《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 186: A Calm but Overwhelming Rage (2)

"Let's have some fun, shall we?"
Kai's words made many of them tremble in fear uncontrollably. Adam and William who had more power than the others could resist slightly their hands couldn't help but tremble all the same.
"Bastard...!"
William ignored the pain coming from his leg and roared.
"You shouldn't do that... unless you don't want to keep your leg that is."
Permanently crippling opponents wasn't allowed but if they crippled themselves, then they'd have nothing to say, right?
Unfortunately, Kai planned to remove the troublesome William's enmity, not kill him. He still had some use left for the future.
More of Kai's armor separated from his body and stabbed into William's limbs to stop him from moving. Then, they began sucking out Wlliam's mana.
He wanted to humiliate him but for better or worse, he didn't participate in the whole plan against Yoko's group. If they wanted to target him then he'd let them be but if they targeted the others, he wouldn't show mercy.
William clenched his teeth and stopped moving. The more he moved, the more the blade would rip his muscles apart.
"...I'll get you for this."
Kai scoffed, removed the blade from William's leg and kicked him away from the stage.
One of the people from the side who weren't involved with Adam tried to launch a sneak attack but some of the blades once more separated from Kai's body and formed a shield to block the fireball.
"I'll play with you guys soon."
Without turning back, Kai left those ominous words which made shivers go down their spine.
Turning his attention back to Adam's group, Kai slowly began creating electricity.
What made a good conductor for electricity? Metal and sea water were ones that conducted a lot. Then, what if he were to send a shock through all of the people in front of him right now?
There were metal blades stuck into their legs and most of them wore metal armor.
Tracing this line of thought, Kai smirked. He couldn't reveal lightning but that didn't mean he couldn't send it through each one of them with a thin line.
Kai feigned scratching his shoulder but in reality, took something out of his pendant. It may have fooled most of the people gathered today but it couldn't fool Anne and the principal who were watching him with intense eyes.
"A space storage..."
Anne muttered seemingly at a loss. For her, Kai- no, Kenji was getting stranger by the second.
With fluid movements, Kai stretched out the thin strings over to the metal blades which then began to wrap around them.
BZZT
It was just a tiny sound, only enough for Kai to hear but the result was terrifying. Many of the people on the floor convulsed and some foamed from their mouths. The electric shock directly inside their body was too intense.
Of course, Kai wouldn't let them off with just that. He lowered the voltage, just enough to wake everyone up and began repeating the process over and over.

Since people in this world used mana instead of electricity for power sources, nobody could determine what Kai was doing to the others.
"P-please!"
"No more...! AHHHHH!"
For those who tried to plead, Kai increased the shock even further. He had connected the strings to two hands, one for light shocks and one for intense ones.
Seeing this scene, the ones whose knees gave out were gaining power, trying to escape but those who did so were immediately had their legs stabbed by the blades and met the same fate as the others.
Still, Kai knew when to stop. Those who really couldn't take anymore were kicked away with their bones broken in several places while those who still had some will left to resist were given even stronger shocks.
In the end, under the eyes of the audience and teaching staff, despite the numerous pleas given to him to stop, he continued on tormenting them over the course until there were only about two or three handfuls of students left waiting to enter.
The tournament turned into a public display of torture.
The newcomers weren't punished as severely but because Kai was in a bad mood, he punished them all the same. Of course, he didn't forget to plant fear into their hearts. Now, whenever they saw- no, whenever they even thought about Kai, they would shiver uncontrollably. Their bodies will instinctively react.
None of the people in the audience dared to even speak because of the atmosphere being produced from Kai right now.
But, Anne's back was drenched in cold sweat. Such a technique that could suppress an A-class without requiring him to lift a finger has been maintained for so long. On top of that, he had a huge amount of living metal which could be considered national treasures in this day and age. What was the reason he was courting her?
With his power, perhaps he could even find someone from the angel continent, what was the point of courting a human like her? Status? He could even get knight captain if he so wished. He was obviously S-class but continued to hide it but when Anne tried to peer into his powers, she couldn't see its depth at all. That meant that he was stronger than her, not just by a bit, but over twice as strong. And with his status as an S-class, money wouldn't be an issue.
Although she didn't know whether he falsified it or not, the papers said he was just 16. She was a whole two years ahead of him yet he was actually able to hold that much power at such an age.
A single S-class had the power at the level of a country, perhaps even higher. It was no exaggeration to call them rulers.
Perhaps sensing her gaze, Kai turned his head around and mouthed a few words to her. Because she was paying close attention to Kai, she could read his lips clearly.
"I'll meet you at Arcane Classroom."

