《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 60: Catching Up? No, Eating.

Kai slept peacefully and decided to stroll around the clan. But he wasn't going alone- no, he can't go alone. If he did go alone, he'd be in for a lot of trouble later. Specifically from Akane.
Akane's house was the closest to Kai and next was Yoko's. The patriarch's mansion was quite far and so Erina would take a bit more time to head here. But they had already made a plan yesterday, Kai and Akane would pick up Yoko and Erina would meet up with them after half an hour due to business.
"Hey, Kai."
Akane arrived in a one piece dress and waved at Kai.
"Yo, let's go."
Kai raised his hand in response and stood up. They both began walking towards Yoko's house.
"Still, what class are you at now?"
Last night, Kai only spoke vaguely by saying that he could mop the floor with them.
Akane and Yoko were already at the peak of E-class due to being trained by Erina. But Erina refrained from telling them her actual level too. They estimate that she's about C-class. But both Yoko and Akane think that Kai is stronger but without them fighting, they wouldn't be able to tell.
They were overwhelmed by Kai's [Heaven-rending Palm] and [Rend]. Erina hadn't shown them a skill of that level before but they assume she's probably at that level too.
"Well, let's just say that I'm somewhere above D-class."
Akane pouted.
"You used to tell me everything!"
Kai smiled wryly.
"I only told you stuff that you didn't understand not secrets."
"Boo!"
Akane made noises to complain to Kai as they arrived at Yoko's house.
Yoko stepped out of the door... also with a one piece. In fact, it looked nearly identical to Akane's one piece was Kai's opinion.
"You two must be quite close to buy nearly identical clothes."
Kai told them but for some reason, he felt like a shadow loomed over their heads for a split-second.
"So, shall we go?"
Kai pointed behind him with his thumb over his shoulder.
Yoko quickly walked towards them and kicked Kai's leg.
"Ouch."
Yoko walked off to the direction Kai pointed at. Kai looked at Akane in wonder.
Yoko walked faster and kicked the same leg that Akane had kicked before catching up to her.
"Ouch! Girls sure are strange. Erina actually saved me the trouble by being mature."
In his opinion, Erina acted mature for her age and that saved him the trouble. These two were still actual children and Kai had trouble trying to act like them.
Erina is a mature kid and Yoko and Akane don't think it's weird, then that means I can just fake being so as well. Good thing really, I was tired of trying to act like a kid all the time.

Kai sighed and caught up with the two.
They strolled around for a few minutes until the two were back to normal.
"So, what have you two been doing for the past few years?"
Kai asked them, they didn't do much talk about the past as Yoko and Erina had only met Kai for a brief time.
"Well, we both competed in the monthly mock tournaments and the triennial tournament."
Yoko informed him first.
"Hoooh~ Did you win?"
Yoko lost her smile and shook her head.
"Unfortunately, I was defeated at the final match. We both took serious injuries from expending our full power and..."
Yoko had a crestfallen expression.
"You managed to take on the attacks that we had polished and used in the tournament head on without batting an eye and even countered with something far stronger."
Kai made a dry laugh.
"I was eliminated in the semi-finals by the opponent who fought Yoko in the end."
Kai nodded multiple times.
"True, when I sensed his power I could tell that he was stronger than you two. But if you did all you could, you could probably defeat him now."
Akane had a bright smile.
"Really?!"
"Yes, he may be strong but I could tell that he isn't used to battle. On the other hand, I feel like you two have been training even if by spars. How long has it been since the triennial tournament?"
Kai asked Yoko.
"A year."
"I see. Then the experience you've gained in this past year is definitely enough."
Though, the experience I gained is several times higher than them. I shouldn't tell them that or they may try and go on a journey.
Kai had told Juro and Akemi his real strength and that he could control multiple elements. They also told Kai a few more secrets and that they used to be able to manipulate almost all the elements. But Akemi couldn't use dark and Juro couldn't use light. But they did tell him something strange.
'Be careful of the patriarch, Mikado. He has long since figured out that we aren't humans or are part of the Kuroshi Clan. But that's only because he's been doing some very shady things behind the curtains.' were the words that they told Kai.
They immediately told him to be cautious of the patriarch, they wouldn't say that if he wasn't in danger. Looks like he had to be cautious.
Kai kept [Soul Call] active at all times. He wanted to look for peculiar movements. If there is any movement that's strange, he'd immediately separate from the two and deal with it. Of course, he already had a plan to separate with them.

