《The subtle World of Terraria》2-19. The Eye of Cthulhu (Part 1)

*Elizabeth POV*
“OPEN FIRE!!” I heard Rudolf’s commands from the balcony of my house.
After the Rudolf Command, all the archers hiding under the branches, towers and trees started shooting Arrows towards the giant demonic Eye without revealing themselves.
Tonight, there was a full moon so the arrows would glint off the moonlight every now and then and it would look like tiny stars attacking a Gigantic terrifying eye that was looking down on us. Most of the arrows successfully hit the Eye but the eye didn’t even budge as the arrows bounced back.
“DO NOT LOSE HOPE! ARCHERS! RELOAD!” Rudolf kept giving commands.
“MAGES! READY UP!” Another one of my commanders screamed out.
Moments later, the Giant eye started to act like a mother as smaller Demon Eyes started coming from its behind. “SHOOT AT THE SMALLER EYES!” Rudolf said as another volley of arrows were shot from the archers. The tiny demon eyes dodged all the arrows and quickly came down to attack as the Giant eye stayed in the sky watching. Luckily my Archers aren't fragile and have been taught Close Quarters Combat in case of emergencies like these.
What was unbelievable was the fact that some of the archers were still hit by the Tiny eyes and fell down their Posts.
“W-What!?” I said as I couldn’t believe it, are those tiny eyes that strong?
I quickly used my Branch Magic and caught every single archer that fell down with a thin plant roots and carefully placed them down.
I became unsteady as I held on to the balcony railing. The Fight with that Silver Daemon has me drained me of almost all my mana and It will still take a few hours for it to regenerate completely. The soldiers I saved saluted me before going back to their posts.
I unsteadily walked away from the balcony and made my way to the open ground below. I hurried my way through my room and to the tree tower that had stairs which lead all the way to the ground. I was going down the stairs but I heard the gigantic eye scream again.
The wooden wall beside me blew up to smithereens as if a bomb had blown up right beside me, I quickly held my hands up to my face to block all the scraps of wood that flew everywhere. It hurted a bit but I quickly tried to see what happened from in-between my hands. What I saw shocked me to my core as my heart was clenched in fear.
The Giant eye had broken halfway through the wall and was staring at me. I forgot to breathe as I looked at it, It felt like it was staring into my soul. I suddenly had the overwhelming feeling of getting out of the way as It screamed again before charging straight at me I wasn't fast enough put up a magic shield and took the hit head on.
“GAH!” I screamed in pain as some of my blood left my mouth. The wall behind me broke as I fell through it. I fell from a whole one story height and fell straight on the ground. I laid there as the Gigantic eye was right above me, staring into my eyes, it was terrifying.
“HEY BEAST!!” Someone screamed and I couldn’t tell who, “OVER HERE!!!”
Some vines immediately came out from the ground beside me with a boom and started attacking the eye with whip-like movements. The vines couldn’t be compared to mine so I knew who was trying to save me, it was Rudolf.
The vines kept hitting the eye with a loud snapping noise and the eye changed its target from me to Rudolf. It Screamed again as it charged towards Rudolf. I unsteadily stood up and went towards the nearest soldier that had fallen.
“Are You Okay?” I asked worriedly, he looked in way worse condition than me.
He coughed out some blood. “I-I'm sorry about this, Y-Your Highness.”
“Don't be. What happened up there?” I asked for the situation. I have to know if we’re winning or losing.
He tried to talk but it was hard for him. “These Demon Eyes are not Ordinary ones.” He coughed out some more blood, “They’re weak, but they're really fast and intelligent. Even if we blocked them, some of the others eyes would attack from behind.”
I nodded “Okay, you did good soldier. If you can walk then hurry up and get yourself patched up before helping anyone else who has fallen.”
“Y-Yes Your Highness!” I nodded as he tried to get up, I don’t have time to waste here, I have to somehow take care of that Giant eye otherwise we will not be able to keep up.
