《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 12: Tournament's Climax (2)

Boom boom boom boom boom
Multiple booms rang out as Yoko evaded each and every one of Kai's attacks albeit narrow.
"If this goes on, I'll run out of magic... I have at least ten times more mana than any of my peers but the power behind them is behind Yoko and Akane. I have to end this quick!"
Kai closed his eyes as he stopped the barrage.
"[Soul Aura]..."
Kai opened his eyes and they showed a fierceness that wasn't there before. He was using the power of his soul.
Yoko slowed down and froze in place, the crowd felt the suffocating pressure once more. The elder stood his ground and nodded in admiration.
"He actually held back."
Yoko froze in place and everyone immediately knew that battle was already over.
"This battle is over, surrender."
Kai's voice calmly tried to persuade her but if one were to listen closely, there was fatigue hidden in his voice.
Yoko's hand twitched.
"Never!"
Kai clicked his tongue as the magic circles that were surrounding him had faded.
"I no longer have enough mana to support my magic circles, I have to do it manually. I have about five shots left..."
Kai took a deep breath and fixed his stance. He closed his eyes and aimed his index finger towards Yoko who was panting.
"Yoko, without my magic; I'll be fodder for you. I only have a few shots left, if you can dodge these, it would undoubtedly be your victory if you use [Elemental Attacks] but..."
Kai smirked as the air around him had changed.
"We're both drained of mana, but you're even more drained because of your previous battles and your physical body is hurt from using that technique of yours. It uses limits beyond your physical body and have been continually draining from it as you dodge..."
Yoko grit her teeth.
"And what does that have to do with anything?!"
Kai would normally back down but right now, he couldn't afford to. People would normally think that he's only seven; but he thinks differently. He thinks that he's already seven, how would he be able to conquer this world when he's not even F-class when he's about to reach a tenth of his lifespan? He doesn't know why he's so obssessed with becoming a monarch when in his previous life, he was a scapegoat, follower, and slave to everyone he came across.
He wasn't poor, his family was normal, and his school was ordinary. But his attitude prevented him from becoming a true human. He had a subconscious attitude to bow down to anyone who he thought was higher than him; he thought he was inferior. But right now...

"In normal circumstances, you can't beat me in terms of mana, you can beat me in terms of magic power, and you can beat me in terms of physical prowess. But right now..."
Kai opened his eyes and had a face filled with excitement.
He was superior!
"...We're both in equally dire straits!"
Black smoke began to emit from Kai's whole body. He was channelling his attribute of darkness.
"Is he really gonna do what I think he's gonna do?!"
"This kid is crazy!"
"What is he thinking?!"
Both the head elder and elder furrowed their brows at Kai's suicidal attitude.
"He's channelling every bit of his magic for a final attack!?"
The whites of Kai's eyes turned dark.
"Yoko..."
Kai muttered her name.
"...Are you serious...?"
Yoko couldn't believe what she was seeing, to focus mana on a single attack was a feat that only the most experienced mages could do. She only managed to utter that single line before stepping back.
The head elder immediately stood up from his seat.
"Stop that boy, he's been influenced by darkness!"
The elder was startled and leapt unto the stage.
"...run away...!"
Kai managed to utter his last words before going blank; the magic around him rampaging.
"Kai, what are you doing?!"
Reo was thrown into a panic. The amount of mana focused on this attack was something above Kai's limits. It wasn't Kai's power.
"Who are you!?"
Reo went inside Kai's body and headed straight for the source of his attributes.
"Bloodline...?!"
The blood in Kai's body was seething and his darkness attribute was out of control. The ice attribute was spared because Reo had previously sealed it.
"Only the strongest level of bloodlines would create a reaction such as this... but more importantly, why did it go out of control?!"
Yoko was trembling in fear and fell on the floor.
Yoko was scared speechless. Tears began to appear from the corner of her eyes.
"Demon...!"
The head elder muttered.
"Elder, quickly!"
The elder jumped towards Yoko and formed a barrier.
""[Barrier]!""
The elder formed a barrier around the terrified Yoko as the head elder formed a barrier around the whole stage to protect the crowd.
"This power... F-rank, fifth step-no, this is E-rank, first step!"
The head elder clicked his tongue.
"What is happening?!"
The whole crowd was in shambles as they tried to run away.

