《Undying Soul》Part 06 : Daylen Bright---Chapter 06

Jax held His sword as he descended with the cyclone.

"There is a high chance that he will use the darkness incarnate ability. If he does, this fight will end in a deadlock...that is if he can pull it off." Thought Jax.

Five seconds before impact.

Daylen used his fastest speed to fly and meet the cyclone head on.

He did not have anything in mind when it came to winning this fight. He just flew to meet his enemy without thinking much.

You can negate the cyclone and end the fight. It will be a stalemate though...

Four seconds before impact.

"You mean transfer my darkness incarnate ability to Jax's sword?" asked Daylen.

Exactly. The divine sword is the conjurer of the cyclone. If it loses its physical form, the cyclone will just dissipate.

Three seconds before impact.

"I was thinking the same thing, but I have no idea how to accomplish such a thing. I might just end up dead." Daylen said.

You are the master of darkness and shadows. Do not think too much...

Two seconds before impact.

"Not think too much huh..."

One second before impact.

The surrounding had almost become distorted as Daylen adopted his darkness incarnate unkillable form.

Impact.

He effortlessly went through the turbulent winds and touched the tip of the sword.

His first attempt at transferring his ability just by thinking about it ended in success.

From the tip of the sword to the hilt, the sword became ethereal.

Without a medium to drive it, the cyclone slowly disappeared.

Daylen then let the shadows he had imbued in the hammer imprison Jax as he hit him with it.

It was too fast for even Jax to think of a countermeasure, but he knew it was too late to do anything.

"He might be a shade walker from the Whiteshadow family with how easy it is for him to control shadows." Thought Jax as a hammer gave hit his head. He fainted only to wake up in a forest near the city. He had died.

"I wish I could kill him a few more times. He is much stronger than his sister." Thought Daylen as he stored his new undead in the grimoire.

"I will just call this undead Cleaver." Said Daylen.

He descended in the coliseum alone to a cheering crowd.

He returned to his shop shortly after and went back to forge weapons.

"I wonder how long it will take before we set out to the Mirror Everglades." Daylen thought.

Three days later, someone came to find him with a message that said : "Firehill forest. Tommorrow at noon. Jax and Lin."

"Finally." Said Daylen.

The next day, Daylen arrived early to spar with his with his three undead.

As they were undead made from divine bodies, they could keep their previous appearance and memories but lost their free will and since they were made from the same body and soul, they kept their bloodline ability.

In this case, the two sisters and brother both kept the bloodline ability that let them control the wind.

He had crafted masks for them to conceal their identities. He had also instructed them to wear cloaks to further hide their looks.

In Daylen's mind, he had enough manpower to attempt the hunt of the of Arcane Mirror dragon on his own, but still lacked a better control over his undead. He still needed time to syncronize with them and their abilities.

Sparring with them was his best way of trying to control them by sending normal commands through the soul connection they shared.

With time, you will learn to speak through them. It will also be possible to move them as if you were moving yourself. Of course, moving one is one thing, moving an army is another...

"I know. I can feel it. It's just that I need more time to get used to this soul link." Daylen said.

The soul link, was just a portion of the soul of the undead that allowed him to control them. Before the soul dissipated and was copied elsewhere by Anlow, Daylen could harvest it and cut away a small part of it to store in his own soul. The other part of the soul returned into the corpse as he completed the ritual for undead creation.

They are here.

Daylen immediately stored his three undead in the grimoire.

Soon, two silhouettes came flying towards him.

"I did not expect you to arrive before us, Daylen." Jax said.

"And here I was worried that you'd be too ashamed to even come here after I killed you." Daylen said.

"Humph...We are here only because he needs the Arcane fire ability of the dragon for the ascendant dreamscape." Lin said.

"I should ask for my four pure crystal back since you also need my help to kill the Arcane mirror dragon." Daylen shamelessly said.

"It's too late for that. You asked for our help and we came." Lin said as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Alright. We should leave as soon as possible. The Mirror Everglades are five days of flight away." Jax said.

They left for the mirror Everglades.

They arrived at their destination without any disturbance.

Jax then said : "Rumor has it that the Arcane mirror dragon lives in the place where the Mirror Wyverns patrol the most."

Their grimoires then showed.

Mirror Wyvern

Race : Dragon

Level : 12/100

Abilities :

Fire Breath(Radius : 50 meters):

-Burns all.

Drops:

-fire core: Gain the ability to breathe fire.

Rewards :

-5 000 000 aura crystals

-Available titles: -Dragon hunter: Gives you the A rank in the hunter's guild.

Last known location: Mirror Everglades.

"I must kill two hundred of them to get a pure crystal? This is too easy." Daylen said.

