《Rise of Nightflower》18 - Despicable Bait

Su Yanran’s expression was grim as she also recognized Xiao Tie signing up for the White Spirit Competition. However, this was to be expected. Though his moral character was not very outstanding, he still had a good deal of talent as he was already a Tianqi Geomancer at the age of 16. Compared to Su Qingcheng at least, Xiao Tie was outwardly a notch stronger. When faced in a battle, most people would assume Su Qingcheng would be utterly defeated. On the other hand, news of a youth from the Su clan in Tang Gu City having lasted some exchanges with Hu Linglei’s “Emperor Demon Puppet” which was considered a peerless existence among puppets. Many people now recognized that it was Su Qingcheng, the youngest daughter of Su Ran, who many in the crowd recalled to be Tianqi Ghost Empress, a once feared personality in the empire.
Immediately a commotion erupted as Xiao Tie and Su Qingcheng almost felt sparks trying to bear down on their eyes as they stared angrily at one another. Naturally, many Tang Gu City natives knew of Su Qingcheng’s public challenge that she would break off marriage ties with this fellow if she could become a Tianqi Geomancer in a year. It had been about one quarter of the way and Su Qingcheng had gained a rank already. Actually, this progress could be considered as only abnormal given she was once a cripple. “Good, good! Su Qingcheng, it seems you already broke through to Third Rank,” Xiao Tie mocked. “So you’re signing up also, right? I bet you won’t make it past the first round. You’ll probably get yourself killed if you get lucky and go further!” he continued.
“Courting death!” Su Qingcheng growled as she angrily and forcefully asked the attendant before her to put her name down with Su Yanran. Feeling an abnormally fierce tianqi erupting from her hands, the sign up attendant no longer dared to underestimate this kid, fearing she might get burned by the impetuous youth. “I’ll beat you down right now if you want! Otherwise, get the hell out of my sight!” Su Qingcheng cursed with a vicious voice. Those watching the scene were amazed and impressed that this fourteen year old girl could act so imposing and arrogant.

In the distance, beneath the shade of a large tree, unnoticed by anybody, Fang Li was standing there, watching with an impressed expression. She licked her lips as she saw Su Qingcheng fiercely and defiantly standing up to Xiao Tie. The Snake Empress much preferred young girls like her who were wild and prone to outbursts. This made it much more fun for her to ‘tame.’ She didn’t say a word though, and instead continued to observe, as if she were watching and enjoying a good show.
On the other hand, Su Qingcheng was not having a good time. She stared angrily at Xiao Tie, though she patiently waited for him to finish signing up. This was not exactly a good place to fight, no matter how badly the girl wanted to crush him into the square. Afterwards, the handsome young man laughed and approached the two sisters. Su Yanran glared at him with ferocity, causing Xiao Tie to frown. He was actually scared, since Su Yanran actually was already a high-ranked Tianqi Princess at this time. It could be said that she was half a step away from becoming a Tianqi Lord. As one of the elder children of Su Ran, this was both understandable and also very terrifying.
“Dare to make things hard for my sister?” Su Yanran yelled.
“Sis. This is my fight,” Su Qingcheng said. “I want to deal with him myself.”
Xiao Tie grinned. “If you dare to, come challenge me on the center stage,” he said, pointing to a currently empty stage in the direct middle of the Empire Square. “That’s the Bailing White Battle Platform. We can battle there and I can put you in your place, wench.”
The people signing up had now become an audience to a rather interesting drama between those of the younger generation. Those from other cities who did not know the context behind this were quickly caught up and realized that Su Qingcheng was simply fighting for her dignity. Though she was once a cripple, she was able to recover and even attempt to cultivate again like never before. How could she let a mere Xiao Tie get her down? Xiao Tie might have been a family genius but his personality was rather despicable. Who would want to get married to him? Even if he was rich, he was the kind of guy who would get a harem of concubines. He wouldn’t be good to have as a partner for anything particularly meaningful.

Su Qingcheng gazed intently at the battle platform. “Fine, I will accept your challenge!”
Su Yanran and the other people stared at the girl with dumbfounded expressions. Girl, this Xiao Tie was despicable, challenging someone not only 2 years younger than him but also several ranks ahead in power. Aren’t you simply courting death? Though Su Yanran knew a bit about Su Qingcheng’s tricks, she didn’t know the full extent of them. Fang Li on the other hand was smiling in glee. Looks like she could already get her own show right now!
Xiao Tie grinned as both of them left the queues and went to the White Battle Platform. Once the two combatants were in place, a transparent, but very powerful white energy dome surrounded it. It was made of a very pure specific type of Tianqi energy, which made Yao Meiyue quickly appear out of nowhere in the form of a mental voice. Careful. Even though nobody can detect my presence under the protection of White Battle Platform’s White Bone Tianqi, nobody can even interfere with this battle. Not even Fang Li who’s been spying on you this whole time. You have to get him to admit defeat or you aren’t getting out of here!
Truthfully speaking, Su Qingcheng had been blinded by emotions and rage. Otherwise, she would have asked for more details about the Bailing White Battle Platform which she carelessly entered and now was stuck in a battle that she actually didn’t really need to get into right now. Now she would have to rely on her own skills and avoid using Star Vortex Fist as much as possible. Getting into her Black Hole Stance, she stared in the most intimidating way she could at Xiao Tie, who simply chuckled.
“Frog inside the well! Girl, let me show you who daddy is!” Xiao Tie grinned.

Sod's Law (Dropped)
This fiction has been dropped, you're more than welcome to read it anyway (there is sort of an ending). But you have been warned... Sod's law is a more extreme version of Murphy's law. While Murphy's law says that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong (eventually), Sod's law requires that it always goes wrong with the worst possible outcome. For example, concepts such as "bad fortune will be tailored to the individual" and "good fortune will occur in spite of the individual's actions" are sometimes given as examples of Sod's law in action. This would broaden Sod's law to a general sense of being "mocked by fate". In these aspects it is similar to some definitions of irony, particularly the irony of fate. - Definitions of Sod's Law on Wikipedia. The protagonist, as many before them, and many who followed, thought they were just entering a VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing-Game). Unbeknownst to them however, was a short paragraph in the Terms & Conditions, that, upon agreement, would actually transport them to a fantasy world, loosely based on the game they thought they were entering. - Something anyone could be forgiven for, no-one reads them after all. In this new world, they discover that people are born with “Traits”, a System recognised, ability, skill, or talent, that they are born with. Sod's Law was not a trait they, or anyone else for that matter, would want. Pure madness follows. Yup, this is about a character transferred to a fantasy game-world with the worst luck imaginable. This is my first fiction so I apologise for any grammar and spelling mistakes that may be made. Hopefully it is readable, and if so please tell me! But if it's not, also tell me, but in a constructive way if at all possible? Due to the nature of the “Trait” the story will be dark in places, with plenty of gore and profanity, hence the tags. There may also be scenes of a sexual nature, but nothing full on – sorry guys but you'll have to go elsewhere for that.