Kai's parents, Juro and Akemi were thrown into disarray.
"Kai!"
Juro tried to get out of the barrier by punching it to try and reach Kai.
"Kai!"
Akemi banged on the barrier loudly.
"Stop it, you two!"
The head elder yelled at them.
"He's emitting power of E-class, it's way above my level. The focus of his power is the elder and Yoko, I may have the possibility to block it but if you two damage the barrier, we will all die!"
Akemi and Juro were alarmed, the head elder was sacrificing Yoko and an elder just to stop Kai.
"Juro..."
Akemi weakly called her husband.
"His bloodline has awakened... I planned to let it awaken inside the illusion in a few years but for it to wake up this early... He's experiencing extreme emotions...?"
Akemi shuddered.
"Do you think that she can help Kai?"
Juro nodded with slight hesitation.
"I am certain, but the question is would she help Kai? She hasn't approved of our relationship and sealed your bloodline. To come back and ask her for help is a bit much."
Juro clicked his tongue.
"But we have no choice, his bloodline had gone out of control because he was experiencing extreme emotions, normally it would still be sealed but because he was born with the power of darkness, extreme emotions would affect his power. But what could've made him experience such extreme emotions...?"
Akemi's eyes gaped.
"Juro... could it be the patriarch...?"
Juro's expression turned fierce.
"He did something to Kai! That's the only explanation!"
Juro leaped towards the head elder and bowed.
"Head elder, let me in! I have an idea on how to stop him temporarily, I can at least stop him from using that magic!"
The head elder looked into his eyes and couldn't see a lie.
"...are you sure about this?"
"Nn."
Juro nodded without hesitation.
"Alright, I trust you."
The barrier disappeared as the magic surrounding Kai's body began to spread to different parts of the arena.
"Kai!"
Juro leapt on top of the stage.
Kai stood still as if he didn't hear anything and tilted his head.
"[Dark..."
Kai began to chant a spell and his voice was rough and gave off a baleful sound.
"KAI, NO!"
Juro's yell was hoarse as he desperately ran towards Kai.
...Matter]."
Every strand of magic that was seemingly out of control began to gather into Kai's index finger.
It all formed into a tiny ball of darkness that was darker than black. It was as if when anyone looked at it, they were lookingi nto the eternal abyss. Every hint of light in its surroundings was eaten up. The space in the surroundings was being ripped apart and cracks began to appear on the surroundings.
The tiny ball of darkness was so small that it seemed insignificant, but the pressure one would feel when looking straight at it was so immense that most of the people in the arena were scared enough to wet themselves after only looking at it for a mere second.
Just when that tiny piece of darkness was about to be launched from Kai's finger, Juro had arrived next to him.
"[Seal]!"
Juro strapped a piece of paper onto Kai's forehead and it began to emit a light so bright that it seemed to overshadow Kai's [Dark Matter].
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Kai's voice hoarsely screamed as the talisman attached to his forehead began to create sparks of light.
Kai's body tilted backwards and the [Dark Matter] on his index finger launched upwards to the sky. It travelled for half a kilometer above the arena.
There was no sound, everybody's screams were drowned out by silence. The light in the sky disappeared as it all turned into pitch black darkness.
The darkness expanded to cover the entire sky above the arena and ate everything in sight.
The top of the walls crumbled and began to disappear. Nothing in range could be spared from the devestating disaster that was caused by magic. The entire top half of the arena was erased from existence, luckily there were no casualties.
Kai fell on his knees and dropped with a thud.
Yoko and the elder who were nearest to Kai aside from Juro were still trembling. Yoko had tear stains on her face, the fear was too much for a kid. It was fear that penetrates deep into the soul.
On that day, the whole Kuroshi Clan were reminded of the terror of magic. And for Yoko, a seed of fear had been planted deeply in her heart.

His eyes had turned bloodshot and his hands shook with rage. “The first thirty…” “Shut up!” Genzo bellowed “How dare you help these disrespectful gaijin?” Flecks of spit and madness flew from his face, his fist raised ready to strike. But Emi did not flinch, instead she was about ready to continue when Yuma Takeuchi interrupted her. “Uchida, please,” her sweet sounding words could melt ice. “I think we will have a better chance of getting home if we all work together.” When she glanced up with her sleepy looking eyes at Genzo Uchida he deflated visibly. “Were not getting home.” Uchida said coolly. “Group summoning, large, that puts us in the 60 series. No one came to greet us after five minutes of arrival. That leaves scenarios 68 and 69. In scenario 68 there is something that binds the large group together; they are all classmates or a single family. But thanks to the gaijin” he spit out the word “I think we are scenario 69 with no way home.” Ikko Inoue’s eyes went wide, while Katsukno and Hayata started muttering to themselves. Tim took on a serious look and rubbed his scruffy chin. Emi maintained her stoic expression while trying to find something to refute. McKenzie glanced at Randall and giggled. Randall took the prompting of his teammate and followed up by approaching Genzo. “Uh, so we are in a sixty-nine?” “Yes.” Replied Genzo with the seriousness of someone who’s life was about to end. McKenzie covered her mouth and snickered. “You and me, were stuck in a sixty-nine situation?” Randall pushed with a grin. “Yes, we are all stuck in a sixty-nine scenario together!” Genzo retorted in anger. McKenzie fell on her butt laughing. “What the hell is so funny?” Demanded Genzo, whose face had turned red. “It’s a problem with the automatic translation.” Retorted Tim. Randall, who seemed unable to quit started in again “So, about this sixty-ni…” Genzo interrupted Randall with a swift punch to the face. But, because of their height difference it was a bit of an uppercut that left Randall rattled. Tim and Ikko moved to step in between the two, but Genzo showed no further hostility. Instead he just stared at his clenched fist with such intensity it grabbed the attention of the room. “I unlocked a skill.” He said bluntly. ***************************** This is not a light novel, but people who like light novels should enjoy the themes of this book. ***************************** A Map of the Region
