《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 122: The Council Makes a Move

In the middle of a garden, Kai sat cross-legged and had his hands rested on his lap. The grass and flowers swayed because of the strong wind. It was like a storm without rain around Kai.
"It's too strong..."
Kai had a drop of sweat falling down his forehead. He opened his eyes and saw the grass around him had all laid flat as if they had no life. On Kai's palm, a green light glowed which illuminated the area and soon after, all the plants stood up full of life.
Just as he was about to sit back down once more, an electric shock passed through him and with the fastest speed he could muster, he kicked the floor and traveled at the speed of sound towards the capital's gates. While Kai was traveling, the surrounding people were alerted at the booms coming from him so he jumped as high as he could.
"[Flight]."
In the sky, Kai traveled as fast as mach two and reached the capital's gates in a minute. Without care for his landing speed, Kai dropped down and created a massive crater where he landed.
There, two people stood in front of a huge army wearing armor of two different colors.
A man wearing a violet suit and top hat while holding a cane stood beside a man who looked to be in his forties wearing knight armor.
"Eighth of the council, to think I would have the honor of meeting you in person."
Kai appeared calm while wearing his black trench coat.
"You look exactly as we've heard. Kai, youngest S-class and also the strongest in Alteria Kingdom, we've come here to take you under jurisdiction of the council for the disappearance of council member, Eleventh."
Looks like they finally found a legal reason to detain me. Cthulhu is better than I thought, to actually stall them for a whole month and then some.
"I see... What happens if I don't want to go?"
"Then, we'll take you by force."
The man in knight armor said so while brandishing his great sword.
The man wearing knight armor was Eighth's personal knight and also dubbed the strongest swordsman in the continent, Rein.
Kai furrowed his brows.
I don't want to face the Sword Emperor and the Warlock alone at the same time. I've heard that they fight so well together that they could fight in a battlefield with just the two of them but I've got no choice.
Kai kicked the floor and charged forward.
"Hooh~ Looks like you've got guts."
Kai retrieved a sword from his pendant, it was black metal with a luster of violet. It wasn't made of SK metal, it was the nameless metal that Kai used for his arm and leg. Right now, he was wearing a skin to cover his arm and leg, he could fool the people in the capital by saying it was just armor but he couldn't fool the two S-class who've lived fighting battles. The sword was about the same length as a long sword but thinner and sharper.

"HAAAAAAAAA!"
Rein swung his great sword from the side to achieve the maximum strength possible but Kai didn't care and simply used his sword to block.
"Your swordsmanship is unpolished, must be a self-taught style. Too bad, you won't be able to defeat me like tha-!"
Kai wasn't sent flying like Rein thought but instead, all the damage from his swing was dispersed as if it was never there but as expected of a swordsman who's lived his life honing his battle senses, he immediately used a new stance and used a straight kick which forced Kai to step back.
"Naive!"
Rein jumped backwards tens of meters in an instant and from behind him, a giant fireball came rushing towards Kai.
"[Reflect]."
Kai swung his sword but instead of the fireball exploding, it was pushed back like a tennis ball being hit by a racket towards Rein.
"?!"
Rein was alarmed but quickly defended himself using his great sword.
BOOM
"T-this is...?!"
Rein looked at the explosion created by the fireball that he blocked and couldn't believe his eyes. Warlock was the same, no matter how much he thought about it, his fireball shouldn't have had that much power.
"How did it produce that much strength?"
Rein readied his great sword once more and looked to Warlock for an inquiry.
"I have no idea, it produced at least twice as much force as it should actually have. Even if I were to expend more mana, I'm not sure if I could make a simple fireball that strong."
(A/N: I may or may not change this in past chapters but for future chapters, I'll try to not encase the spells in [ ] if they aren't being used.)
"Then, are you telling he me took it, doubled its power, and launched it back towards us in the instant he slashed?!"
Warlock clutched his cane while preparing another spell.
I refuse to believe that such a technique uses only a bit of his mana!
"[Fire Rain]!"
Warlock pointed his Cane at the sky and an arrow of fire shot towards the clouds and disappeared. After a second or two, dozens of arrows fell, then two dozen, then half a hundred, a hundred, until there were as many fire arrows as there were raindrops in a light rain.
Kai didn't panic and swung his sword from the back into an arc above him. The flame arrows that were hit were reflected and hit towards Warlock but not all of them were dispersed. Like water pouring down on the shell of a turtle, the flame arrows didn't hit Kai.
Kai's left eye changed into that of his magic eye.
"[Dismantle]."
Warlock blocked the arrows that had headed his way.

