《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 54: Breaking Limits
Advertisement
Right now, Kai was sitting on the ground while breathing heavily. He was exhausted, he spent the past hour trying to push the whale but it was futile. The whale had not moved at all. If Kai had his ice magic, he could probably create something to help him push but he was powerless right now.
The ground regenerated everytime it broke which was beneficial for Kai as he can rest on flat ground and not a crater.
"Now that I think of it, I don't know about the time ratio here. If it's one to one, I'd be losing valuable training time."
Kai remembered his father's illusion world. He wanted to use it before he finishes his year of training.
"The old man told me he'd teach me about the elements but he didn't really tell me for how long too..."
Kai looked at his palm and clenched it into a fist.
"Yosh!"
Kai suddenly stood up and placed his hands on the whale.
Don't just do this task blindly, look for the meaning behind the words.
"Strength comes from forcefully bringing out power."
Kai began to push again with all his might but stopped after a few seconds.
"But true strength flows in naturally."
Kai began using more and more of his power until he hit his limit but it proved futile.
Kai groaned, he was getting impatient.
"No, no, that's what the trial wants to happen..."
Kai inhaled deeply then exhaled.
"Calm down, calm down."
Kai continued breathing in rotation.
"The trial wants to irritate me, I shouldn't get caught up in its pace."
Kai sat down and calmed himself.
"Having my ice attribute run out of control right now would be very good to calm myself and think about the logic, huh?"
But of course, Kai could only manipulate it a bit. He couldn't make it go out of control as it needs the attribute to overpower Kai's body and mind. If he knew about Yoko's incident, he may have tried but right now he just took the time to analyze the words.
"Ah, I'm an idiot, a big idiot."
After a couple of hours, Kai finally stood up and berated himself.
"Strength comes from force as in I'm straining my body."

Kai placed his hands on the whale and began pushing, but it proved futile- not, the whale was moving as Kai stepped forward. It didn't feel as if Kai was pushing it, it was more like it was moving along with Kai.
"But true strength flows in naturally, it's telling me to use whatever power I feel most comfortable with. Power that my body can handle with no strain at all. This trial focused on control."
It continued until it started turning transparent and burst into countless tiny little sparkling lights that rotated and formed the frame for a door. It was as if millions of stars were forming a constellation in the distance.
The door suddenly glowed and Kai stepped through it without hesitation.
It was a wide room and the other side was very far, it had a deep square hole at the end of the wall.
"Welcome to the next test, what you have just passed is the basic of basics and you will now be tested in physical strength. Your magic will be even more restricted than before."
A familiar voice of a woman suddenly talked to him but he knew that he had never heard of this voice before, he was certain. But it had a strange familiarity to it.
Kai tried channeling mana into his hands but it dispersed before it fully formed. He could channel mana with no trouble but he couldn't form them to do anything. Kai circulated the mana within his body.
"I guess it works for inside my body but I can't form it outside, which means I can't use [Body Enhancement]..."
[Body Enhancement] coats the part in mana, it would work from the inside but it won't show any noteworthy results.
As Kai was pondering this, he suddenly saw a square shadow on the floor, which was strange since even Kai didn't have a shadow in this strange white room.
The shadow became bigger and bigger until Kai swore he could hear something. But with his perception training, he figured out that something was closing in on him and fast at that. He could hear the wind, it was heavy. Very heavy.
"Don't tell me..."
Kai looked up and as he feared, there was a giant rectangular piece of stone there. It looked very heavy as it was ten meters thick and it's wideness spanned twenty or so meters.

"I knew it."
"As I've said before, this tests your physical power. This rectangular stone is heavy but with your [Body Enhancement] you'd lift it with no problems. But unfortunately for you, you can't use that. You have to use your C-class body's normal power which is below the weight of this rock. You have to carry it all the way to the other side and place it into the hole."
Kai took on a posture to catch that big piece of rock. His [Body Enhancement] could lift as much as fifteen thousand pounds if he used his full mana output but his C-class body could only lift five thousand at most.
CRACK
The stone piece landed on Kai's shoulders and hands, Kai's bone cracked but he grit his teeth and got down on one knee.
A few seconds pass and Kai laughs.
"What? Broken already? Pathethic, I should throw you out of this trial now."
The voice scoffed in disdain.
"Broken? Are you an idiot? I'm simply laughing at this level of a trial."
"What? Then why don't you go finish it already? Are you simply bragging, not knowing your own limits?"
"Limits? Ha!"
Kai hung his head down and began muttering things. The voice peered in closer to hear him but all the voice heard were 'brain', 'nervous system', and 'limiter'. It understood some of Kai's mutterings but what he was trying to do was beyond the voice's knowledge. That was only natural seeing as it was related to science and science is not heavily focused upon in this world filled with magic. Anything that is impossible to do by magic is considered impossible as a whole. They haven't even had the idea of using science to solve simple problems.
Science wasn't important to a world where you can solve it with magic.
"It's done."
The voice had its curiosity piqued and observed Kai closely.
"[Limiter Off]."
Kai slowly stood up with both his feet and carried the rock properly, the voice was speechless from the shock that it had been given. Kai grinned and slowly began moving towards the wall where there was a rectangle shaped hole.
(The voice's POV here)
Amazing, he's moving but I clearly sensed his body's physical limits before. His body may be tougher than the average C-class but I definitely weighed this rock enough so that even if he used his power to the very limits, he wouldn't be able to withstand it.
This part of the trial is about endurance, if he had held on and hadn't given up for an hour; I would have let him pass the trial and fully restore him but this is... unexpected.
Kai walked until he was near the wall and suddenly changed his posture, it was as if...
No, wait... he's gonna throw that huge block of stone into the wall with his meager amount of strength?!
The voice was shocked. The voice had enough power to move that without even touching it but for Kai who is hundreds of times weaker than the voice, it was definitely unthinkable.
"HAAAA!"
Kai made a war cry and threw the huge block of stone into the hole.
BANG
The stone block fit into the wall and molded into it and runic lines began appearing from the hole into the door.
Amazing, looks like I have to gain this talent's support. There are at least three of them in this world but it isn't assured that they're worthy to become a Supreme Being but this one... may actually have a chance.
"Amazing, what kind of technique did you use?"
Kai panted heavily.
"...That's a secret. [Limiter On]."
Kai then began to walk through the door and his silhouette vanished.
(Kai's POV again)
Kai walked into a new room, it had a transparent floor and when Kai stepped; ripples appeared. There were several sights in the area, Kai even saw the map of Gaia. There were stars and many others, the moons of this world and nature. It was first time Kai saw the moon of the planet in detail because this world had not thought of venturing into space.
Kai walked up to a pedestal with a glass orb.
"Welcome to the next trial."