I looked up at the battle stations of my soldiers and accessed our situation There sounds of screams and fighting some of my soldiers were falling and some of the smaller eyes were being repelled by the mages, Rudolf was keeping the Giant eye’s attention at him but it won’t be long before he falls too.
Damn it! I thought to myself, If I don’t do something then We’ll all die!
Just then I saw Tifa and Sarah coming over to me. There was also a little Silver Daemon girl following them.
Sarah looked at me shocked with worry, “Your Highness! You're Hurt!” I waved my hands at her do dispel her worries.
“Don't mind me,” I said as I looked at her with anger, “You failed your mission, didn't you? And now your brethren are falling.”
She looked at me shocked and confused, “N-No we didn't Fail.” She said hurriedly, “We interrogated some prisoners and got the intel that the summoning was supposed to happen tomorrow at the festival by using this ‘eye’ thing.” As Sarah said that, Tifa brought out a really weird looking demon eye, which was the size of a hand. It’s weird because demon eyes are always larger than a head, this one was way smaller, just like the ones the Giant eye was birthing.
“Not only that,” Sarah continued, “We also arrested everyone in suspicion of siding with the Cultist.”
I looked at Sarah confused. If the mission was successful then why? “If what you said is all correct, then how did That thing came here?” I started thinking until I got an idea, “Wait, maybe it's looking for the eye that’s in Tifa hands?”
Tifa nodded, “That is a possibility.” She said.
That’s the only thing I can think off right now, “Okay, Sarah get that eye from Tifa and try to get that Giant eye's attention.” I said as I pointed at the small eye in Tifa’s hand. “After that, see if the Giant has any reaction to that small eye. As long as there’s any reaction, we might be able to win this.”
“Yes Ma’am!” Sarah saluted before she took the eye from Tifa and hurried up a tree.
I looked at Tifa and started relaying my orders to her, “Tifa I need you to get everyone injured to a safe place and patch them up with the best of your abilities.”
“Yes!” Tifa said and headed towards the fallen soldiers that were scattered around and more were slowly falling. I wiped the blood trickling down from my mouth.
“Umm, Are you really okay?” I looked at the person who said it and it was the silver daemon girl who was following Tifa. I don’t know how she got here but I don’t have time to waste.
I looked at her and quickly apologized. “First of all, I apologize, I don’t know how you got here but we’re short on hands, can you please help Tifa?” she looked at me startled before nodding quickly and running towards Tifa with her small legs.
Ugh, I’m starting to have a headache from all this. At this point, I can only pray that we’ll somehow make it through this.
“HEY BEAST LOOK OVER HERE!!” I could hear Sarah’s scream from all the way down here. I just hope this will fix everything.
The gigantic eye didn't look over to Sarah and kept its attack towards Rudolf who was skilfully dodging it with the best of his ability. The Tiny eyes were also slowly being brought down by the soldiers and archers.
Rudolf noticed Sarah and headed over there. Sarah also started to shoot arrows at the Giant eye to get its attention. It worked as the Giant Eye Finally noticed Sarah and Screamed loudly before charging towards her.
Sarah panicked and screamed before jumping off the tree which was blown to smithereens by the Giant eye’s charge.
Sarah landed safely but the weird looking eye was no longer in her hands. Did she drop it!? I thought to myself as she started looking around for it. Unfortunately, I heard a loud slap of some wet flesh hitting the ground hard. Sarah and I both looked towards the noise at the same time and we saw the weird looking eye squished to the ground as a small pool of blood was forming underneath it.
“Oops.” Sarah said as she realized what just happened. I could only stare at Sarah with cold eyes.
“What!? I Panicked!” Sarah said as she tried to defend herself.
I held on to my temples in pain but just then.
“AWWOOOOOOOOOOHHH!!!”
We heard another Scream from the sky.
“Oh... My... God.” Sarah said with fear and astonishment.
I was also left speechless.
.........another gigantic eye parted the clouds as it descended down.
*Evan POV*
I placed down another Campfire which would be handy for their increased health regeneration.
