《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 128: Unrestrained Speed

Kai looked around and sensed that there wasn't a single soul in the area, human, animal, or monster.
Time to go all-out.
Kai chose a random direction and took a running pose. Then, he kicked the floor and vanished from his spot with a boom. This wasn't just Mach speed, it was twice over. The trees that were in his way were knocked down by his tough body and any sources of water could just be stepped on.
At Kai's current speed, he would take roughly half an hour to travel the surface of Earth but this planet seemed different, it was larger, many times larger. Kai has enough processing ability to completely remember his previous places with frighteningly accurate details, even though he had traveled for an hour, he can't see any familiar landscapes and it seems he's not even halfway through the world.
A normal person stuck here would probably choose to live here while migrating, it may take their entire lives but they could hope about finding the gate. The gate had a unique aura around it, it had the same aura as the voice and that helped as a sensor. If Kai was at least 50 kilometers from it, he would feel it but it would be faint and almost unnoticeable. That meant that if Kai couldn't sense it and already pass it, he may very well have to circle around the world again before sensing it again.
Kai wasn't shocked by how large the world was and continued on. But soon, a crushing pressure began to cover the world and Kai's speed was reduced drastically, he went from Mach 2 to Mach 1 then even lower until he was at a normal human's running speed. But that wasn't because of the increase in gravity, it was because Kai stopped himself.
"Twenty? No... Fifty times Earth's gravity."
Kai trained in gravity for a while and could sense how heavy it is compared to Earth's. But this wasn't enough to hinder him in the least, he could stay in twenty times the gravity with barely a C-class body, now he had an S-class body. At most, the gravity would give him trouble when waking up but Kai knew that even if the gravity doubled, he would have no problems.

Strangely though, the trees, the water, or any other item in the world was unaffected, as if they had long since adapted to this insane gravitational pull. Kai even picked up a tree and found that the weight wasn't affected at all.
"If I could take out the things from this world, I could create new weapons."
But sadly, once Kai let go of the tree, it disappeared and appeared back at its previous spot. Even when he tried putting it in his pendant, it vanished without a trace. Kai drank from a random pond, it didn't disappear but when he tried keeping it in his pendant using a container, it vanished.
"An illusion, then."
Kai stretched himself to adapt to the gravity better and began running, the instant he stomped the ground, it collapsed and his body launched so fast that he disappeared from his spot and appeared a kilometer away, that was a second. The trees in his previous area began bending but weren't broken.
"[Body Enhancement: Maximum Output], [Limiter Off]."
The moment he used his techniques, Kai's speed multiplied many times over. At his initial acceleration, he went three times the speed of sound in an instant then his speed continuously rose until he was fast enough to reach ten times. At that point, Kai's real eye couldn't process the information with much detail and had to rely on his other eye. Although it was true that he could knock away most things, a single misstep would make him fall into a ravine or a cliff, he needed to use his eye so that he could see things like those from far away and respond according to the situation.
But other than the speed, he also had to mind the feeling of the gate. It wasn't a laughing matter if he were to miss it, if this world was only as large as Earth, then Kai could've missed it and returned with no problems but even now, he hasn't reached the place he had started even though he had ran straight. Running over water, jumping over ravines, gliding in the air, he did many forms of travel all at a speed ten times that of sound. His body was creaking but by continuously healing himself and replenishing the mana used by healing while running, his body was breaking and repairing with each passing instant.

A normal person would have long since given out to the pain but not a single look of pain was on his face, it was as if he was simply running. Simply suffering continuous pain was already unbearable but to heal a wound only to open it again was an even worse feeling. Kai's bones were cracking and mending themselves.
As Kai continued his state, the amount of time it took his body to break overcame the speed of healing so he had to stop himself. He began healing his wounds as he breathed out a sigh. It took five minutes but he had finally reached the place he had started from. That meant he could increase the radius of his next search farther but even with that, if he were unlucky then he may as well spend months or years in this world to cover the entire surface area- if it was above ground. Kai didn't even want to think about what would happen if it was underground or under the ocean.
But this world wasn't cruel, there were many clues and although this trial heavily relies on the luck of the person, it wasn't everything. Soon, Kai sensed a soul and immediately changed his course while marking his previous location in his memories. During his insane speed, Kai kicked the floor in front of him once which sent his forward acceleration to a stop and made him began to fly backwards but just as he did that, he used his other foot to kick opposite the direction of the soul. It happened in an instant and when viewed from above, the only thing that could be seen was a dust cloud suddenly making an insanely steep turn. Though the dust was actually many times slower than Kai and he was already more than fifty kilometers away.
In less than half a minute, Kai reached the place where he sensed the soul. In the first place, the range of his [Soul Call] reached from one side of the Alteria Kingdom's capital to the other when exerted to its limits. When Kai arrived, there was an old man in a ragged clothing full of holes and tears. The clothes he wore were evidently very old and worn out but they didn't look like they would easily break.
"...In times of old, many were summoned to resist evil. For the weak humans, they summoned a strong member of their own kind from different worlds. For the demons, they gave a demon the power of a demon king through a ritual. For the elves, they choose the wisest and nurture them. But even though there are many of these champions, there are some who are strong enough to threaten the hierarchy of the Gods and Supreme Beings."
The old man's hoarse voice was eerie but his words held a certain power to them that made one believe him unconditionally. The old man then pointed to a direction and closed his eyes as he let out his last breath. Kai didn't hesitate and ran in the direction the old man pointed to.
If it was that easy, Kai wouldn't even take a day... that's what he hoped at least. Even after a day running at ten times the speed of sound, there were no souls or any fluctuations that he could sense. But it was evident that each and every place had been to was different from the last.
Soon though, he found that his speed was suddenly limited and he was forced to stop. It wasn't because of gravity, he was just forced to stop by some unknown power. It was then that from the shadows of the trees, many figures stepped out. They were very familiar figures for Kai but it seemed different. The figures that were as if they were cut from outer space walked out but had no weapons. These figures were like animals and produced a variety of sounds that couldn't be deciphered.
Kai tapped his pendant but it didn't react, Kai immediately broke off a tree branch and enchanted it. Although it looked like it was on the verge of breaking, Kai held it with confidence. The beast figures immediately leapt towards Kai.

The Fall of The Gods
Synopsis: In the year 1966, an army of Orishas led by Sango stormed Amadioha’s palace and razed it the ground, starting a decades-long war between two of Nigeria’s most powerful divine orders. Blinded by the rage of battle, the gods did not detect the rise of a third power, far greater and deadlier than anything they could have imagined. When gods, on both the Yoruba and Igbo sides, begin falling mysteriously to their death, Sango seeks the help of Odion, a Lagos teenager destined to rise from his dark past to become a hero. But can a human hero save the gods from a doomed fate? The Fall of the Gods is an action-packed YA fantasy based on the mythical bond that ties human life with the realm of the divine. It demonstrates the power of stories to change our lives. It also reminds us that Sango and Amadioha are not relics of the past and that, sometimes, what it means to be a hero in today’s world is knowing how to find inspiration in the stories of the gods. PLEASE NOTE: Weekly chapters will be released every friday along with interludes once in a while about Nigerian mythology. I'm a young 17 year old writer and I am new to the site so I will appreciate your comments and reviews. Thank you very much.
