《Battlefield Restart (Original/Unedited)》Chapter 40: Equals Bond

To become a God, huh? That sounds like a nice dream but it is something I will probably never be able to achieve.
Hmm...? Why is it I feel disappointed?
"Wait there!" As I was half way through the door, she reacted and caught me by the arm. Her killing intent was no longer as fiery as it was before and instead burned calmly deep in her eyes.
"Like I said before, I don't trust you one bit , so don't think I won't kill you if you keep on trying to force me." My mood isn't that good right now so I don't feel like dealing with this damn nutcase. It would be better if she didn't force me 'erase' her existence.
"Fine. I won't force you to make a Soul Contract with me. However, you must at least form a Blood Contract with me." Her eyes shines with a unreadable light as she firmly held me in place.
"You're probably going to ask what the difference is. So I'll explain it. There are many kinds of Blood Contracts in the world which have different effects. The one that I'm proposing to you is called an 'Equals Bond'. It allows us to share the same innate 'Traits' brought forth by our souls. I'll let you go if you agree to it." She seems to have completely forgotten that embarrassing statement she made in excitement and is now talking more rationally than before.
Now that I look at her closely, is her expression always that scary by default? From what she said, she's the reincarnation of a sword, so it's probably the not that likely that her 'true face' has any proper experience dealing with other humans. Is that why she pretended to be mute after reincarnating into this household?
Even is she has an abnormal personality because of her past incarnation being a sword, I'm not inclined to help her understand human emotions, there's no benefit for me to waste my precious time of her.

I wasn't completely in the dark on what Blood Contacts were because there are many strong individuals on Sphera that make contracts with Beasts in order to obtain the benefit of physical prowess.
The other reason I didn't give in to my temptations and used the ability to switch my race to that of a Beast is because there was no benefit in doing so. Since I'll be able to gain the same power with less dangers in the future.
I'm actually tempted by her offer. Even though she's practically a psychopath with that strange disposition of hers. A Equals Bond will give me assurance that she wouldn't do anything unfavourable since both sides would had their very lives connected by it.
"What are your 'Traits' anyway?" I've already recorded her exceptional physical prowess and sword skills but don't have any information regarding how she gained such strong abilities.
"Oh~ Are you interested in my body perhaps? You naughty step-brother you~ I knew I was too beautifu-"
"Get to the point." I interrupt her. I have no interest in making small talk with this strange psychopath who oozes killing intent like an unsheathed sword.
"I have only one trait called Nephilim Body, the ability to have a Grey Origin that allows me to access the abilities of the human race and beast race. It's unlike that inferior trait of yours that can only choose one or the other." She smiles pleasantly while her eyes expressed some anger for my interruption. Has she fallen for me or something? Well, her sparing me instead of just killing me to steal my potential would make sense if that was the case, but I would feel scared if my prediction turned out to be the truth.
Putting that aside for now, it seems she no longer wants to harm my potential like before, which is quite good. She probably heard from Enigma about my abilities, which is quite odd, why was he willing to tell her but not me?

"What benefits do I get from forming an Equals Bond with you? The acquisition of more power doesn't really interest me considering my goals." I try to get more benefits despite how tempting the offer was.
"Who are you kidding? I already know of what kind of person you were in your past life. Even though I'm unable to communicate properly with other if I showed my true personality, I'm not completely inept in schemes, all my previous 'Wielders' came from Earth okay?" I really want to murder her for practically insulting everyone on Earth but doing so wouldn't give any benefits.
"I will 'guide' you and help you increase your strength despite the fact that you've already formed Skill Roots." Her words struck deeply. It's only recently while fighting Sylphy with full force did I notice the drawback of Skill Roots.
"Why were you so urgently trying to 'mature' anyway? It would have been better if you stuck with increasing your magic quality like I'm doing right now." She let go of my arm and walked side by side to me through the corridor.
"Forget it. This exchange is quite good for me. So just shut up and only say the things I want to hear." Seeing the dangerous sharpness in my eyes, a hint of joy arose in her eyes, which really disoriented me for a moment. Is she masochistic or something?
As expected for a person who practically lived with a God before I woke up and reincarnated, she didn't even have to through a ritual to connect our body's together with a Equals Bond, she merely cut a little wound on both our fingers before using her Mana to create diagrams on our backhands.
The complicated mixture of different Spell Circles on our hands glowed for a moment before they connected a red beam of Mana to each other.
I can feel my Colourless Origin being altered somewhat by the magical transformation happening to my body regardless of my will. The Skill Roots that were within it started to evolve little by little as time went by.
"The contract is set." It was a little anticlimactic how easy it was but I guess that's for the best. There's no need for something noisy to happen every time some major event passes.
"I'll tell you later on how you could increase your strength, my disciple~ It seems like there's we are going to have to talk about it later~" She laughs cutely while walking off. My heart loosens after she left. Hah... This girl should have been named Enigma! Even Enigma himself was easier to read!
"So how did your confession go?" After suddenly seeing me walk round the corner, the Young Miss calls out to me and asks. I didn't answer her because it brings me unpleasant memories thinking about the abomination.
"Looking at that face of yours, it seems it didn't go as well as I thought, which is quite good in my opinion."
"Why do you say that?" I ask curiously.
"Nothing really." She spoke softly.
"Just go to you parents now. They've been waiting in their room for a long time. All I needed to do was walk past the door to feel the heavy atmosphere that surrounded it." She continues by changing the subject masterfully. For the first time since she left, I smiled from the bottom of my heart, it seems this little noble girl is cute after all.

The True Endgame
What defines endgame content? Is it raiding epic dungeons to take down the strongest bosses there are, or is it facing off against other players to climb the ladder and become the top PvPer? Is endgame content gathering materials and crafting the strongest and most exotic equipment that there is, or is it all about playing the market and amassing more wealth than everybody else? Some people even argue that fashion and minigames are endgame content! Ryouta has already done all of that. Having spent most of his life playing MMO after MMO, he now finds himself wanting to live a virtual life that is far more relaxed and casual than what he is known for. To Ryouta, the true endgame is fishing. Cover illustrated by KoeHaru1!

Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