Whew. Finally finished building this arena.
I looked into the distance and I could see the elves fighting the Eye of Cthulhu.
My arena was made of long Wooden platform that went below and above trees also here and there too, Basically, there were just really long bridges of wooden platforms with ropes hanging around here and there too for now reason. I also placed tons of torches on the trees so it's really bright as well.
“Now to lead that Boss over here.” I said to myself as I thought I was ready to face the Eye of Cthulhu. I only needed speed and a large open area where I can run around in to dodge the Eye of Cthulhu and deal some damage every now and then. The key thing required was just patience and speed and I will be able to kill it without getting a scratch.
Just then
The Eye of Cthulhu has Awoken
“OH, COME ON!” I screamed out. What the hell are those Cultists doing!? Wasn't one Enough!? Flippen bastards making things more complicated then they should be.
Well, no time to think about that, Time for some Action!
I quickly gulped down all my buffs potions.
Life 160/160
Iron Skin: Increased Defense by 8 points
Swiftness: Increased Movement speed by 20%.
Regeneration: Increased Life Regeneration speed.
Camp Fire: Increased Life Regeneration speed.
I used my grappling hook on the trees and let the momentum take me forward. It looked like I was flying straight forward and it felt just as good. The wind whistling past me along with the nice cool breeze of the night is really addicting you know?
I quickly got close to elven Kingdom and the 2 eyes. I could see the kingdom in a really bad state, some trees fallen, some tree house with holes in them. I could also see the Elf queen and Sarah on the ground dumbfounded by these two giant eyeballs.
I looked at the 2 giant eyes as well and… Hmm... Even staring at them doesn't make me feel any kind of fear. Is it because of the skills? It’s because of the skills isn't it!
Meh, doesn’t matter anymore, I should probably her the Eye’s attention now. I activated my intimidation skill as I pointed towards the two eye who were busy wrecking the elven kingdom up. “HEY YOU TWO JACKASSES! HOW ABOUT YOU STOP WRECKING THINGS UP OVER THERE AND START ‘LOOKING’ AT ME? I SWEAR ‘WATCHING’ ME WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD TIME!”
God Damn it. I don't know many eye Puns. What a waste of good opportunity, I better ‘look’ for them later.
{Author's Note: That Wasn't even remotely funny.}
I took out my Silver Bow and shot some Fire Arrows to the both of them. The arrows looked like some fireworks on its way before blowing up in this dead of night. The arrows successfully hit the Eyes and they were ignited on fire. The Giant eyes looked like giant fireballs now.
Both the eyes stopped doing whatever they were doing and turned around to look at me. Kinda creepy but I got both of their attention now and that was my mission. Oh? I also just noticed but one of the eyes had about 60% health remaining, which makes sense as it was hit by hundreds of arrows by the elves.
The tactic to beat them is simple. They spawn some Servants of Cthulhu which are just tiny Demon eyes whose sole purpose is to annoy you. Then after that, they would charge at you 3 times before repeating their attack pattern. let's hope they do that here too, because I’m not learning new attack patterns, but that should be the Phase 1 of these guys which I have to beat.
They both screamed at me before they charged at me but I grappled to a tree behind me and headed towards the arena I built.
“I wonder how these guys scream without a mouth?” i said to myself as I leisurely made my way to my arena. The Eye of Cthulhu kept charging at me but I was too fast for them.
Once I reached my arena, I looked back to see that the Eye of Cthulhu were still very far away. These wooden platform aren't very wide but just enough for one person to stand, walk or run on. I made the platforms go around and above the trees just in case so I have no problems with moving around a lot. Oh and there were campfires on the ground, I wanted to put them on the platforms, but I didn't wanted to trip on them when I was running on the platforms so I decided to keep them on the ground below.
I dual-equipped my shotguns and aimed at the tiny eyes coming at me. The only good thing about these eyes is that they have very low health, and they would drop small health orb every now and then which would heal me a tiny amount of hp.
