《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 33: The Talented Genius, Kuroshi Yoko's Faith

During Akane's Match
At that time, Yoko was battling someone as well. It was a boy of a larger build to the one she had fought earlier.
"Let's end this quickly."
Yoko told her opponent just before the elder permitted the battle.
"Competitors, start!"
The boy shot out and made a kick towards her head.
Yoko quickly dodged the move by making a somersault over the boy's leg and made a kick of her own.
She aimed for the side of his abdomen as to break his posture but the boy immediately curved his leg backwards to strike Yoko. Yoko was forced to stop her attack and block the incoming kick with her arm.
A retracted kick had less power than a kick that was about to hit but the impact she felt was as if she was kicked at full force with no defense whatsoever.
"Guu..."
Yoko was flung to the side and was forced to crouch on the floor and held the arm that had been kicked.
What was that force...? If he's able to launch that much force by kicking me with the back of his heel, a frontal kick would give me immense pain. My arm is already quite numb.
"Hooh, you survived my, Kuroshi Kenta's attack. Rarely anyone who has no knowledge of me has managed to block against an attack like that, they all thought that my kick was weak until they actually got hit."
Yoko furrowed her brows, how was he able to produce that much force?
Kenta had no weapons but held a peculiar fighting stance, Yoko didn't reveal her own weapons because her opponent did not have any.
"You had two knives earlier, why don't you use them now?"
"...Simply because my opponent has no weapons of his own. Using a weapon on an unarmed man is cowardly."
"Some useless pride, I'll show that you won't even come close to beating me without a weapon."
Kenta shot out and made another kick but this time it was a straight kick. It was so predictable that it was quite easy to dodge but Yoko had a sudden sense of danger and somersaulted behind him.
"Wise choice."
Kenta's leg missed and stopped on the floor.
"If you didn't dodge that and instead tried to block, you'd be flying over to the other stage."
A bead of sweat dropped down Yoko's forehead, she had instinctively felt the force behind that kick.
"How...?"
She only let out a single question in the shock.
"I won't hide any of my tactics since I've already carefully observed your previous battle. It's pure physical power, my body is of a C-class."
Yoko furrowed her brows with those words.
"It's all about experience, I am already fifteen. Since you already have this much skill in battle, I'm certain that you'll pass me very soon."

Yoko was terrified at the monster that was his opponent. How would she be able to defeat this man?
She was only an F-class mage and an E-class body. No matter how she saw it, it was certain that she'd be defeated. Even Akane wouldn't stand a chance against this man that was in front of her.
"But, I can't use magic."
Kenta had a grim face.
"That is your only advantage against me, Kuroshi Yoko. You should utilize it to its full extent."
But, I can't afford to back down now, not when I have a promise to keep.
Yoko leaped forward and Kenta utilized another kick, but this kick had three possible trajectories because of the skill that Kenta possesses.
"If that's the case, [Nimble Footwork]."
She came close and dodged at the last possible second.
"Haaa!"
She kicked his shoulder.
"Hmph."
Kenta let out a snort and then used his fist to try and punch Yoko. Yoko used her palm to alter the trajectory of the fist but wasn't spared from the damage.
She separated from him and held her wrist.
"Your wrist is certainly dislocated. Even though you had managed to avoid an attack that would knock you off the ring, your chances are now signficantly lower."
Yoko stood up and put her wrist back into its proper place with a crack, her face had pain written all over it but her expression was as fierce as ever.
"Commendable."
Kenta leaped out as his words fell and then made an axe kick.
Yoko dodged to the side with the help of [Nimble Footwork] and then made a kick at his hip. Kenta immediately took out his arm and slammed it down but Yoko avoided it with another palm which dislocated her other wrist.
"Are you going to keep continuing with light attacks and dislocate your wrist each time?"
Kenta questioned her with narrowed eyes.
"If that's what it takes to beat you."
She had one of her eyes closed because of the pain and relocated her wrist bone once more. Her hands were shaking hence she relied on her legs.
Kenta clicked his tongue and leaped forward once more, this time he used three kicks. Yoko dodged his first two kicks but had to block his final kick, she then somersaulted behind him and kicked his calf. Then retreated with several backflips.
This time, she didn't relocate her wrist.
"Your wrist has taken its toll on you. You probably can't even feel that hand anymore. If you continue to do what you've done, you'll just become a cripple."
Kenta immediately voiced Yoko's fears then charged forward again. This time, he jumped and used a punch but Yoko dodged it then kicked his other shoulder.
"What's with those attacks? I can't even feel them!"

