《The World Inside a Dream》Chapter 5

Lucius wondered what the heck he was doing.

First, he somehow mustered up the courage to trip someone that seemed double his size. Now, he was glaring at him as if he could actually do something.

His courage was still holding up, but something else wanted to squeeze its way in: fear.

"Who the hell are you?!" the person on the floor yelled up at Lucius. However, Lucius didn't pay much attention to him. He was more interested in why no one was coming to help.

He looked around to the spectators, including the teachers and staff. It looked like they wanted to intervene, but they didn't. Definitely not the way teachers were supposed to act.

With all the people staring at Lucius, he felt awkward, exposed. He wanted to crawl away and hide where no one could find him, but he didn't.

Well, I already got this far, Lucius thought and sighed a bit. Might as well finish what I'm doing.

"You're going to beat up your girlfriend just because she broke up with you?" Lucius spat, putting on a look of distaste. The guy got to his feet and got real close to Lucius. He could feel his hot breath on the top of his head and malicious gaze pouring out from his eyes. It took everything in his body not to flinch and move away from the mountain standing in front of him.

"You have a problem with that, kid? It's none of yo damn business," he said, shoving Lucius back. He really didn't want to, but he got back to his previous spot.

He really, really wanted to figure out what he was doing.

The girl behind the guy seemed a bit confused, but there was gratitude written all over her face.

What on Earth am I doing??? Lucius mentally yelled. He couldn't keep up this facade for long, but adrenaline started to rush through him.

Suddenly, a massive object was hurled at Lucius. He tried to move back as fast as he could, but it still slammed in his face.

His head snapped back and Lucius was thrown backward. He somehow managed to stay on his feet, but his head was dizzy and there was a persistent ringing from his ears.

With a start, he realized that the object that was thrown at him wasn't an object; it was a fist. The guy threw a punch and Lucius had absolutely no time to do anything.

Yup, I am one stupid idiot for thinking that I could do something against this monster-of-a-man, Lucius groaned and tried to focus. It didn't work, and the ringing in his ears only seemed to be getting louder.

"So how did ya like that, punk?" The guy said and grinned. He seemed to forget about the breakup and focused on Lucius. He wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. "You wanna keep fighting? Or are you too scared, a baby," he mocked.

Well, to heck with it, Lucius thought and shook his body awake.

"Come on, I'm just getting started," Lucius said. If I can kill a beast that is several times stronger than this fool, I'm sure I can win.

The guy grinned again and took his time to walk to where Lucius was thrown.

The panicked part of Lucius was still looking around and confused. Why hasn't anyone helped me? The teachers all have a horrified expression, but they aren't moving to help!

Then the answer came to him. It's because they're scared, Lucius thought, mildly surprised at the answer.

Lucius waited no more time. He ran at his opponent and feigned a punch to his head, but rolled past him and jabbed at his back.

It pleasantly hit his back, making him lurch forward. However, Lucius's mini-victory was short-lived. His foe turned around and growled at Lucius.

"You think that hurt?" He yelled, enraged and launched a flurry of attacks.Lucius managed to dive out of the way.

The battle raged on like that for a long time. Lucius focused on doing a quick jab or punch then jumping away. Lucius saw people starting to stir and murmur as if it was fair that a bear was fighting a mouse. Some seemed like they wanted to jump in, but it was futile.

One time, someone jumped in but was instantly pushed back into the mob from a punch from the opponent's punch.

Lucius slowly seemed to be getting the upper hand. The opponent's movements seemed to be getting a millisecond slower, and Lucius was still alive.

Lucius was feeling good. He hasn't taken a single blow since and his opponent was getting tired. He could win this!

Then he made a wrong move. He rolled behind the guy and lunged to make his boldest move -- a direct punch to the back of his head. Lucius's fist was an inch away when the guy whipped around and raised his fist.

A hulking object entered his field of vision, a moment of intense pain, then a bright light flashed and turned ink black.

And then all was still.