The three of them walked towards the market area and ate some light snacks from the stalls. But they didn't eat much as they would eat lunch later with Erina. Kai on the other hand, ate so much that his pocket money was draining as fast as water going down the sink.
Akane and Yoko looked at Kai as if he was a strange being. They only ate light snacks but that was enough to keep them for a bit longer than an hour yet Kai actually ate more than three meals' worth of food already.
"Uhh, Kai..."
Yoko asked first.
"Are you alright with eating that much? We're still going to eat lunch later..."
Kai tilted his head.
"I'm fine, I can eat a lot more."
"I-I see."
Yoko made an awkward smile. Even the stall vendors were looking at him in disbelief. He was clearing out their whole day's worth of stock in a single meal. Even if they were only snacks, too much was still too much. He ate more than a person would eat for a whole day.
As they were eating- or rather, as Kai was eating, half an hour passed and Erina went to them. Unlike the other two, she didn't wear a one piece dress. She wore a skirt and a shirt covered with a blazer.
"Oh, that looks pretty good on you."
Kai pointed at Erina and said so, she knew the exact clothing that would make her look best.
"Thanks."
Erina responded without any hesitation.
Like a compliment from a kid would have any effect on me... but he is most likely from the other world. Unless I'm absolutely certain that it's him, I can't reveal it.
Akane and Yoko were gnashing their teeth but Erina beautifully ignored it and led them towards the place they were going to eat. They were children, sure, but if it was only within the clan, they could move freely.
Erina led them to the fanciest-looking restaurant in the clan, it looked like a restaurant belonging to a town rather than a clan though.
"So this is where we're eating?"
"Yes, but I'm sure you guys don't really like fancy settings and so I chose a place that has good food and doesn't care much for manners."
Akane, Yoko, and Kai had been to this place before but never really ate in it. They know the clan like the back of their hand but they haven't visited every shop. Of course, Erina's knowledge should be less than them but she had used Yasuo, the butler to investigate some good restaurants with her requirements.
Once Kai and the others entered, they saw a middle-aged looking man sitting behind a counter.
"Ah, welcome kids."
Akane and Yoko bowed a bit towards the old man in apology with their hands clasped together below their waist. Kai and Erina didn't feel pressured at all and only bowed a bit before heading to an empty table with Yoko and Akane in tow. The place was quite bustling but it looked quite peaceful.
The man stood up and went towards their table to take their orders.
"So, what do you kids want to eat? Here's the menu."
Akane looked over the menu and answered first.
"I'll have beef steak!"
Yoko answered next.
"I'll have pork and beans."
That dish exists here? Well, I guess it does use the basic ingredients of the past... Kai thought.
"I'll have some pasta."
Erina was next and everyone waited on Kai's order.
"I'll have Wolfen Steak, beef steak, Orc steak, pasta, grilled pork, smoked ham, and... about five pieces of bread, ah, also four juices for us."
Everyone was speechless at Kai's order. Especially the owner, he had to write it all in a rush because he thought Kai's order was over after Wolfen Steak.
Even the other people in the restaurant were staring at him in wonder. The whole place fell silent.
"I-I see, can you move towards that larger table because I don't think your food will all fit..."
The four of them nodded and moved without much trouble.
The four of them made small talk while waiting for the food and when it finally arrived...
NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM GLUG GLUG GLUG NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM GLUG GLUG
Kai scarfed it all down. He ate the Wolfen Steak in less than half a minute and kept going faster and faster. He cut the bread in half and placed meat in between and used it as a sandwich as well.
"How do I say this..."
"Yeah..."
"I know what you mean..."
The three girls were looking at Kai with very strange looks.
"Kai, do you normally eat this much?"
Yoko asked.
"Well..."
Kai swallowed the food in his mouth.
"I eat a lot more. I'd say about a whole boar I guess."
The three girls spoke no further and began to eat their meal silently. Normally, they would engage in talks while eating but they were made speechless by the amount Kai was eating.