"You think? Do you even know how hard it is to kill one? What if they surround us?" Lin said.

"What's your plan?" Jax ignored his sister and asked Daylen.

"We kill all as many wyverns as possible to lure the Arcane dragon out of its hiding spot. If it doesn't show itself, we will just keep killing until we find it. Besides, I need more pure crystals. There is no better place to farm them than here." Daylen said. He continued : " We will first go our way and do some reconnaissance and kill a few wyverns if possible. If it becomes dangerous, just retreat. If you find the dragon, send the your location through the grimoire. We will come back here in three hours to report our findings."

The siblings left together heading east as Daylen headed west.

Under them were the Mirror Everglades. A dense forest made entirely of mirrors from the weird looking trees to the small hills.

"What a peculiar place for dragons to live in?" Daylen thought. He had yet to see a single wyvern in the sky.

Daylen went inside the forest. Just before he landed he released Cleaver, the former Jax.

He had only released one because the less he had to control, the more control he had.

Cleaver still had the divine sword Jax had died with. Daylen had him take the vanguard.

They soon came across a nest of wyverns.

TheMirror wyverns were completely made of glass. Their internal organs and fire core could be seen with the human eye through its glass like body.

It did not take long for a fight to break out. Surounded by at least a dozen of mirror wyverns, Daylen and Cleaver fought like madmen. It was one man fighting while controling an undead to cover for him.

Daylen was impervious to the fire of the mirror wyverns. All he had to do was use his darkness incarnate ability.

Cleaver on the other hand, other than having him send simple wind blades, Daylen did not know how to use him properly which put his undead in harm's way.

Let go of your soul link and order it to access its memories and fight based on instinct...

"That would be giving Cleaver a sliver of his free will. What if he rebels?" Daylen asked, happy that the grimoire was once again giving him free advice.

It won't happen since you can terminate it with the soul link. It will just be one less undead you have to worry about.

Most undead will just acknowledge you as their master while others will want to be free of your soul link which is possible if they kill you before you terminate them.

Daylen releassed the other two Thorns from his grimoire and ordered the three undead to access their memories and fight. The luster in their eyes brightned even more.

Everything went smoothly form the moment he had his undead use their full power to fight.

There was still wariness in Daylen's heart. He was ready to kill them all the moment they thought of backstabbing him when he least expected it.

He could now also access their memories and simple thoughts. He understood that it was only a matter of time before the undead started getting smarter.

They scoured the Mirror everglades but only found wyverns everywhere.

They had killed so many of them that Daylen hoped that the Arcane Mirror Dragon would notice. The Dragon never showed itself.

The fire cores that dropped from each wyvern allowed for one to gain the ability to breathe fire. Daylen harvetsted as many cores as he could.

The rewards for killing the wyverns were also plentiful.

Per two hundred wyverns killed valued at 5 000 000 aura crystals each, you could get one pure crystal.

So far Daylen had gained 14 pure crystals by killing thousands of wyverns. He had also managed to rid himself of the debt of 3 pure cystals he owed the grimoire.

"The undead are starting to learn about their former lives through their memories. The longer they stay connected to their memories the more danger I'm in." Daylen thought.

He was closely monitoring them through their soul link.

Wyverns respawned and reattacked without end. The fight continued.

He received a message from Jax through the grimoire:

"I think the dragon bailed on us." Jax "You mean to tell me that we came here for nothing? Where can it possibly be?...wait How do you know this?" Daylen asked "We found the lair. It's empty. There are also traces that indicates that a fight happened here not long ago." "Alright. Send me the coordinates." Daylen said.

As he received the coordinates, he stored his undead in the grimoire and flew towards the Dragon's lair.

The worst thing that could happen now was that somebody else might be claiming his prize.

The lair being empty meant that the Arcane Mirror Dragon had yet to revive if it had been killed or return to its lair from a fight.

"Show the dragon's stats." Daylen asked his grimoire to confirm that the dragon still had all of its bloodline abilities.

"Everything is still there which rules out its death." Daylen thought as he arrived at the lair.

"We think it is still fighting somebody around not far from here." Jax said.

"How many are there?" Daylen asked.

Lin said: "Just one. From the marks on the ground, I see that only one ability was used. A lightning based ability."

"Can you track them?" an impatient Daylen asked.

"Yes. They went north." Lin nodded and said.

They headed north in pursuit.

Above the clouds, a dragon was painfully gasping for breath.

Several hundred meters away, a youth clad in lightning was dangerously closing in.

The dragon was thinking: "Damn it. This kid only has one ability, yet he put me in such a state." Anger was coroding the mind of the almost invisible dragon. The dragon continued: "He is after one of my abilities and he is the first to almost succeed...sigh...If we were in the real world all I would have to do would be to sign a contract and share my ability but that madman Anlow made it impossible in the dreamscape."

