《ZO2014》Promise Me

I looked back at the metal doors, they were shaking due to the zombies banging on the door aggressively, overwhelming the banging of the older ones. I was thinking how the newer ones were faster and the older ones were slower. I knew they were zombies.
My eyes widened and I looked back at Aryton, Scowl and Bandy were looking at his wounds. "Who poorly bandaged this?" Bandy asked, looking at us. Mr. Peterson chuckled nervously. "My bad."
Can people who were bitten really turn into one of them? They were yoga mats set on the floor, the capacity of the wounded were full. Groaning echoed throughout the cafeteria. "I need to call my mom." A girl whimpered, her clothes were covered in blood. A boy sat next to her, trying to comfort her in the best way possible. "We're going to be okay." He sighed.
I frowned and looked back at Aryton. "What if we turn?" I spoke, my voice croaked. I sounded sad, knowing that my classmates might be a zombie by now. Scowl looked at Aryton and then at me. "What do you mean?"
"The people bitten; what if they turn into a zombie?" I looked back at Aya, who stared at Aryton with a terrified look on her face. Scowl bursted out in laughter. "Zombies?! Really?!"
I went over to Scowl. "Then explain to me why some of the students I saw out there were one of them?" I pointed directly at the cafeteria entrance.
Scowl stayed silent. "Explain why they can only die with their head smashed in?" I looked back at him, he was silent. Maybe it was because I am a 5th grader with the knowledge of a scientist, nice joke? Right? I'm so smart.
"How do you know what kills them? Did you kill—" Aya went in front of me. "I killed one of them, they tried eating him! Mr. Peterson shot them in the heart and the lungs. But it had no effect on them. I believe my brother over most people." She turned to look at everyone, we were getting mostly everyone's attention due to the argument. "Maybe the bitten do turn!"
I was silent, usually I'm the one defending her; but today was different. "We have to take this seriously, or else we will become one of the dead!"

Scowl nodded. "Okay, Okay. We get it. They're zombies." He looked over at Bandy. "We gotta get weapons." Scowl spoke. Aya clenched the baseball bat, she was ready to swing at Scowl.
I gently grabbed the blood covered baseball bat and hugged her. "We will be okay, we will see our parents and survive this. Together." I looked at Brick, Bruce, Aryton, Rose and Mr. Peterson. "Together we will."
Aryton chuckled and coughed. "Yeah… you're right. We will." Aryton tried his best to ignore the fact that he might become one of those monsters, he didn't want to turn into one of them. They had to think of a precaution if someone has symptoms of turning, though. We don't even know the symptoms of turning but it MUST be flu like. What if there were no symptoms? Many thoughts flowed through Aryton's head, his head pounding due to frustration. Mr. Peterson rested a hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry kiddo. I'll protect you."
Aryton chuckled. "Yeah you did a good job wasting your bullets back there." Mr. Peterson chuckled as well. "Oh shut it."
I looked at everyone. "Scavenge as many things as you can, make them into weapons, chair legs may be useful." I spoke, Scowl and Bandy began to walk in towards the kitchen entrance. He tried to open it. "It's locked." He sighed.
I went over to Scowl and Bandy. "Back up." I spoke as I swung the baseball bat right away, they backed up immediately. The first swing barely did anything. It was hard to tell due to the dark. But they had lanterns all set up around the place, so that was good at least.
I kept swinging, the sounds of glass cracking echoed throughout the cafeteria. Soon the glass shattered within the 7th swing. "You're weak." Brick joked. "Whatever you say." I chuckled slightly and looked at Scowl. "Can you uhhh, unlock the door?" I was embarrassed now, I couldn't reach the door knob from the other side.
Scowl hesitated, wondering what if there was a zombie in the kitchen. Let me explain the cafeteria layout. In short form. There was no opening for the cafeteria. You specifically had to pick out your food after paying through a cash register. It's hard to explain especially since I don't go to the cafeteria to eat.

