recuperating, Graxx had joined the fight as well. Inside the separate dimension that he had created, he was a god. He could escape any fatal strike by warping the space around him easily as the entire space belonged to him. He could create mazes and multiple other minor dimensions so the beasts became lost and turned in circles until came their untimely death.
Frost village.
Hundreds of heroes were waiting not far from the village for the beast tide to arrive.
They had no idea that they were in for quite a surprise.
They had not been valiant or maybe stupid enough to head to meet to the beast tide.
Each death had a price for dreamlanders and dreamwalkers. It was their abilities.
It was recommended to have a good number of useless abilities should one die so that they could keep their most important abilities.
Just like Graxx and Daryl, they had also prepared many useless abilities as they knew that they would die frequently and the beast tide was more dangerous than a normal duel or hunt.
To increase their chances of dying less, they had opted to remain closer to the other adventurers and heroes that had come to protect the village. They needed the numbers to reduce the pressure on them when fighting.
"Something is wrong. The beast tide should be here by now." A man with claymore on his back said to his friends.
"Could it be that the beast tide avoided the village and left for another place?" A woman wearing an armor said.
They all fell silent for a while.
A youth with blood red eyes then said: "I am going to see what happened. Who wants to come with me?"
The man with a claymore on his back then said to the youth: "Rudy. Stop spouting nonsense. You can't outrun the beast tide on your own and you want us to come with you? If the beast tide catches us, we'll die for sure and we would've lost an ability for nothing. Remember that abilities are not cheap."
Abilities came from beast cores and could be bought or acquired by slaying a beast. Since beasts were stronger than the humans at the same level, humans had to form groups to hunt for beasts which made the value of each ability skyrocket useless or powerful.
Rudy then said: "I know that ...but what are we doing here if there's no beast tide? We need to complete this quest to enter the raid that we do not even have a chance at completing. Look around us...we all want to complete the demon god raid and we are afraid of a few beasts. We should be the most powerful in the dreamscape yet we cower in front of a simple quest...You can all stay here, I'm going to see where the beast tide went."
Rudy was ready to leave when the armored woman said: "Wait. Let's ask the grimoire."
She summoned her grimoire and said: " Where's the beast tide? it should be here by now."
Three dreamwalkers stopped the beast tide 77 kilometers east of the village.
"What? Only three?" The woman was shocked.
"What did it say?" Rudy asked.
"It says that three dreamwalkers stopped the beast tide 77 kilometers east of the village." the armored woman said.
"That's a lie. There's no way that it's possible. Just three?" The man with the claymore said.
Rudy then grinned, his eyes looking even redder than before: "Feel free to stay here. I'm going to see what's up."

A King in the Clouds
Tanlar. A cruel, repulsive, and foul word. It meant untitled, officially, but it also meant ungifted, unable, unworthy, unnecessary, unhuman. It was more a curse than a term, a badge only the damned and condemned wore. To be a tanlar was to know your life, your entire being, was insignificant. Once Kaizer had resigned himself to such a fate, but those times had passed. He may have been untitled, but he was anything but untalented. He refused to scrape by at the bottom of society. Those who stood above him could sneer all they liked, but he wouldn’t suffer being stepped on for long. He’d be better, much better. But of course he would be. ‘Fate’ demanded it so. [Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] What To Expect: The story of a boy becoming a man becoming a king + everything that entails. Largely gamelit, but later arcs could be called litrpg. Also schemes. A lot of schemes. I do love some good ol' fantasy politics and intrigue. Minimum Word Count a Week: TBA after Writathon Release Time(s): Daily for as long as I can/until the end of the Writathon. I also write The Deathseeker [Returning Dec 5th]
