《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 218: A Significant Increase in Power (1)

The next morning, they were being sent off by the clan. Kai had provided them the money and they would then rebuild the clan for themselves. He had also felt it when they met yesterday, but didn't acknowledge it until today. Everyone grew a class stronger.

'Could it have been the effects of the Green Ki? Or has Akane's soul provided them with that power...?'

"It's most likely both. You have reconstructed their bodies and souls, they are no longer the people they once were."

Reo chimed in.

'Are you sure there isn't anything wrong with them?'

"I don't see anything abnormal, at the least."

If neither Kai nor Reo could see anything, then it was futile to try anymore.

"Do you really have to go so soon?"

Yoko's father asked her.

"I won't be gone for long."

Last night, she had already told him about what she's been doing for the past few years. It was still awkward for them to see each other considering that to her father, she was just a child yesterday.

"Please take care of Akane."

"We'll give her the finest treatment. I'm sure Isamu would've been happy to see that you're still this nice to her."

Isamu was Akane's father. Though his whereabouts are unknown, at the very least, they felt as if he wasn't gone. He was killed during the battle seven years ago but why wasn't he here with them? Nobody knew or could make any positive conjectures.

Amelia embraced Kai from the front and told him, "don't be too late."

"I won't. Umi, please make sure she doesn't exert herself."

"You can count on me!"

Akane was going to be taken care of by Amelia, but Kai was worried she would do something she shouldn't do and asked for Umi to stay behind as well.

With their farewells set, Kai activated the magic circle. Their bodies began to turn transparent as they teleported away.

"Kai, everyone, you're finally back!"

Natsumi was the first one to greet them. She had her long viridescent hair tied in a side ponytail with braids. Coupled with her somewhat homely clothes, she looked like a young housewife.

"Was there something going on?"

"Oh, no. It was just quite hot today and I wanted to focus on reading. I was so surprised when you told me earlier this morning that you guys were already back! I didn't even have time to tell brother and the others. And... they're somewhat busy with the matters regarding the heroes."

Kai frowned. The heroes were also a matter that needed to be solved. He could've dealt with all of the problems regarding them if they were the heroes summoned in the other timeline, but now, he didn't know a single one of them.

"What happened with the heroes?"

"Ugh... Don't get me started. The fire hero has burned down half a forest after getting irritated by a colony of goblins, the dark hero has been causing problems left and right with various villages and cities and has been detained, and the wind and earth heroes have become adventurers and refuse to help any of the kingdoms. The water and light heroes are being accompanied by the Crown Prince of Auparith Kingdom. So far, those two are the only ones we can really call heroes."

Natsumi told them about all of what happened during the past few months and they separated to go their various places. Kai, Yoko, Erina, and Natsumi went over to Emi. Arata, Date, and Kei went back to their homes to check on their parents and family.

"The sky is so dark..."

Erina commented as she looked outside. At the Kuroshi Clan, while the sky was darker than usual, it wasn't this dark. It was only morning yet lights were lit up everywhere due to the darkness.

"It was more effective than I thought."

"What was?"

Yoko asked. The extent to what Kai had told them was that he instructed Angie on what to do.

"I gave Angie a tool to absorb the excess mana that Emi is producing. Angels and Demons are beings second only to the Gods themselves. An angel that hasn't trained a day in their life would be able to beat any adult human, so long as they aren't capable of overpowering several people their build."

Kai began to explain while making sure all their words weren't transmitted to the others in the palace.

"In normal cases, a halfling or anything less than a pureblood is weaker than they usually are. A half-human, half-demon would become a stronger version of a human but weaker than a demon. Vampires make it even more apparent as vampires get stronger the purer their blood—the closer they are to the Blood Primogenitor."

Yoko bit her lip.

"Then if an angel and a demon were to have a child, they wouldn't have the benefits of the pureblood, but they would have the advantages of both races."

Kai nodded.

"And, since females are generally more attuned to mana and bloodline, the apparency is even more obvious when it comes to Emi than it does me."

Kai was freakishly strong, Erina, Amelia, Natsumi, everyone had acknowledged that. Even with knowledge of the future, a regular human wouldn't be able to reach such heights so quickly and so dominantly.

"Mother and father are purebloods, and that would make me and Emi halfs. However, because their angel and demon selves were sealed away and because the base of their race are humans, they had become halflings. That made it possible for me and Emi to survive this long. No living being can take the blood of an angel and demon purely at birth."

Maybe the reason that Kai's body was a stillbrith was because the original body couldn't handle even a fourth of each blood.

"It's possible for us to cast away our human portions and receive our full power. And, that's what Emi is going through at the moment. The seed in her body acts as a catalyst for her blood to coexist inside her body but it causes extreme pain and lowers her lifespan at the same time."

It was a cruel fate. Yoko clenched her fists while Erina and Natsumi lowered their heads.

"I'll save her this time, definitely. So, don't worry too much."

Kai put his hand on Yoko's head and stroked her hair a bit. She eased slightly, prompting Natsumi to frown.

"H-hold on a second, Yoko, can I talk to you?"

Natsumi pulled Yoko off to the side and began asking her questions. Erina gave them a glance and she talked to Kai with a low voice.

"Her too?"

"...Yes."

"You've really lost all restraints after Anne."