The guy from earlier who was comforting this girl walked over. "Let me." He rudely spoke. "Rudy." Scowl sighed. "Don't worry. I'm not a pussy like you guys." The girl watched, I'm assuming she was his love interest. "Rudy, what if there is a zombie in there?" She spoke. "Kora, I'll be okay."
Rudy reached inside and unlocked it. Soon enough a gnarly stench swept by his nose. He ignored it and turned around. "There we fuckin' go. Your door is now unlocked!" He snickered. A zombie grabbed Rudy by his long hair and pulled him towards the window, biting a huge chunk out of his neck.
Rudy screamed in pain as the zombie lifted its head and went for another bite. Blood gushed out and the sounds of gurgling echoed, it tore his vocal cords and all he could muster up were gurgles.
Kora screamed and ran over to Rudy, trying to stop the bleeding. My eyes widened as the people in the cafeteria began freaking out. "STOP FREAKING OUT!" Some began running towards the cafeteria entrance. Mr. Peterson went in the way. "HOLD IT!"
I clenched the baseball bat and swung at the zombie, causing sprinkles of blood to splash on my face. I swung again, hearing a loud crunch as the body fell down. "It's dead!" I yelled.
Tears dribbled down Kora's face, I looked back at Rudy. Surprisingly he was still alive. "Don't go!" Rudy raised his hand, blood dribbled down his hand. "We had a big dream! You can't go yet!"
"Move out of the way!" The banging of zombies was muffled due to the survivors freaking out. Rudy's arm lowered down and he stopped gurgling. Though blood still flowed out like a river. Kora looked at Rudy. "Rudy?" She whimpered.
Kora just stared at Rudy. Bandy just stared at them. "Kora, I'm so sorry." He sighed. Kora turned her head to look at him. "It's your guys' fault he is gone!"
I looked at her. Is she serious? I was astonished, how I am being blamed for her boyfriend's actions. "Excuse me, but that was Rudy's fault. I'm sorry for your loss, I truly am but, Scowl did warn him. Rudy acted out of trying to be cool. This isn't the situation to act cool, we have to be cautious." I looked at Bandy. "Bandy, can you pick up Rudy and find something to tie him up with?"
Bandy nodded and went over, Kora didn't move. "Kora, we have to be cautious. He could turn." He kneeled down, Kora just stared at him. "Fuck off."
"Please, for the sake of everyone here. We can't afford to argue here. This is borrowed time."
"PLEASE LET US OUT!" Another student screamed. Mr. Peterson pulled out his gun, though it was out of ammo now. He aimed it at the group. "BACK UP, THERE'S MORE THAN ONE OUT THERE!" He yelled, everyone froze. "WE RATHER TAKE THAT CHANCE!" One screamed. "I WITNESSED MOST OF MY STUDENTS DIE FROM THOSE THINGS! I FAILED TO PROTECT THEM! I CAN'T FAIL TO PROTECT YOU GUYS TOO!"
They just sighed and walked off, he lowered the gun. Aryton looked at Mr. Peterson. "You did good. You tried your best to protect us." He smiled. Mr. Peterson looked at Aryton. "I did?"
"I'm going to talk to Cody, I'll be back." He went over to me as Scowl opened the door; Kora eventually agreed after a couple minutes of convincing.
Bandy picked up Rudy and went over to a table. He took off his shoe laces and tied his arms against the chair legs. "Sorry buddy." He sighed and went back.
Bruce went over to Mr. Peterson. He wanted to tell him how grateful he was that he protected them.
Aryton went over to me and looked at me. "If I show symptoms of sickness. I want you to." He whispered in my ear; my eyes widened. "What? No."
A student went over to Mr. Peterson. He had one hand in his pocket. "If you're going to talk about going out there, then it's a no." He spoke. He pulled out his gun.
Mr. Peterson's eyes widened, plenty of thoughts came by in a flash. Was there meant to be a school shooting today? The student aimed it at Mr. Peterson and pulled the trigger.

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.

A cute duckling in an ugly world
A twist on an old story. A cute duckling in an ugly demon world. A cute demon that starts with nothing, fighting trough the world, the insults, laughter of others at her appearance and other demons making fun of her for being cute, for being different. But she doesn't grow into a monstrous swan. No, that's not how her story ends. ------------------------------- I didn't use any movies, books or series for inspiration the story is my original work. This is just the result of my weird imagination and brain telling me what to write. I hope you liked it :) It’s just a story, like all of my other stores. It doesn’t have a deeper spiritual, moral or ethical meaning.
