---------------------Jonah's POV--------------------
It was the usual sunny and hot day, I was walking down the street. The smell of all kinds of street food was lingering in the air and the loud voices of the men and women behind their food carts can be heard on the whole street. Laughing people were waking in groups and I could the smell from sweat and beer from almost every random passerby. You could also see many beggars in the alleyways. In those were many ill looking people living in cartons or sleeping on the ground with trash all over the ground. I tried to ignore them but it was still hard to see them right in front of me. My family wasn't well off either and I was working as hard as I could so my family wouldn't end up in those places too.
While I was walking through the street I looked up and saw the big shiny information board hanging around 10 meters in the air. The people in front of me were wearing plate armor that reflected the sun, so I had to move to the house walls to be able to see the board. The board showed the newest record on dungeon conquering on Earth.
A record of layer 50 was the highest the humanity has every gotten. That was because in your usual 100-layer dungeon, after layer 50 you could only go deeper into the dungeon, so you would have to finish the dungeon to leave it. Humanity still wasn't ready for that yet.
The reason for that was quite simple, their level wasn't high enough. After the system came to earth humanity was able to see blue boxes appearing in front of them. Those blue boxes showed things ranging from your stats to party members. There was even a new internet. The new internet was quite handy overall, and you were able to share dungeon information online, but most of them weren’t really trustworthy.
The information board was now showing the names of the top parties of humanity right now. They were called dungeon conquerors and they were the strongest humanity had to offer. You could read the usual names of Robert Simpson - the blazing mage, Maria Johnson - the bloody berserker and many others. Those were amazing people and they are the new celebrities on earth. Models and singers were still a thing, but who would put a singer before a fireball throwing fire mage? I wouldn't. Not that I had a choice.

After I got my daily fill on my dreams I moved around the crowds of smelly people and hoped for god that the smell wouldn't linger on me. After I got back on the street, away from the information board, I could finally breath some fresh air and I saw the people around me more clearly. They were the "new humans". Well they were basically new races that came from the system for humanity. On my left I saw female Elf with long ears and a learn body with a bow, probably an Archer. Behind her was a 2 m big hairy Beastman with plate armor, long ears and the usual long nails you would expect from a dog-Beastman. While I was searching for other races I was careful not to look too long, otherwise they would think I was making fun of them. That was because, when the first humans changed their race, many people said stuff like "How can you still call yourself human", "Why should I talk to someone who would abandon their humanity in this crisis?", but that only went on for around a month, because the people with a different race were at least above level 25 and fundamentally stronger than humans and without them we wouldn't be able to life a safe life. At level 25 you could change your race to the basic ones or you could wait to unlock a rare or even legendary race.
The only way to unlock those races, would be to full fill some strange requirements. The Dwarf for example, could be unlocked by hammering monster materials into trash-items. If you did that for some time, there will be a new race on your race menu-box.
I was still human though. I was your usual 1.85 m high and quite fit man. My Hair was as black as the night and my dark brown eyes made me look quite dark overall. My name was Jonah Bellwood and I was 19 years old. I was wearing a black cloth shirt and standard blue jeans. I was sadly not a dungeon conqueror. My mother Catherine, my sister Alice and I were living together in a small flat in the outer circle of the city. The outer circle was cheap because the buildings were so close to the outlands.
When the system came to earth, so came the dungeons and monsters. Cities got destroyed, forests burned down and many people lost their loved ones. A week after the chaos started, aliens came to earth and helped to stabilize different cities in the world. My family and I were lucky, because we were near one such city, the new City L, and we were able to survive because of that. Most humans weren't. There were still times where lone people or groups of people came out of the "Outlands" into the city. The outlands were full of monsters and other abominations that your imagination could offer.

The cities were surrounded by high walls made of strong metals, that came from the dungeons, to defend the city. These aliens came to our planet because theirs was destroyed by the monsters, many years after the system came. They didn't have friendly aliens securing cities and giving them jobs and information about the system. It was quite impressive that they even survived so long.
While I was moving through the crowd of people, I got a glimpse of one of them. They once were a race of green frog-like people with 2 arms and 2 legs and they once lived on their own water planet. When the system came, their once peaceful water got infested with abominations and killer-like underwater monsters. They fought back and made many different islands to survive and defend against them, but in the end still lost too many people in the first months and had to escape the planet. They also had different races but their race-changes were different than then ones humanity got.
It went from smaller and faster, to more fingers and more flexible. Their races changed their builds overall. The fighters chose the fighter-suitable changes like, smaller head, more hearts, stronger arms and stuff. Their crafters chose stuff from longer fingers to more precise movements. Some of them looked quite ugly but that was nothing I couldn't cope with in exchange for their help.
You could see them standing with weapons at almost every corner. They were watching humans behave. Humans weren't allowed to use their skills on the streets, they had to use the designated arenas or training halls that were distributed throughout the city walls or go to the outlands.
In exchange for the help humanity had to pay them taxes in form of credits or system-gold. Those credits were used all over the universe and gold was from directly killing monsters. With credits you could buy different weapons like a staff for mages of a sword for warriors etc..
When I got near my destination, I saw more and more people wearing plate armor, leather armor and even cloth armor. Those were conquerors, and their class-equipment. A mage in cloth with a staff in hand, an archer with a bow, a quiver and leather armor, a tank with plate armor an iron helmet on their heads, great swords on their backs, a warrior wearing a mix between plate and leather with a sword or two at his hips.
I put at least a meter more distance between them and me so that I wouldn't get in trouble. My own level was 5 and I was weak. I only got to this level because I killed hundreds of monster birds in my neighborhood. Those birds were weak and harmless and at most level 3, so I killed them with my rusty sword in one hit if I was fast enough.
After being careful not to bump into the conquerors, I made my way to the 5 m high and 3 m wide double door of the guildhall. The building looked like your usual block building from the outside, with many smaller information boards in front of it and people reading them. Those boards showed ads about new dungeon items and their prices, they were wayy too expensive for me but I would still catch myself looking at them and dreaming of a better future. The price went from 1000 credits to 100 000. That was too much for my monthly income of 2000 credits.
Iron plates plastered the whole building from top to bottom and above the door you could read the words "Conqueror Guildhall - L" written in big shiny LED-like lights. I went up to the right door and pushed it open.

RED
Valley City. Up until around twenty years ago, it had been a nowhere place. Just a bunch of towns with no real reputation. Now, though, it's known for its progression in medical science. The Medical Technologies Company. It seemed to suddenly appear out of nowhere in the middle of what's now called City Center. Once just a manufacturer and developer of medical equipment, it eventually started to dabble in medical research. Before anyone even knew it, they were the leading research entities, with five seperate buildings in Valley City alone, all towering above everything else in the area. Some say they even swayed the local government into combining the old towns into one city and popularized prosthetic limbs as fashion themselves, but that's just gossip. Matthew Vega. A 25-year-old college dropout, tricked by MediTech into being experimented on under the pretense of participating in a clinical trial for rent money. After being broken out of their facility nearly a year after having her limbs replaced, then having her liberator captured, she seeks a way to dismantle the company or save the one she cares about. NOTE: Currently I am working on a rewrite. I will post a new chapter once that is ready, listed as V2CH-001. I hope you look forward to it.