Kenta laughed and then charged forward again. He made multiple punches with both his arms to which Yoko dodged by side stepping. After his punching assault, he kicked sideways but Yoko dodged it by using his stretched arm as leverage to get behind him and kicked his stretched elbow.
Kenta furrowed his brows at Yoko's tactics, it was like she was aiming randomly but precise. Instead of hitting a single point until it showed his weaknesses, she kept hitting different spots each time and she's been dodging faster and faster.
"What is she up to?"
Kenta decided to take a defensive stance and placed his arm in front of him.
"It looks like you're getting faster and faster."
"That's not true at all, you're just getting slower."
It sounded like Yoko was provoking him but Kenta did not seem to mind.
"I won't fall for such provocations, when a person is enraged; they'll begin to show signs of weaknesses in battle."
"I see."
Yoko merely glanced across his body before charging in.
"Haaa!"
Kenta rotated his entire body as he jumped then kicked downwards towards the approaching Yoko. No doubt, if that kick had hit Yoko anywhere, she'd be knocked out and on the floor right now. But unexpectedly, Yoko also jumped and kicked his leg.
"Seems like it's your loss!"
Their legs clashed but unexpectedly, Yoko's leg had hit his achilles tendon and his strike weakened.
Their clash ended with Yoko making another offensive stance at Kenta.
"My legs..."
Kenta was looking down at his legs that were shaking.
"I can't feel my legs..."
Kenta furrowed her brows and looked at Yoko, a smirk on her face.
"You couldn't have-!"
Before Kenta's words could finish, a massive amount of air gushed from their direction to the stage beside theirs.
"What is that?!"
Kenta looked to the stage and saw the tengu that was behind Higashi.
Yoko's eyes darted towards Akane and clenched her fist in worry.
"Akane..."
Kenta shook his head and faced his opponent once more.
"That your friend?"
"Nn."
Yoko faced Kenta once more with her back facing Akane.
"For her, I'll have to defeat you."
"I see."
An enormous pressure came from Kenta, his fighting spirit had been let out without any reserves. The mere pressure could cause inexperienced ones to tremble in fear.
"Akane, I'm borrowing your move."
Yoko whispered and then ran straight for Kenta.
"[Fast Movement]."
Her speed had doubled that of her regular speed and quickly reached Kenta.
"She's become faster!"
Kenta's legs couldn't be used like before so he relied on his fists.
Right as she was in front of Kenta, she suddenly took hold of his two shoulders with her arms and flipped overhead.
"Wha-!?"
She made a rotation in the air and kicked between Kenta's shoulder blades.
Kenta suddenly fell down with both hands on the floor.
"What is this...!?"
Yoko wasn't down, she kicked the back of his knees afterwards which made him fall on the floor.
She then went to his side and flipped him over and performed an axe kick on his solar plexus.
"Gah!"
Kenta finally felt pain. His whole body became defenseless as Yoko had weakened him.
"You... you've hit my pressure points?!"
"That's right."
"That means... all those light hits were just a farce for the real attack!?"
"I've been slowly hitting your pressure points until you weakened and it worked. I didn't expect it to go so well but with a muscular body like yours, the pressure points are easily seen."
Yoko came close to him and performed a final kick at his neck to knock him out. She knew that he wouldn't die because his body was that of a C-class. He had an extremely muscular body which greaty limit his movements, Yoko used that to her advantage to maneuver.
"I only fought you with martial arts, I have yet to use magic, my pride won't allow me to fight opponents who are lower than me unfairly."
A strong body with magic was a force to be reckoned with, but a body alone with no magic was significantly weaker until one breaks through the shackles placed on the human body.
"Though I did use a bit of magic to hit your pressure points."
Yoko stuck out her tongue and began to walk off the stage. She said all that even though her opponent was already unconscious and finally headed for the stage that Akane was in.
"Good job."
Yoko smiled and pat Akane on her shoulder.
"My whole body hurts right now so please don't do that."
Akane smiled wryly at Yoko's actions.
"My body hurts as well but not as much as yours."
Yoko merely smiled and hugged her.
"Just collapse already, I know your body is at its limit."
"...Then, please take care of me."
Akane's head dropped down on Yoko's shoulder as her consciousness faded.
"I've got to take her to the infirmary."
Yoko placed Akane on her back and began to carry her to the infirmary.
"Thanks for helping me win."
Yoko said this to an unconscious Akane. She had won mostly because of [Fast Movement], the movement speed of [Nimble Footwork] certainly wasn't enough to defeat Kenta.

Foreign Thorn: Book 1 For eight centuries, the people of Isla have wanted for nothing. The Creator, Maere, uses Her power not only to keep them healthy and fed, but also to map the direction of each person's future Path - their vocation, role in society, and even the partner they'll spend their life with. In a world where infighting once threatened the very survival of humankind, the old texts say that Maere personally stepped in to help guide Her creations to harmony. All is not well among the people of the northern lands, however, as Jian discovers when she receives her own long-awaited Path. The Creator has chosen to favour some towns, but not others, leading to anarchy and unrest in the east, and fierce distrust between the neighbours who enjoy Her protection and those who don't. After many nights of disturbing premonitions, visions of a face uncannily familiar to her, and a voice beckoning her to "Homeland," Jian decides she needs to find answers for herself. She hires Madrigal, a surly young traveller hailing from an "unblessed" village, to take her to the southern lands. The swordsman is on the run from something, or someone, but Jian has no choice but to trust him. When the two leave the safety of the familiar and meet Quinn, a mysterious boy who seems to know more about Jian than she does about herself, it becomes clear that there are forces besides the old magics, forces completely unknown to the people of Isla, in play. Madrigal and Jian aren't sure if Quinn can be trusted, but they're certain he knows more than he's letting on...
8 101Grim Beginnings
For most, ghosts and monsters were fantasy. For Tessa Byrne-Reyes, they were a constant in her daily life as a reaper. The legendary gods and creatures of mythology were, to her, historical figures. From a young age, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders, possessing what she saw as a curse but what her family considered a gift. It was her birthright, to use her abilities to guide the deceased to the afterlife of an eternity in peace or in torment. Her classmates viewed her as "the fainting girl" who would pass out in the middle of a lesson with inexplicable injuries. She experienced each death in the town of Belmont Falls, from the mundane to the gruesome. A gunshot wound in the gut, broken ribs, her heart ceasing to beat for several minutes. No one understood what caused these incidents but over the years, she gained a reputation for being abnormal. While Tessa is the freak of Belmont Falls, Fin Belmont, the charming rebel and son of the richest man in town, is her polar opposite. Knowing each other for years but never saying more than a dozen words between them, one night changes everything, thrusting them into each other's unfamiliar and daunting worlds. Together, with the help of her best friend/his ex-girlfriend Elena, they begin to unravel secrets about their town and their pasts, learning that some secrets are better left buried and grudges can be held for centuries.
