《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 147: A United Front

Immediately after arriving, the units of Alteria were met with the sight of the capital city of Centrium, Central in the distance.
(A/N: Yeah, they're all just names near the word 'center'.)
But they weren't alone, there were countless soldiers and adventurers near them. Some were even led by members of the council. Aside from the members, only Kai knew all of their faces but in this timeline, he's only seen three faces personally.
At the side of Alteria, Warlock's unit was there throwing suspicious glances at Kai. Before he wore the black armor, he made sure to reveal himself to everyone in the kingdom but the other kingdoms definitely wouldn't realize who he was. Taking that into account, Kai walked up to Warlock who was at the very front alongside Rein.
"It's been awhile."
Removing the hood and taking off his helmet, Kai faced the two of them.
"...So it is you. I was wondering what the king was thinking when they accepted teleportation with magic circles but there were more pressing matters to attend to. I roughly already know but how strong is the Immortal?"
"Even if you take all of the soldiers in this entire area, they would last a few seconds at most."
Warlock sighed.
"I know we're currently fighting against each other but I trust that neither of us would be stupid enough to stab each other in the back at this time?"
"Of course. I'll just say it now but none of the council stand a chance against the Immortal, leave him to my party."
At Kai's words, Warlock raised his brow.
"You're saying that your party is stronger than the council?"
"No, any of you would be enough to kill my party but they're better suited for this situation. I'm the one who'll take the front lines and they'll support me. I'm sure I've informed the other kingdoms about their task, have you heard?"
"For the soldiers, take out the skeletons and ghosts. For the members of the council, take out the high rank undead, Death Knights, was it?"
"The Lesser Liches are also a problem, it would take at least five knights to take out one. Banshees, there are only a few but when they scream, heads would explode due to the sound. Just don't get into their sight or else they'll go berserk and charge at you. Remind everyone as well."
Warlock furrowed his brows.
"How do you know all this? I've heard of these creatures in books and stories but I've never seen them in person. You know what enemies we're facing beforehand, could it be that you've fought the Immortal before?"
"...Technically no but what I say is the truth, go inform everyone through magic."
Without offering any more words, he nodded at Rein and left.
This time, he went to another member of the council. They were pressed for time so instead of walking the distance, he closed in about fifty meters for each step he took. Many were surprised at the sight, Kai moved fast enough that most of the people here couldn't see his movements. To others, he looked like he was teleporting but in reality, he simply exerted force on one foot to propel himself forward and used the other foot to stop creating a short burst of speed.

Flash Step. It sounded simple and all the council members who did close combat could do it but to actually grasp the principles of this technique was insanely difficult. When Kai first used this, he kept breaking the floor beneath him but ever since he gained mastery over his body, exerting force but not releasing any- he was able to achieve Flash Step.
When beings at Kai's level fight, they produce so much power that it wouldn't be strange for a building to collapse with a casual attack, this was why they had to master controlling their power. A perfect example would be when they were children, clashing swords broke the arena beneath them but when Kai fought Wake, both of them used an equal amount of force and kept it within the swords; sparing the area around them from damage.
In truth, Kai's Null Distance Sword employed the Flash Step but laced it with mana. Flash Step was a pure physical technique which could be learned by anyone as long as they had the will to train but when enhanced by mana, it turned into a frightening weapon. Kai didn't use this in his battle against Wake simply because Wake's eyes could grasp Kai's movement, Flash Step would do no good.
No dust and dirt were spread around as Kai kept employing Flash Step. It took him about a minute to reach his destination, another council member.
"Old Fifth, Eleventh will be released soon."
Kai created a barrier of sound as he talked to Seventh, the eldest member of the council."
"Kai, it looks like you've been busy these past couple of years."
"Well, I can't say it's been a smooth ride but I more or less have everything in place. Thanks for convincing the council members."
"I didn't do much, I incited them and Seventh convinced them."
In the other timeline, Seventh wasn't trusted by most of the members, it was the same here. Kai had little interactions with her and all of them were strictly for business. In the other timeline, Kai was closest to Fifth and remembering his good nature, Kai also befriended him here.
"I guess I'll also have to thank her some other day. Let's get down to business."
Kai took on a stern tone to which Fifth nodded.
"I can guarantee you a safe path through the undead but I have no confidence against the ghosts."
Fifth was one of the members of the council who liked going in close instead of attacking from afar. In terms of pure swordsmanship, Rein was better than him but if they were to fight with swords, Rein wouldn't stand a chance. Fifth had both experience and the power of an S-class on his side.
"It would've been better if you had Eleventh released though..."
Eleventh was also an S-class. If he and Kai fought, it was unavoidable for both of them to sustain injuries, the only reason he could deal with Eleventh so easily was because he underestimated Kai. True, he would be a valuable asset to the fight against the Immortal's goons but he wasn't necessary.
Seeing Kai not agreeing with him, Fifth shrugged. The wrinkles on his face relaxed as he removed the cloth from the tip of a pole. His weapon was a guandao, a polearm resembling a glaive. When Kai asked him about this weapon, it was said that this was a family heirloom passed onto them by a traveler who saved them once. Although Kai didn't exactly know what the weapon was called, he knew it wasn't from this world.