She mouthed off his words unconsciously. At the same time, she kept on forming various theories as to why he was calling her.
With his secret exposed, could it be he intends to strike a deal with me? Or, is he planning to silence me... no, that won't work, there are too many people here.
Seeing as how Anne went off into her own little world right after he gave her a message, he turned his attention back to the others on the floor. By this point, his anger was mostly sated but he still had to make sure that they'd never try anything again. He could plant fear of himself in their hearts but he couldn't plant fear of the others.
That meant he had to make sure they know that when they mess with the others, Kai would go and settle matters with them personally.
And the best way to do that was through intimidation. It would be best if I had a psychological skill to do so but... wait.
Continuing his thoughts, Kai's eyes suddenly widened. That's right, he did have a skill to influence the mind. Mental Pressure, one that influences others. Because Soul Aura was far more efficient when it came to making others submit, he had never used this.
But if it's now...
"[Mental Pressure]."
Kai spoke in a low voice.
Reo.
"I got it, I got it. I actually forgot about this technique myself too. Well, since you've already used it, all that's left is to plant a suggestion into their minds. 'You are hungry', 'you hate this person', 'you are annoyed by men', these are just simple suggestions but let's say you want to give them something hard like, 'you will become a spy and infiltrate the Empire's men, then, you will report back every 23rd of the month while trying to avoid detection-' will take a lot more effort."
Reo paused before going on with his explanation.
"But with your current willpower and mind power, it's more than enough. You want to give them the suggestion 'if you mess with Yoko and the others, Kai will come for your heads', something along those lines, right?"
As expected, Reo knew the inner workings of Kai's head.
"Then go ahead. You have to speak to use a suggestion though. If you were just giving them difficulty to think or to process anything then you would just have to use it like you use Soul Aura."
Nodding to Reo, Kai expanded Mental Pressure's field of effect to cover everyone.
"If you mess with Yoko, Arata, Kei, Date, Mio, Rose, Sachiko, and Iori, my friends-"
He had to name them all one by one, after all, he wasn't proficient in this skill to give them vague orders and expect them to follow his will.
"I will make sure you all live a life worse than death."
That meant that even if one commits the offence, they will all have joint responsibility. Now, he planted a sense of unease upon the traumatized members. They all began to watch each other closely and became suspicious of the other.
I'll have to get the ones I eliminated later.
Making a mental note to himself, Kai looked into the eyes of the people around him. He didn't really need to plant the seeds of fear into the ones who had nothing to do with the incident today because if they weren't swayed by Adam's influence then there was an even lower chance they'd agree to it in the future because of today's events but it never hurt to be cautious.
With his memory of remembering everything he needed, finding the ones he had fought earlier was simple. Even those eliminated by Yoko and Date are now his targets.
After making sure that the fear was etched deep into them, he blew them away from the ring while retracting the blades leaving only Adam behind.
He activated Mental Pressure while grabbing on Adam's hair.
"Your brother got you into this mess."
Now, to give strife between the brothers. It was a cruel tactic but Kai didn't care.
He lifted Adam's body up and with a loud cracking sound, Kai kicked Adam straight in the chest.
BOOM
The kick was so strong that Adam's chest actually caved in and he had blood dripping from his mouth which was made visible when Adam landed on the wall. He had trouble breathing evident by how he was gripping his chest and gasping for air. He had coughing fits for a good while before losing consciousness.
The next participants resigned before even stepping onto the stage and by the end, Kai won without doing anything else. Even though he hadn't done any intense fights, nobody in the arena today would forget him their entire lives.
Arcane Classroom
Anne was biting her thumb while waiting for Kai. She actually felt nervous this time. The other party was someone who was stronger than her, if he wanted to do something to her, it would be too late for rescue to come.
"Anne."
Kai woke Anne up from her thoughts. She quickly turned to him with vigilance in her eyes.
"Satou Kenji, what business do you have with me?"
Anne spoke while trying to hide the wariness in her voice. Seeing her attitude, Kai wryly laughed while scratching the back of his head.
"Of course you'd be cautious of me. I mean, I have that much power yet I still went undercover, right? Well, that doesn't matter, I'm just here to give you this today."
Kai handed her a red rose which she unconsciously took. They had repeated this exchange a couple of times already so it wasn't a surprise but perhaps it was because she had just been derailed from her train of thoughts, she felt dizzy.
"Bye."
Kai waved without so much as looking back.
"...So it was just that..."
Anne collapsed on her knees and breathed a sigh of relief.

A new arc is about to begin, and I'll start posting again once the entirety is done. It might take a year, but honestly, this story is going to go on for the foreseen future anyway... so I suppose that's just a blip in the grand scheme of things? I'll leave updates here every once in a while, if for some reason you're still actively checking on this incredibly slow story T-T The path of cultivation is often portrayed as one stained by bloodshed. But is that truly necessary? Heaven is merciful, after all. On a rather ordinary day, a peasant girl was whisked away by a strange old man. In a hall of great white jade, she was offered the chance to cultivate. ...too bad she's as lazy as a sloth. Slice of life Xianxia with fairly little action in early chapters, more focused on comedy. Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!

Gray's Crucible
“The value you have brought to trade is immense, more than a thousand fold what any other traveler to Crucible has ever produced. More than even I produced during my journey.” The old man paused for a moment here, seemingly reluctant to continue. After a few seconds he begins again with weariness creeping into his voice. “As the Messenger of Crucible I have received the value of your life. You shall be awarded a body with potential equaling the value you have brought to this place in accordance with the laws of the higher realms. Now you shall depart for Crucible, but first; I, Jaze, will give you some advice.” The old man, Jaze, he had named himself paused a time. Time enough that Gray began to wonder if he was still present, when he suddenly continued in a low and serious tone, “You will undoubtedly have great potential Gray of Earth, but it is still only potential. What could be is not necessarily what will be. If you step foolishly in my world, if you can not live up to the potential you have bartered for, Crucible will crush you mercilessly and tear away your very soul.” A thought, cheerful and light was heard from Gray before his presence was sent rocketing away like a shooting star. “I’m looking forward to it.”