I shot my shotguns a few times and it took care of the whole tiny eye group. The Wide-spread of this shotgun is amazing in clearing out these weak enemies. The Eye of Cthulhu finally reached here and I started to shoot them as well. I focused on the one that had the least HP left.
If his health reaches below 50 Percent then I'll have to fight his Phase 2, which is makes him lose his ability to spawn more tiny demon eyes but the charge will be longer and stronger.
My Tactic here is simple.
1) Fend off the little eyes.
2) Get some good hits during their charging phase while dodging them by using the grapple.
3) Repeat.
This should be enough to kill them both.
The only problem would be their last Phase where they start going at the speed of light. But I’m also fast enough with the grappling hook.
I kept trying to kill them with this tactic. It was slower but also the safest and it won't turn daytime anytime soon so I should keep my patience.
They got few hits on me every now and then but since I was a living tank right now, the damage I received was only a small amount.
One of the eyes finally started going into its 2nd phase. It started spinning at a very high speed while spewing out tons of those tiny eye's. That Eye of Cthulhu also lost its Front part of the eye's skin and it just looked like a giant floating mouth with large bones sticking out that looked like sharp teeth's.
“Looks like this will take some time.” I said as I blasted a couple tiny eyes with my shotguns.
*Wrecking ass in progress*
Soon they we're both in their second phase, One had 20 percent hp left and the other has 40 Percent.
My arena is also completely destroyed by the Eye of Cthulhu's Charge attack but it’s no biggie, as long as the area was wide open, I can do it.
I received some more hits every now and then but its nothing noteworthy.
If I'm correct then they will go to their 3rd phase when they have 10 Percent Health left.
Now, how should I take care of that phase? Its the most troublesome one, once they have about 3% or lower Hp left then they receive a permanent 100 Percent increase in speed. That is the thing I want to avoid the most.
Wait a second, I was really focused on these eyes that I didn’t notice the queen and her archers were stationed in the nearby trees watching this battle between me and the eyes. I can definitely use their help, a volley of around 50 arrows is bound to take away more than ten percent of the Eye’s health... Right?
I guess the reason they didn't shoot yet is that they're afraid of hitting me. Or the fact that I'm also handling them quite well.
“HEY QUEEN!” I screamed out, “A LITTLE HELP! ON MY SIGNAL LET EVERY ARCHER SHOOT THAT WEAKENED EYE!” I pointed at the one who had the smallest health left.
I couldn't see the Queen's expression since I was busy fending these guys off but I’ll trust that she’s reading her men for the arrow barrage. Until then, I focused all my offense on the Eye with lower health.
As its health reached around 13% I looked towards the archers and they were, thankfully, ready and in position with arrows nocked to their bows.
I grappled away from the eyes and screamed with all my strength as I pointed at the weak eye. “NOOWW!!!!”
A giant Volley of what appeared like hundreds of arrows flew from above me to the Eye with lower health. I also shot some bullets just in case.
Almost all the arrows hit it, but unfortunately, it survived with 2% health, the one thing I didn’t want to happen.
[FUUUU-] I was about to swear but the other eye charged at me. I quickly grappled to some other tree and the platform I was standing on was completely Obliterated. The Eye with lower health Started charging towards me with insane speed, and my reactions and body aren't fast enough to dodge any of that!
“SHIT!” I screamed as the eye with the speed of sonic came after me.

Disclaimers: Chapter Frequency: I aim for one chapter a week. Chapter Length: I try to keep chapters between 3000 and 6000 words. Binge Preference: I plan for 30 chapters per arc. If you want to binge a complete arc, then that is the number to wait for. I will also add a line to chapters indicating the beginning and end of an arc. A main character that is forced to explore a very narrow path of magic due to a permanent condition. A main character that is a part of a larger cast. A main character that is growing but won't become the strongest around anytime soon. A story following a single main character but with introduction or theme setting scenes without the main character. What Not to Expect: Edgy grimdark characters – I will never write a sexual violence scene or gory descriptions of torture. I hate reading it and I would hate writing it even more.
