《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 52: Ice Domain

Kai woke up about half a day later, his mana wasn't fully recovered but it was at least half full. Kai groaned and looked around. Kira was sleeping on his arm peacefully.
"Sleeping like this once in a while doesn't feel bad but I should really stop wasting all of my mana. But..."
Kai looked at his palm and clenched it.
"I can feel that my mana reserves have gotten even higher. I do know that it's dangerous to increase my mana by expending it everyday with the chance that my connection to the astral body may weaken."
Kai did some research and asked the old man several things, he knows a bit more about the astral body than he originally had. He had also did some tests but now it was proven. If Kai desperately needs to increase his mana, he could just expend it all then wait for it to refill and see the increased amount. Rinse and repeat.
Kai slipped his arm under Kira and stood up.
"Guess I should eat breakfast and regenerate my mana."
Kai hunted for meat for a few minutes and ate. He then sat cross-legged and closed his eyes to meditate.
"Take in the mana from the surroundings."
Kai breathed in deeply.
Then, slowly circulate it around my body.
Kai held his breath.
"And release the ones I can't absorb."
Kai breathed out.
"This method is really useful, thanks Reo."
Kai thanked Reo for the useful recovering method.
"That alone recovered at least a whole five percent of my mana. It gets less and less useful as I get stronger but with my current mana reserves, that's a lot."
Though it would prove most useful if the area around me was filled with mana.
Kai continued to meditate until he recovered his full mana.
"But still, a week huh?"
Kai laid down on the floor and looked to the sky. He then closed his eyes.
I have a week to make my ice colder somehow, cold enough that it should be on the level of dry ice at the very least. Though making it so that my normal ice is dry ice sounds cool too. Imagine my ice turning into smoke the instant it melts. But regular ice turning into water is advantageous too cause I can melt it back.

Kai made 'hmmm' sounds from time to time indicating he had an idea being checked but he never really got to the point where he wanted to test them out.
Kai suddenly sat up but kept his eyes closed and crossed his arms.
"What if I make ice that never melts? It would stay at a certain temperature and keep itself from freezing, it doesn't have to be large-scale, I can just make it small so I can create traps."
But I need to think of how to freeze flames first.
Kai placed the idea on the back of his head for future use and immediately began pondering for more methods.
"No use, I can only think of making it as cold as possible so that it won't melt."
Kai's method wasn't wrong but it was at the level of 'maintain' rather than 'freeze'. With his previous method, he could defend himself with ease but he'd be far from being able to overwhelm the flames.
Kai finally stood up and found a nearby tree.
"I guess I can start here."
Kai made an [Ice Blade] and began to slash at the tree, he used as little of his own strength as much as possible and focused on the blade's own power.
It took Kai a total of two-hundred and seventy-nine swings for the ice blade to chip.
"Hmm, I can't continuously refine the edges of the [Ice Blade] but I can continuously create more. The feeling of the sword is also incredibly cold, a normal person would need to wear gloves to hold this. But right now, the sword can only be used as a blunt weapon. Against something harder, I'd guess it'd take about fifteen swings before chipping. But if flames are used against it, I'd doubt if it'd even last enough to swing."
Kai clicked his tongue. He had always thought that normal ice would be enough but he was proven wrong.
When he looked at the tree, it was only as if it was cut by a regular sword though it was colder than normal.
"..."
Kai stared at the tree.
"I've got it!"
Kai made his right hand into a fist and smacked it into his left palm.

"Sure, the ice is cold but you'd only feel that if you were touching or inside the ice!"
Kai stomped the floor.
"[Ice Wall]."
Several walls of ice rose around Kai.
"The thing that lets ice freeze those around isn't the ice itself but the temperature it produces!"
Kai sat in the middle of the ice walls and closed his eyes.
"Yes, this is it."
Kai's eyes turned cyan.
"I simply have to make sure that the cold inside the ice is released outside! That's how I freeze!"
Kai continued for two days straight with no sleep and immediately found Kira who was playing with his flames again.
"Kira help me test out my ice again!"
Kai excitedly asked Kira.
Of course, Kira was worried when Kai ended up in his previous state but knew that Kai was aiming to become much stronger and so didn't hesitate to help him.
Kira immediately went to his position and charged his golden flames. Kai had a smirk on his face and stood straight.
"Ready..."
Kai yelled.
"Go!"
Kira immediately released his flames into a cone in front of Kai, the sparkling golden flames had become hotter than before, though it isn't to the degree that it doubled, it was at least a hundred degrees Celsius hotter.
Kai's smirk became even more obvious and he stepped forward once.
Ice immediately began spreading from Kai's foot and like the previous event, it spread around him. This time, it spread much faster and it glowed a faint blue.
The ice, instead of simply freezing, solidified into large blocks and began stretching towards the flames. It was a beautiful feat, clear ice and golden flames clashing together producing vapor that spread all around.
It wasn't an exaggeration to say that it was a work of art.
"Hotter than before, huh? Well, my ice has gotten colder too."
Kai took another step forward and the ice began overwhelming the flames. Kira roared and the flames began gaining ground once more, but unfortunately for Kira, the ice quickly overwhelmed his golden flames again.
"Kira, did you know?"
Kai suddenly began talking in the middle of the clash, he made his voice louder using magic so that Kira could hear him fine even if the sound of vapor filled the area.
"In the middle of training my ice become colder and colder, I actually came up with something new. My idea of making the ice colder was too low, far too low. So I came up with this."
Kai raised his leg and stomped the floor with a large force.
"A move that turns everything around me into a place filled with cold. [Blizzard]."
Ice spread out from Kai's foot and into the surroundings, it was so cold that the skies above them were even turning dark and producing snow. The ice spread so fast that the flames quickly became the only source of heat in the entire area.
It was like the entire area quickly turned into the middle of a snowstorm. Snow moved at a fast pace as if influenced by wind and the floor was encased in ice instead of a buildup of snow. It was so cold that it was definitely far colder than the coldest place on Earth.
This place is my domain.
Kai looked around and nodded his head repeatedly.
The flames quickly lost ground and the glowing became darker and darker until they burned out.
Kai immediately stopped his move but it only calmed down the surroundings, the temperature was still the same. He immediately picked up Kira and ran towards another place.
"Sorry, Kira. I got a bit carried away there, thanks for training with me."
Kira was shivering from the cold and Kai hugged him to make sure he stays warm.
"Produce a fire so you can stay warmer."
Kira broke a nearby branches using magic and used [Telekinesis] to get them near him.
Kira did as Kai asked and made a fire to warm himself.
"But still, this technique is amazing. To be able to create something like a whole area of ice around me, though it took at least half my mana, it was worth it."
Kai made a satisfied smile.
