《Undying Soul》Part 02 : Vampire spirit---Chapter 04 of 06

Shadowthorn Continent.
Violetmill City.
On a balcony, A young enchanting woman had just left her seat. The ashtray was still hot as the wind took away the little smoke that came out of it.
As she gracefully walked back inside her room, a knock was heard on the door.
It looked like she knew someone was about to knock as she opened the door almost at the same time the knock was heard. A lightly dressed woman entered the room.
“What are you doing here? Are you not supposed to be working?” She asked.
The lightly dressed woman said: “I am just too bored. The nobles seem to be coming less these days. The portrait of your boyfriend was seen by a few of our clients and some of your employees. They all immediately recognized him. No one wants to come around here. We are afraid for you, you know. What if the nobles put a bounty on the Silent owl’s girlfriend? Lora…hey... Are you even listening to me?”
Lora was back on the balcony as she watched the people on the street.
She sighed.
“Father is taking this a bit too seriously. I can already see some of the assassins he sent to protect me.” Lora thought.
“Nilus…where did you disappear to. You promised me you’d be back in a year. There are still two months left…I am scared…I do not know what you did…But KIng Alek himself had been lurking around all this time and I am out of excuses…What did you do for the first king to leave his palace and come in this city to personally look for you?…”
Darkcloud Continent.
In a dimly lit room, fifty human corpses were stacked together.
Nilus looked depressed as he looked at them.
He had raided a small settlement of vampires with Cale, Fangs and Graxx.
From Fangs' intelligence, this settlement openly abducted humans and completely emptied them of their aura and souls.
They fed in the purest way possible.
Other vampire settlements kept humans around and slowly fed on them or harvested their aura for later. For many vampires that's the smartest way of doing things.
“We should just kill all of the vampires for good. We can’t let this continue.” Cale was burning with anger.
Graxx could not let the fire die out as he poured more oil on it and said to Cale: “ I’d like to see you barge on your own into the six vampire prime clan and put them all out of their misery with that pitiful strength of yours.”
Cale’s stats
Soul(aura): 11
Body: 10
Weapon: 7
Cale had been slowly upgrading his strength with the help of Fangs.
Fangs had taken out all the aura crystals he had saved and gave them all to Cale. For him, it was useless to keep his savings around as his guilds were made to be self-sufficient as well a being there to help him advance his weapons and soul to the divine level. His soul had advanced but all his five weapons were still stuck at the 11th stage.
His savings could not allow him to bring his weapons to the divine level but could allow Cale to at least reach the Asura level easily.
Cale looked at the black cat and said: “I will tell Fangs that you’ve been talking to his family in the other world behind his back. I cannot wait to see how many punches you will take before you start telling the truth.”

“You…I did no such thing…” Graxx was almost brought to tears as he imagined the scene.
“What did you do again, Graxx?” Fangs had arrived.
“Nothing…Nothing.” Graxx was looking at Cale pleadingly.
“Enough.” Nilus said aloud. ”Fangs. Where is the nearest vampire prime clan?” asked Nilus.
“That would be the Valerius wind clan. We do not have the fire power for now. Why the hurry?” Fangs inquired.
Fangs’ stats
Soul(aura) : 12
Body: 12
Weapon: Boots: 11/11
Armguard : 11
Moon daggers : 12/12
They had been searching for the weakest vampire clans for Nilus to level up.
To avoid turning into another unknown vampire bloodline. He unleashed a barrier of his green aura around to absorb the energy inside the vampire blood before he got in contact with it. He would also let the aura wash over all the vampires in his vicinity. That act would suck away any energy inside a vampire. At the asura level, he could only cover a radius of fifty meters.
With him in the center of his green aura, every vampire around him would just instantly die from losing all their power and lifelessly fall on the ground.
“ I want to pass a message. No more hunting or it is death.” Nilus said.
“You cannot just barge in and tell them to change a crucial part of their life. They will not take it lying down. They will fight to the death.” Fangs warned.
“Good. Just bring me to their front door.” Nilus said.
Nilus’s stats

Vampire blood: Vampire prince—true vampire
As Nilus felt that he was reaching the Divine level, he did not show any of his usual patience.
He really barged into the main city of the Valerius clan.
He left his friends behind him. He did not want them caught in his green aura.
Cale would instantly die if he did not dodge in time just like the many vampires who lifelessly fell in front of him.
Only Divine level individuals could extricate themselves from the green aura’s pull.
Their speed was unrivaled, especially for vampires.
Alarms sounded in the entire city as many figures with blood wings attacked him with a myriad of different blood weapons and a green flash appeared and they died without even having the time to warn their comrades.
He released the green flash almost instantly and retracted it in the same way. Only a green flash could be seen.
A trick he had learned from his spell casting courses.
The faster a spell was cast the faster the enemy died.
His green aura had become stronger and stronger as he leveled up.
He was cleaning up the city on his own while Cale and the others followed his directions by telepathy as he had already found the location of the two True vampires. He wanted Fangs and his team to keep them company while he absorbed every ounce of energy in every vampire that rained down on him.
Eventually, some started fleeing from the green flash.
When he arrived next to Cale who was watching and learning from Fang’s fight, he retracted his aura.
Fangs was using his two moon daggers that were levelled up to the divine level on the Newwolf continent. The shapeshifters had driven away the vampires and had taken control of the continent. They too used humans as food. Amidst the weird rituals and the way they feasted on human flesh, there was no apparent sane person in most of them.