The power wasn't doubled, I was right! That narrows it down to two possibilities, he can't reflect multiple attacks at once or he can only use it at an interval. He has more than enough mana to counter anything on the same level as the fireball, if he could counter my fire rain, then he could've done so easily.
The land outside the capital was on fire, Kai expelled a strong gust of wind from his body and extinguished the flames in an instant.
Warlock raised his brow.
Wind expelling fire?
"[Fireball]!"
Three small balls of fire formed in front of the cane as he pointed it at Kai. The three balls of fire then launched out and rapidly grew in size as it neared Kai.
Kai swung his sword at the three fireballs that came at the same time.
"[Reflect]."
The fireballs all paused for a moment before launching in three different directions, two towards Rein and Warlock, and the last one headed for the army behind them.
Rein calmly stood waiting for the fireball to hit him and just when it was about three meters from him, his sword vanished and cut the fireball in half, it exploded into two parts towards his side and left himself unscathed.
Warlock was ready and fired a straight line of flames to make the fireball explode, he then blocked the remaining embers with a barrier.
Six mages created six barriers enough to block the fireball but in the end, was still futile. That was the power of an S-class' fireball strengthened twice. The army suffered major damage though part of the fireball had already been weakened by the layers of barriers.
"I don't really want to damage the capital so what do you say we change battlefields?"
Kai snapped his fingers and a giant magic circle glowed from underneath them all.
Rein jumped back towards Warlock and the latter provided a barrier for the two of them and the army.
Just as the knights from inside the capital were about to head outside, Kai and the council vanished into thin air, leaving behind only the flames that had burned the floor.
"Large-scale teleportation...?!"
Rein looked around to see his surroundings and analyzed the situation. Warlock furrowed his brows.
"Teleportation is an ancient magic last used by the hero of old in Athens! How did this man manage to find a magic circle and manipulate it?!"
Forgetting that it was a secret, Warlock expressed his shock but quickly used another spell to attack Kai. A bright orange flame sprouted from the cane and then shot as a beam towards the sky.
"[Explosive Arrow Rain]!"
Like the previous move, fire rain, an uncountable amount of fire arrows fell from the sky but the amount was visibly lesser than fire rain.
"That's quite dangerous, huh. [Dismantle]. [Reflect]."
A peculiar scene happened, just as Kai's sword touched one of the arrows, every arrow that headed towards him was suddenly aimed at Warlock.
"[Explosion Wave]!"
Warlock swung his cane and sparks ignited as a giant explosion sparked and blew up each arrow in the air which created a massive shockwave.
"[Shockwave]."
A large ball of wind flew out from Kai's hand, it looked so unstable as if it was about to explode at any second.
The ball of wind exploded but damaged nobody, the heat in the air disappeared and was replaced with an uncomfortable feeling, as if something was in the air.
Kai kicked the floor and vanished from his spot, Warlock used a whip made of flames to try and catch Kai but the moment the flames ignited, sparks flew.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
A bit of a distance away, Kai activated a magic circle and teleported.
Kai reappeared at Angelina's mansion.
"Angie, I'm going to have to leave the kingdom for a bit. During that time, none of you will have any way to communicate with me so work together with Erina and Amelia, I won't tell them since they'll think of ways to come with me no matter the cost. You're the same but I know that you wouldn't dare disobey me-"
"""..."""
Kai closed his eyes, rubbed them, then opened them again. In front of him were three girls in towels, Angelina, Erina, and Amelia. By their wet hair and look, it was evident that they had just finished taking a bath.
"Thank you for the meal."
Kai bowed down towards the three.
"P-pervert!"
Erina yelled out as her towel fell. Amelia and Angelina were flushed but only hid themselves. Rather, Amelia had no need to become flushed because she and Kai were already in an intimate relationship.
Erina crouched down and hid herself with her hands as Kai continued to stare. Amelia sighed and covered Kai's eyes while simultaneously pressing her breasts against his back.
"Kai, I know that you've yet to see Erina fully naked until today but do realize that she's already at her limit. And, we're going to have to talk about that little trip of yours."

A-Live AI
The year is 2247. For almost two hundred years Sentient AI research has been banned. Everyone knew this, and yet no one has ever given up on finding the perfect setup for it. Restricted AI are rare, but possible to get ahold of if you have the money and the clout to get through the law for it. Especially when it deals with the military. Alfred Homis is an engineer and has spent the last three years working for the United Terran Military's Research and Exploration Department. Specifically to help build a 'shackled' AI who's prime directive was to explore potentially habitable worlds. Worlds that are far cheaper to colonize and add to the United Terran Directorate's fold than terraforming. During the AI's maiden voyage things go horribly wrong, taking Alfred Homis along for the ride. Thrown into a parallel universe where the laws of physics are just a little messed up, Alfred finds himself trapped inside the very machine he'd helped to build. Add magic, hostile fantasy creatures, and two different pantheons of 'Gods' to the mix and things get even more complicated. Oh, and an invasion between universes to boot. But that's just all in a days work though for Alfred, the AI Lord. Authors Note: Hi guys! Long time no see. And yes, I know that's all on me. But I blame life for that. Anyway, this is my new work, and I hope you guys enjoy it! The chapters are a little shorter than I'd previously posted in my other stories, but I cannot say that I have the same amount of time or energy to write them like that anymore. Sorry about that. Still, some warnings: There is cursing in this story. I am not going to edit it out. There will be sexual content later. Blood, gore and cruel depictions are all planned. If that isn't your thing, I'd suggest you turn back now. There is also my dry, and often not-so-funny sense of humor. And oh, it's all in first person gain. Haha. I just tend to write better that way. If none of that bothers you, then enjoy the read! Feel free to comment, point out mistakes, or make suggestions! Reviews are nice too, but please lay off the criticism until the story gets good and going. Thank you. Note 1: Some edits to the synopsis.

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