Kai grumbled but couldn't refute. Living his life in the former modern world where monogamy was the accepted practice for most, having another person was akin to cheating. He couldn't lie and say as if he had never dreamed of doing polygamy, but he wouldn't have done it in the past even if he had ten times the guts.

But, it was true that Kai didn't want to lose any of them. And, if they were all satisfied anyway, then what was the problem?

Maybe conquering Anastasia was the trigger, seeing his former enemy who wouldn't hesitate given a chance to kill him be swayed so much by him, it was an indescribable feeling. Since he told Anne that he would accept her, then wouldn't it be unfair to those who spent much longer beside him?

That's why he decided that he wouldn't worry anymore. The ones he loved and the ones who loved him in return, he would accept all of them without worrying about the opinions of others.

After Natsumi and Yoko's talk, she began glaring at Kai. It was a pretty cute sight, if not for the fact that he felt as if he'd really get stabbed if he wasn't careful.

He vowed to make sure to settle things with Natsumi after this, but Emi took priority.

They reached the door to Emi's room and without waiting for affirmation, Yoko burst in. Kazuki was sitting on the couch by the edge of the room while Angie was replacing the wet towel on Emi's forehead.

Angie turned to look at the open door. Her eyes lit up as she saw Kai and after setting down the towel in her hands, she ran up to give him a hug.

"Master! It's been so long!"

"Yes, yes, you did great..."

He would've complimented her more, but he could feel that she was sniffing his clothes quite greedily. Not wanting to hurt the disciple he hadn't seen in a while, Kai just sighed and moved away from her after she got her fill.

"Ehehe... Master's scent is so nice."

Natsumi looked at Angie strangely. As someone who idolized the very person standing in front of her just a few months ago, it was a strange feeling to say the least.

Yoko held Emi's hand. She could see that Emi was in pain as she was struggling even in her sleep. Tears streamed down Yoko's face as she leaned down with her forehead pressed against Emi's hand.

"I'm sorry I wasn't here with you..."

Kai looked at the scene and sighed. He stepped beside Yoko and put his hand on the necklace on Emi's chest.

"...There's already a frightening amount of mana contained inside."

He removed it from her neck and the sky outside suddenly became even darker. Without the lights in the room, it'd have been pitch black despite being morning.

"Yoko, hold onto this."

Kai handed her the necklace and put his hand above Emi's chest. He closed his eyes and concentrated, the flow of mana that was being dispersed into the surroundings suddenly slowed down and then halted into a complete stop. Sweat was flowing from Kai's forehead as he concentrated more and more.

Erina's eyes widened as she was the first to realize what he was doing.

"Kai, stop!"

She wanted to shove him out of the way to stop him but she didn't know what kind of repercussions it could cause. All of the mana in the surroundings suddenly began pouring in. It wasn't just the natural mana that covered the world, even the mana laced with darkness and frost that were being emitted by Emi were gathering into one spot—Kai.

It wasn't until half a minute later did the mana start to coalesce enough to be seen by the naked eye. At first it was just a small ball of light, then it became the size of a head, and it slowly expanded until it enveloped Kai's entirety. Yoko looked on with clenched fists.

Natsumi was panicking and Kazuki was at the edge of his seat. Angie was the one with the calmest expression.

The darkness in the sky slowly receded until the sun returned. By then, the entire room was covered with the mana's light. The necklace in Yoko's hand had also conceded all of its mana.

Suddenly, the mana gathered began to lessen and move towards another place. It dispersed and went into Kai's body through his orifices.

His mana jumped from S-class to the very peak, and as half the mana had depleted, his power jumped to SS-class, it was awakening the Immortal's weakened form. Erina and the others couldn't believe what they were seeing.

If it was possible to absorb other's mana to boost one's own, then there'd be S-class as far as the eye could see. What they were looking at now went against everything they believed in before.

Finally, the mana's light was low enough to show Kai. His body was cracking and steaming at the same time, his regenerative abilities were at full throttle, desperately trying to keep his body from breaking.

In the end, the ball of mana finally disappeared.

Kai's body collapsed on one knee and desperately tried to keep himself awake.

"Yoko... Put the necklace back."

"R-right!"

Yoko snapped out of her daze and immediately wrapped the necklace back to Emi. Seeing as how her mana was being absorbed once more, Yoko breathed a sigh of relief, then she turned around. Kai had already been surrounded by everyone else.

"Are you crazy?!"

Erina hit Kai in the back of the head.

"If just one thing had gone wrong, you'd have exploded into ten thousand pieces by now! Are you trying to make us widows before we're even married?!"

"A-agh..."

Kai groaned in pain. Normally, something on the level of a slap wouldn't even faze him slightly. However, with his body on the verge of collapse, it felt like being carved by a blade.

"Haa... Your Highness, would you mind... gathering everyone and your most trusted people?"

Kazuki pointed at himself comically and after seeing Kai's nod, he left the room. A general ordering a prince to gather people, the nobles would've been outraged.

"Erina, do you want to go first?"

"...?"

Erina suddenly had a bad feeling.

"W-what do you mean?"

Kai looked at Emi.

"There's no way her body will be able to absorb the mana, that's why it's being released to her surroundings. So... she needs a different outlet."

Erina shivered and she tried to back off but Yoko held her still.

"I-I'll go after you."

"Y-you!"

Suddenly being betrayed, Erina was then restrained by Kai. For the next few minutes, all that could be heard in the room was the cries of young maidens—prompting many of the palace maids to fear that part of the palace.
