《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 76: A Reunion Under Different Circumstances

Two days had passed since the man named Satou Kenji had enrolled in the Royal Magic Academy yet many things have changed. The Dark Queen, Yoko who was known for her unrivaled close quarters and beauty was defeated by the transfer student in a spar. Though it wasn't an official match, witnesses said that Yoko was defeated in a single hit.
And then the second news, the Ice Queen, Erina who was known for her outstanding magic ability on the level of the royal family and beauty levels higher than Yoko was searching for this transfer student. These two were the pride of the Royal Magic Academy, the Queens.
Although it wasn't an official title, it was an unspoken rule between all the students, never mess with either of the queens. There were even myths going around that when a noble who was pampered by his parents saw Erina, he immediately tried to court her. That noble was frozen in ice and his family was pressured to the point that they dropped a rank in aristocracy.
And Yoko who had beauty second only to Erina was also hit on by a noble, although she was born a commoner, she didn't care for the consequences and beat the noble black and blue. She also traumatized that noble to the point that he shivered everytime a woman talked to him and when Yoko is near, he runs away at the fastest speed. Needless to say, Yoko never saw that noble again.
But the situation right now was evidently strange.
"It's good to see you again."
Erina greeted Yoko with crossed arms while supporting her chest, her face was expressionless. There were two reasons why she was crowned Ice Queen, she uses ice magnificently and her temperament was cold and detached then her hair also turned silver. Yoko was crowned Dark Queen simply because her hair was black and she uses darkness.
Everyone was having a heated discussion about the meeting of the two who at the door of Yoko's classroom. Kenji had his arms behind his head while seated and looked at the two calmly. On the other hand, Haru was panicking beside Yoko.
Haru was the only one Yoko had told about her relationship with Erina. It wasn't the wisest choice seeing as Haru was weak under pressure but she was one of her most trusted friends. Yoko knows that even if Haru is interrogated about this, she won't spill anything, that's the kind of girl Haru is.

"I can't say the same."
Yoko stared at Erina's eyes. Another reason why Yoko didn't want to become friends with Erina again, her eyes were empty. Everytime Yoko looked at them, even if Erina spoke words of pity, no light would return in her eyes. It's as if she had become a puppet who had lost her emotions.
Erina's voice also had no tone to it.
Everyone in the classroom could feel the pressure emitting from the two's conversation. These two girls are the strongest students in the entire school.
"So, why have you come here?"
Yoko had no expression her face but her eyes held a different stance.
"First, to greet you. And second, because of that transfer student, I'm a bit curious you see."
It was evident from Erina's tone that she had put on hold trying to befriend Yoko. Before this, she had tried several times before but Yoko had just rejected her bluntly. Everyone aside from Haru who knows the two's relationship was curious about this but prying into the lives of not one but two of the queens is equal to commiting suicide in this school.
When Erina asked about the transfer student, everyone looked at Kenji.
"I see, so it's that one."
Yoko sighed and stepped aside and let Erina enter the room.
Erina walked normally up the stairs and right next to Kenji who still had his arms behind his back. Erina leaned in and Yoko instantly panicked.
"W-what are you doing?"
Yoko had followed behind Erina and asked cautiously, Kenji seemed to not care at all.
"So it is you, Kai."
Erina spread open her arms and hugged Kenji, his face was enveloped between Erina's breasts. This time, Kenji couldn't afford to ignore her and immediately retreated.
Many girls in the room instantly began yelling 'kyaa' 'kyaa' at the sudden development. On the other hand, the boys were fuming with rage. But Yoko didn't care about any of that, her pupils contracted and she began trembling.
"Don't just suddenly hug me."
Kenji stood up and scratched his head.
"Kai...?"
Yoko asked with a shivering voice.
"I'm sorry but I'm not Kai. I'm guessing you recognize his smell or placed a spell on him but I can say for certain, I am not Kai."

But he didn't deny that he knew of Kai. Erina pouted in displeasure.
"You're trying to fool me? There's no way I could mistake Kai for someone else."
Saying this, an [Ice Blade] formed in Erina's hands, it was a rapier with thorn-like defenses. Erina thrust out with her rapier at lightning speed, nobody except Yoko could react. But Kenji's eyes flashed.
Kenji ran forward and narrowly dodged the rapier then his elbow hand burst into flames as he aimed it at Erina's neck.
The spectators were holding their breaths, Yoko and Haru too.
"Like I said, you're definitely Kai."
"And like I said, I'm not."
Kenji retracted his hand and put out the flames. Erina's rapier shattered and the leftover pieces couldn't be seen, it was as if it vanished into smoke.
Erina smiled at Kenji and at Yoko then began to walk away.
As she reached the door, she stopped and turned around.
"If word of this spreads to the teachers or other classes, I'll know."
Yoko stood there speechless for a few seconds.
"It's the first time I've seen her smile in six years..."
She muttered, only Kenji had heard it.
This is going to be a pain. Kenji thought to himself.
"Someone tell the teacher that I had stomach pains or whatever, I'm heading out."
Kenji told some of the students and ran for the door. Then he ran on the opposite side that Erina went.
"Ah- wait!"
Yoko tried to stop him, she wanted to ask a lot of questions.
"Me too, Haru cover for me!"
Yoko somersaulted from her spot to reach the bottom of the stairs as fast as possible and ran for the door at breakneck speed.
"Stop right there!"
Yoko yelled at Kenji who was obviously sprinting away from her.
Kenji turned at every possible corner but he was at a disadvantage from Yoko who had been in this school longer.
Just as Yoko had almost cornered Kenji, he jumped out of the window and rolled down. The windows had levers in the middle and all had one to do was rotate it to open the windows.
Kenji didn't run away from the gate but rather went for the practice field. Yoko was bewildered with his attitude but kept her pursuit.
Once they arrived there, Kenji stopped his steps.
Yoko was only a few seconds behind him and arrived there, neither of them were out of breath.
"You give up?"
Kenji snapped his fingers and flames rose up from his position. Yoko had lost sight of him and when the flames dispersed, he was gone.
"Damn it."
Yoko cursed, if Kenji was really Kai or at least knew where Kai was, Yoko would definitely get the information out of him.
Although it's true that Yoko didn't want to hurt Kai because of Emi who was in her custody, she at least wanted to ask Kai a question.
At the same cafe from before, Kenji sat down and ordered two cups of tea. A few minutes later, Kai arrived and soon followed the tea.
"So she found out?"
Kai asked first but Kenji shook his head.
"No, Yoko was only suspicious but Erina..."
Kai raised his brows.
"I see, so she must've sensed something from you. Although I've been with Akane longer, for some reason Erina has this way of figuring out who and where I am."
Kenji placed his elbows on the table and intertwined his fingers.
"We have to do plan C."
"Hm? Why skip plan B?"
Kenji shook his head.
"Yoko is impossible to convince now. She may hate Erina but she doesn't distrust her. If Erina was convinced that I am Kai, then she is also."
Kai placed a hand on his chin and nodded several times.
"Got it. I'll throw them off your tail."
"I appreciate it."
Kenji shook hands with Kai and left first. It was the opposite scene from yesterday.
"If she had that much of a reaction towards Kenji, then how would she react towards me?"
A slight smile crept up on Kai's face as he sipped his tea and left the money. Then he left the cafe and headed towards the direction of the biggest building in the capital, the castle.
"This is quite the trouble, it happened much earlier than I had anticipated."
Kai sighed and increased his pace.