Nilus and his team only took out the vilest and let the rest ponder on their future way of life.
Nilus was sure to come back and finish the work he had started. They were forced to flee as they were hunted down on the whole continent.
Cale was now Fangs’ apprentice. He did not miss all the moves Fangs used.
Fangs could use the stealth ability of his own to hide his presence completely as he fought the true vampire who only saw a human body despite his senses.
The true vampire Alton, could not see or feel Fangs’ soul until he let him, but in that case, he could only turn around only to see nothing but feel a huge gash being opened on his back.
Alton could never tell whether what he felt was right or not, but the pain he felt was real even if he could regenerate almost instantly.
He also noted that this weird opponent of his had a power that allowed him to blend with darkness and strike from every place devoid of light.
It did not take a genius to know that he was being stopped from leaving the city.
As a progenitor, he was connected to all the vampires in his bloodline, but he could not believe that there was a divine stage that could kill almost all the vampires in the city so silently. There had to be a huge display of a power that could level the city a hundred times at the very least. Even then vampires could still survive with their abundant lifeforce stored in their blood.
His brother, Denton, was being held back by a weird blabbermouth of a cat that warped reality and trapped him in impossible mazes as it appeared anywhere and struck him in his blind spots.
As they fought he could see a green flash going around the city. Every time a green flash was seen, he could feel more members of his vampire bloodline falling.
It was done so silently.
He was scared.
His enemies today had succeeded in eradicating a bloodline while being so few. The vampires that fled would never be fast enough to reach the other clans for reinforcement.
He had sent wind blades and created a barrage of wind attacks but his opponent could always see a way out of every attack and was merely toying with him.
Nilus had opened a shared line that they could all use to send thoughts to each other.
Fangs was using it as usual to instruct them both in the ways of fighting.
For Nilus, it was an open way of fighting.
For Cale, it was more of a way to grant swift deaths.
“Nilus you can come closer, I will deliver him to you.” Fangs said.
Nilus advanced and appeared next to Fangs who disappeared and reappeared behind Alton.
Alton turned around and ignored Nilus who wasn’t even a divine stage. He found himself being flung towards a green aura. The same green aura that was responsible for his bloodline’s elimination.
He grew mad as he unleashed all his power. As he turned around, he was surprised to find out that his enemy was the same young man he had ignored. He planned to kill him as fast as possible before the other slippery albino intervened.
The moment he touched the green aura, he found that something was amiss. He did not take any chances and immediately thought of running away. It was what his senses told him to do.
As he took a step out, he was once again flung inside by Fangs’ blow.
It happened again and again until he was nothing but a hollow corpse that lifelessly fell on the ground.
His brother's fate was the same with the minor difference that no one touched him. He just kept running around in a fifty-meter maze that he only saw the end of in death.
Even Nilus was thinking about asking the cat to teach him how to accomplish such a thing. Reality warping was one of the abilities he had from the Marquis but did not know where to start in using it. He had tried pyrokinesis on the Newwolf continent by burning away all his enemies before he collected their souls. It took hundreds of souls to create just one soul crystal. He had plenty of time to master the fire.
He chose not to take their bloodline of the wind ability. In fact, after thinking for a while, he thought that he was better off without any vampire powers if he could just contract different powers with demons. Even using magic was a better choice.
He finally reached the divine level in body and soul as well as reaching the true vampire level.
Soul(aura): 12

Vampire blood: True vampire.
“There is still one month left before I go back home. Lora…no one will stand in my way now…” He thought as he clenched his fists.
His eyes had become green. And his soul core’s energy was brimming with energy.
His body was disappearing out of reality and reappeared as he wished it.
He transformed his hand into an incorporeal state and found that even the molecules present around him could go through him as if he was not there at all.
He also felt that he could call souls to him with just a thought.
“Congratulations on reaching the divine stage so soon. I am just frustrated that these soul suckers had no soul for me to enjoy a few more weapons of the divine stage. Let’s return to the Newwolf continent and finish the job. Cale still has to become a Divine stage as well. We will come for the other vampire clans later.” Fangs said.
“Yeah. You still must pay the Marquis. It is better if you stacked them up for the future.” Graxx said.
“Yeah. You’re right. I wonder if he went easy on me. These powers he gave me should not be worth a little twelve thousand soul crystals per year.” Nilus said.
The appeal of using a branded soul mark that was not his to use amazing abilities that were not his but under his control was like a drug that he could not quit even if he had to kill forever. In his mind, his security was assured and the world will never be devoid of evildoers that will die in his hands.

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