The youth suddenly came to a stop several dozens of meters away and borrowed his momentum to send a projectile. It was a lightning bolt blue in color.

The dragon activated its domain of fifty meters around it and ignited the aura around it into scarlet flames. It created a fiery domain around it.

The Arcane Mirror dragon then used its hands to call on the fire present behind it and beside it to bolster the fire in the front in the hopes of slowing down the blue lightning bolt.

"Useless." The youth clad in lightning said as he appeared in another place faster than before and threw another lightning bolt towards the unprotected left side of the dragon.

Like lightning, the youth appeared close to the right side and threw another lightning bolt.

With another lightning bolt in hand, he then appeared behind the dragon saying: "You've been fighting me for two days now. I am sure that you understand that this fight must end somehow."

As four lightning bolts headed for it from all directions, the dragon had an unsightly look. It thought: "I have no way to evade this attack. He has so may pure crystals to replenish himself and I'm almost out of mine. He doesn't even give me time to cunjure a single mirror and enter the mirror dimension. If I can enter the mirror dimesion, I will be safe even if he destroys the mirror. All the mirrors I hid accross the continent will be put to good use. I will reapear anywhere on the continent. All I need is a single second to conjure a mirror. Just one."

The hopeful dragon roared and then a scarlet flame washed over it going in all directions.

The lightning bolts were slowed down as the youth retreated thinking : "It's trying to flee again. If it enters the mirror dimension, I will have lost it for good." The youth then grasped on many pure crystals and said : "Lightning domain." The pure crystals lost their luster and then dissipated in motes of light.

Lightning was then given life and roamed free for hundreds of meters. It was like an endless lightning shower.

"If it creates a mirror it will be instantly destroyed by my lightning domain." Said the youth as he fearlessly trod in the lightning and fire a sword made of lightning in hand.

***

As Daylen saw the lightning and fire clash from a distance, he cursed in his mind a thousand times.

"You stay here, I'm going in." Said Daylen as he took his darkness incarnate form and headed inside the lightning shower.

He could not sustain the darkness incarnate for long as it burned too much aura. He planned to use his pure crystals to replenish himself if needed. The priority was to kill the dragon before the other or establish some kind of trade for the Aura congealing ability.

He arrived just when the youth was about to claim the life of the Arcane mirror dragon.

"Stop." A helpless Daylen screamed out as he arrived a dozen meters away.

The youth hesitated for a second which was just enough for the dragon to conjure a mirror behind its falling back.

Both Daylen and the youth could see what the dragon was trying to do and reacted at the same time.

The youth let his sword continue impaling the dragon's heart while Daylen turned the Dragon's head into darkness incarnate. The act of turning only the head into darkness incarnate made it so the dragon was thouroughly decapitated as the rest of the body had lost connection with the head. A headless body then entered the mirror dimesion.

They both killed the dragon at the same time.

Both their grimoires then said :

Congratulations. You've killed the Arcane mirror dragon.

Available drops:

-Arcane fire core : Gain the ability to ignite the aura around you.

-Aura congealing core : Gain the ability to congeal the aura around you

-Mirror core : Gain the mirror manipulation ability.

-Dragon's bane: Gives you the B rank in the Ascendant dreamscape hunter's guild. (After joining the Ascendant dreamscape.)

Both parties must share the drops and rewards. Divide them amongst yourselves equally.

They both looked at each other.

The youth was trembling from anger and restrained himself from attacking Daylen after seeing how he effortlessly killed the dragon. He was too tired to fight someone who could not be hurt by his lightning as the other had an ability that allowed him to become as formless as darkness.

"Two days of fighting...you just ruined my two days of hard work...Why?" The youth was almost brought to tears. It was a huge blow to him.

Daylen looked at the teenager before him and said : "Listen. You can take everything else except the aura congealing ability that I need. What do you need from the drops?"

"The cloak of invisibility and the mirror manipulation ability." The youth said.

"And the rewards?" Daylen asked.

"The dragon's bane title and the custom-made divine weapon." The youth said.

"No objections." Daylen said before he asked : "Why not the pure crystals, I am curious?"

"I have more than enough." The youth blankly said as his grimoire gave him a custom made sword that radiated with the same aura of lightning as him.

"Someone who refused aura crystals? How much do you need to possess before they are actually too much to handle?" Wondered Daylen said as he grasped the aura congealing core which disappeared into his body.

Suddenly, he felt a connection with the aura present in the area around him.

"I feel like I am one with the aura in the surroundings." Daylen thought.
