《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 113: Dragon Slaying Isn't Easy

Amber Mountain, Cave
Angelina went in with a group of knights and mages. They had three to cast offensive spells and two to heal them. Chanting wasn't necessary when using a spell but charging mana was, three mages would need to provide a lot of mana under the pressure of the dragon so knights are necessary. Knights are also human so a healer was necessary to heal them of their injuries no matter how minor.
"Light the way."
Angelina commanded the mages, the cave wasn't lit and even with their enhanced eyesight, they couldn't see through pitch black darkness. But they had no luxury to find someone with a light attribute which was even more rare than darkness. The mages pointed their staves towards the darkness and cast a simple spell, [Torch]. They all had fire as one of their attributes.
The tips of the staves ignited and without a sound, they shot out to form an arcing line while leaving trails of embers. Soon, the darkness was lit and the flames landed on the other side of the cave while simultaneously disappearing. But the flames lit up the one thing they wanted to see the most, the dragon.
So far, only the scales of the tail could be seen, it appeared to be sleeping.
"...Everyone, fall back. We need quite a few earth mages to reduce the amount of rocks that will collapse when this thing wakes up."
Now, they had to retreat. The dragon was larger than Angelina predicted and if it rampages, it will definitely bring down the top of the mountain. The dragon had brown scales which meant that it uses earth, unlike humans, dragons can only use a single element- save for two, the Dragon King, and the Dragon Queen. Though they were titled king and queen, they weren't married. The titles were given to those who boasted the largest amount of power among the dragons.
A high-class dragon was SS-class but the Dragon King and Queen were at a level that even the Gods and highest ranked demons fear them. If they were to try and wipe out humanity, it wouldn't even take a day even with Kai's help. Dragons were creatures that can fly over a speed of Mach 10 and have power enough to match 500 megatons. Of course, only a few dragons had reached this level.
The Dragon King and Queen were two people who had that much power and the past Dragon Kings and Queens held the same amount of power. Dragons had the third highest lifespan in the world, excluding immortals like Gods and 5th stage demons. The race that boasted the highest lifespan were the pixies, then the elves, and finally the dragons.

Just as Angelina was retreating, the scales on the dragon moved.
Shit.
Angelina inwardly cursed and then pulled out her sword.
"Fall back and tell everyone to prepare for battle! The dragon's estimated height is at fifteen meters and wing span of a thirty on each side! I'll hold it off until everyone prepares!"
The mages heeded her words but the knights stayed beside her, if it stands up, the cave would definitely still be fine and even a small-scale battle would work but the moment it fully spreads it wings and uses a breath attack, the cave would collapse.
The dragon stood up slowly, its back menacingly facing Angelina and the knights. It turned around and opened its slit amber eyes. Most of the dragons in this world were western-styled dragons from Earth.
"Humans, you've made the foolish mistake of going into my home. All of you will die here today."
For the knights, they heard nothing but Angelina spoke the ancient language.
""
The knights didn't understand what Angelina just yelled at the dragon but it proved to be effective even in their eyes because the dragon spread its wings by half and generated an air of ferocity. To a proud and mighty race like the dragon, calling them a winged lizard was the greatest insult.
"I WILL KILL YOU!"
""
Angelina used the element of water while the dragon had earth. It was obvious to who held the advantage but Angelina was the same as Kai, she had undergone trials before. Kai wasn't bound with the elemental advantage rule because he could control all elements but Angelina was different, she could only use water and fire. In this case where the dragon could use earth, she was only limited to fire attacks.
The dragon stepped forward and swung its talon with its front leg. Angelina used her sword to alter its trajectory towards the floor near her. The dragon's talon crushed into the floor and Angelina ran towards the dragon's body.
"Dragon Slayer Art: Pulverize!"
Angelina used the tip of her sword and stabbed it into the scale of the dragon. Normally, a sword would snap because a dragon's scales were one of the best materials for armor but Angelina's sword was made out of dragon bones and of the strongest metal in the world.
The sword stopped at the outer shell of the scale, it wouldn't prove fatal for the dragon at all but Angelina's attack was special

The dragon roared in pain and used its other talon to send Angelina flying. Dragons were abnormally tough on the outside but the amount of protection they have inside their body was about the same as a human's. Pulverize was a special technique taught to her by Kai, it uses a physical move which compresses the magic power into the medium and sends it outwards in condensed form. A dragon's scales had very tiny openings between each one and pulverize took advantage of it.
When mastered to its peak, it could even make a high-class dragon explode with enough mana. Kai was at the level where he could instantly make a low-class dragon explode with it.
At the time when Angelina was sent flying, the knights moved. They had overcome their fears of facing a mid-class dragon, although the dragon was terrifying, they were knights. They couldn't very well leave a girl not even in her twenties to fight alone, could they?
"Die!"
"For the kingdom!"
"Over here!"
The knights provoked the dragon as they neared from several directions. The dragon didn't even flinch as it rotated and swung its tail which sent all of the knights flying, some even died instantly. But the knights didn't let this get them down, they knew that by charging forward, they were sending themselves to their deaths, they had prepared themselves.
"Haaa!"
Angelina emerged from the wall and swung her sword above the dragon.
"Dragon Slayer Art: Sensory Confusion."
The dragon that had raised its head to chomp on Angelina was shocked to see her disappear. But how could a beast that has lived for thousands of years be so stupid? It quickly checked each and every area that Angelina could be hiding and even used its power of earth to sense the floor but to no avail.
Just then, a large sound alerted the dragon as it roared in pain.
"Y-YOU HUMAN, YOU DARE TO CUT OFF MY TAIL?!"
The loud sound that the dragon heard was the sound of half of its tail falling down on the floor after being cut. The dragon's amber eyes glowed and it raised its head while sucking up huge amounts of air. Angelina knew what was happening, it was the dragon's most powerful attack, a breath.
"[Jet Stream]!"
It was her fastest attack even if it used water. It quickly hit the bottom of the dragon's mouth.
"[Fireball]!"
Just as the dragon was delayed, a [Fireball] arrived and exploded.
BOOM.
The breath was stopped, it had to open its mouth and was forced to release its breath attack. But the dragon quickly resumed it at an even faster pace than before and soon, it pointed its head towards Angelina.
"Dragon Slayer Art: Vanishing Step."
Angelina vanished from her spot and appeared at another, it repeated several times until she arrived behind the dragon. It was a technique specifically designed to dodge dragons who had trouble moving around. But as expected, a beast who's lived over thousands of years, giant earth spikes appeared from the floor behind it and forced Angelina to stop.
The dragon used that instant to turn its body just enough for its head to be in front of Angelina.
"Enchanted Gear: Drake!"
The armor's name was drake because Kai had gotten it from a mid-class fire dragon. The armor had the ability to weaken breath attacks significantly.
CLANK CLANK CLANK DING
The sound of the pebbles, dust, and rocks mixed into the breath that moved like a tornado crashed into Angelina's armor. It was a very deadly move towards organic beings, rocks being moved at the speed of a tornado would kill anyone but Angelina emerged from the breath attack with only cuts and wounds, none of which were fatal.
Angelina leapt away as she looked at the state of her armor.
"...It can only withstand four more breaths at most. Master, did you intentionally give me weak armor as a trial...? You didn't even tell me it was a mid-class..."
Angelina complained to Kai at the capital not knowing that Kai could go help her at any second because he was right next to the mountain.
Armor no matter how enchanted was still armor, it had its limits. A normal piece of steel armor would have long since been ripped to shreds under that breath attack.
Angelina repositioned her sword and pointed it at the dragon.