It was heavy, weighing at over 60kg. It was modified since a normal guandao wasn't enough for this world and it resulted in the added weight.
"Let's go."
"Ou."
Kai vanished immediately after he agreed and appeared in front of Alteria's units.
"Done?"
Amelia intentionally stayed behind. Erina was beside them preparing.
"Yep."
Kai nonchalantly replied and took out his gun.
"Bang."
"Your naming sense is still bad..."
"Shut up."
As Amelia pointed it out, Kai took a direct hit. That's right, his Enchanted Gear, the gun was called Bang. He named it that way because he says 'bang' a lot, especially when shooting with his gun.
"Couldn't you have named it something like 'Revolving Sun' or since it uses a lot of elements in rounds, 'Round Shooter'."
"Your naming sense is as bad as mine."
"It's nowhere near as bad as yours, dear."
Amelia shook her head with a wry smile and gestured for Kai to continue what he was doing.
Although there were some kingdoms that weren't present, there were still enough units to surround Central from all directions. The representatives of each kingdom were aware what the signal for attack was.
Kai raised his arm that held the gun and pointed it at the sun.
As if rehearsed, the gates to Central opened and released thousands upon thousands of undead. Inside the king's palace, the Immortal, Fate Shion looked outside while holding a blue rose in his hand.
"Strange. Nobody was in the capital when I arrived and now, millions of soldiers gathered? I sent the blue roses as a means of alerting them but to think that they even knew where I was going... Soul."
"Yes."
A figure clad in black shadows appeared.
"You've been gathering husks of bodies for me to turn into undead but your pace has slowed down considerably since two or three months ago, what happened?"
"A new S-class found my trail. I managed to escape by using the escape technique you taught me."
"...I see. No wonder you slowed down, without a means to escape then it'll be dangerous. No matter, there are enough skeletons that I've stored over the years."
Once over a hundred thousand skeletons got out of the capital, Kai fired a shot. The beam of light raced towards the sky at an insane speed before exploding directly above the capital.
"[Light Rain]."
The light split apart and became pointed, large arrows of light rained down and destroyed the undead with explosions of light.
Kai could use light but not to the extent he could use the other elements but it was enough to destroy the undead.
The rain of light only lasted a few minutes but over half of the undead were killed. The kingdoms took this as the sign and charged forward with vigor. Fifth's unit began to head toward Kai's unit.
"Warlock, Lesser Liches."
"No need to remind me."
Using telepathy, Kai instructed Warlock who began casting fire spells to destroy the liches from afar. If the skeletons were the knights, then the liches were the mages and commanders. Luckily, they were only lesser liches. A normal lich would be able to raise dead bodies while greater liches could wipe out a town.
It took about a minute of running for them to reach the first line of the undead who kept pouring out of the gates.
All of them were enhanced humans, distance spanning an entire town was nothing to them.
Kai summoned his Scythe, Lightbane and began cutting off the heads of every skeleton in his path. Amelia used darkness to summon tendrils and impaled skeleton after skeleton. Erina dropped giant blocks of ice on different parts of the battlefield and sometimes summoned pillars to crush a large amount.
The four members of Memento Mori, Kei, Date, Kazuki, and Arata were conserving their mana and only attacked undead that were near. Umi used organic water magic- life which was the natural enemy of undead to cut large numbers of them with ease. Yoko departed from the rest and began cutting through undead like swiss cheese. Natsumi shot arrow after arrow with each one killing tens of them.
Seeing this scene, anyone who saw it could only say one thing: amazing.
Arata ran faster and got in front of Kai, then he pushed his shield forward.
"[Unstoppable Fortress]!"
Arata roared as a giant square barrier expanded around his shield. Then, with insane vigor, he pushed away every undead in front of him like he was a truck. Kei took that as an opportunity to use some of his magic.
"[Flame Dragon]!"
Thrusting his sword forward, a flame dragon emerged from his sword and swallowed the undead whole and melting them. Yoko, seeing the opportunity to go back slashed apart every undead around her and got back into formation.
Kai rested his scythe and let everyone else fight but he stopped Erina and Amelia from wasting too much mana, they were his trump cards.
Date took Kai's left and Kazuki took Kai's right, they were substitutes for Erina and Amelia who stopped attacking. Their formation was a V formation with Arata leading the front and Kai directly behind him. Natsumi had a dagger on one hand and sliced apart anyone that came near, Angie also trained her in this manner.
But even though they were piercing through the undead like nothing, they were still far from the capital's gates. At that moment, Fifth and five other people carrying polearms met up with their party.
"Kai!"
"Got it! Arata, fall back!"
Arata immediately heeded Kai's words and jumped back and let Fifth and the other five people take the front. Fifth held the guandao while the five held glaives. They pointed their polearms forward and all casted magic.
""""""Pierce!""""""
A single word created devastation. Hundreds of undead were blown away by the sheer power of their polearms. They were positioned side to side and protected quite an area.
"Date, Kazuki!"
Both of them didn't need instructions, they got behind the six and chopped up any undead that got through their formation. In addition to the six, their pace increased even further, they were a fourth of the way there.
Kai couldn't use teleportation to teleport into the capital, if the Immortal were to sense it, they'd be in a whole load of trouble.
At that moment, Kai took out his gun.
"[Rend]."
