《Smoking Iron》 Chapter III: Our Own Paradise in Hell Part 3

Oh yes, he is more than just a man, well to all those that only heard of him. To me well, to me he was nothin more than a friend, and not a day goes by that I wish he hadnt done what he did. You see, you may know of his story already but he brought a war to Oasis and this war threatened everything they knew and had. This man heard of a rumor from an old timer that was a slave to Oasis, this old timer told him of a place beyond the Wilds. This place beyond the Wilds was a city, the last city of the Old World, but this one was different.
This city was not only the last of the Old World, but it was untouched by the war and still had all the fancy machines that the Old World had. This city was a chance, a chance to overthrow Oasis and reconnect this shattered world. So what did he do? He marched out into the Wilds, armed with nothing but the Iron at his side, and a mission. He turned away from everything he built and faught for, on a rumor. Oasis soon faught back the Reapers, and without their leader, they were beaten back behind their borders.
That is why I am here, I tell the story of that man, in hopes that those that follow, those that pass by and hear. In hopes that they take up the mantle left behind, the path to freedom, left in pursuit of a way to defeat Oasis that was just such a huge risk to take. I dont know why he did it, when he almost had Oasis beaten, but he wouldnt if it wasnt necessary. I trusted that man with my life, and I would never sullen his name or what he did for the poeple of Hyrdexen. Now enough of that for now, we have more Districts to be revealed, and the final of the Outlaws to be shown.
Where did I leave off now? I really need to quit the drink but damn does it do this weathered shell of a man good, steadies the nerves once you get used to it, at least when your sittin down. Right, the farms were where I left off, before you implored me of goin on and tellin you about the part of the story you aint meant to hear just yet. Now the drink may make some slow, but I havent gotten that slow yet, I guess I can give you that one though, cant wait to tell you the real story. Anyways, back to the Districts or my little world tour wouldn't be complete.
Next up on the line of Districts is the lowley District 12, Rosencroft. Now this District is full of would be inventors and those that try and reclaim the machines left behind by the Old World. I havent met many from Rosencroft I just know that them and Oasis work real close together. Thats just for Oasis to get the edge as far as weaponry goes, their Irons are less actual Iron than they are something called Plastiron. Its a mix of some Old World material and iron thats stronger and lighter, which means its more deadly when it comes down to it.
Rosencroft is where all the machines and various things that are found that come from the Old World, and there they tirelessly pour over them for hours and hours to find out how they work, or how to make them work again. Stories have gone around that they have a few of the Old World weapons under lock and key there that they claim to have made from the scraps and left overs from remnants that they found lying around. I dont think they do but should they, then I think anyone looking to fight them had better think twice.

Now I doubt they have any of them Old World weapons layin around, they should out of anyone, know what would happen should those go off, our little insignificant lives would be swept away in the blink of an eyes and they are too close to Oasis for that risk to be taken. If they do, then they best have them in the biggest damned vault and guarded by the toughest sons of bitches this planet has to offer, that is a terrible power to hold, over all of us.
Other than lab rats and researchers Rosencroft doesn't give anything else, they used to give more but Oasis has since tightened their grip on the Districts, last time it was this bad a war started, and that war ended with the dissapearance of the leader of the people, the one I mentioned earlier. When he left, hope was lost, and so with it the war as well. Id love to see the machines of the Old World but Rosencroft stinks too much of Oasis for me to even think about going there and seeing them for myself.
Now onto the next District in line, another one that really doesn't do much to help out the rest of the world, District 13, Hennisey. Now this District is home to any that aren't smart enough to be useful to Rosencroft and to smart to be a mindless slave at Oasis. They aren't rich nor poor, but in the sad middle ground. Not really sure what all they do there but it seems that its just a District full of common riff raff and those lookin to just live a normal life, well as normal as you can get round these parts anymore.
What else can I tell about Hennisey? I know that they border Rosencroft and Luxenschaff but as far as what their purpose was well its beyond me. It may just have been a place for those in the middle to live and choose where they wanted to work but it really doesnt matter cause poor here is anyone who doesnt have water, and they die off pretty often cause of it. Haven't been to Hennisey so I can't tell you what it looks like but I've heard its just a bunch of open land and some pretty big hills, not mountains mind you, just big hills.
So getting on to a District I know a little more about we come to District 14, The Tidelands. This one is a very interesting one because they sit on the edge of a massive cliffside. What used to cover that area was an ocean, a massive amount of water that was there during the Old World but long since dried up from the war. They have a city named Shipwreck as its just a pile of old ships and boats of all different kinds most rusted all the way through, hard to imagine they once floated on water, must have been one sight to see.
They specialize in designing what machines that are more akin to our new world rather than what was before. They design new forges for Irons, new ways to smelt Iron, ways to make it stronger. They also create new farm machines and processors for the food that is grown, they are the same pretty much as Rosencroft but to the benefit of the whole world and not just Oasis. They even tried making a water purifier but that project was lost once Oasis got wind of it.

Ive been a few times to the Tidelands, and their main city of Shipwreck. One crappy lookin city but its still a sight to see at least once. I stood near the large cliff and looked off into the wilds that are past the Tidelands and wondered what it looked like with nothing but water there, and I couldn't even begin to think of it, that much water seemed impossible, but it indeed was there once, and no longer. Id give anything to see that much water, but theres not a damned place on this planet anymore that has anywhere near that much water, at least not that we know of.
You see, the Wilds are really the only place we don't know that much about, wether theres anything past them. People are just too scared to venture out that way, and those that do never return, not in their entirety that is. Some that went out there did come back, but just in body. Their minds were twisted and warped and they came back crazier than shit, babbling about the monstrosities that they saw or think they saw, and the sounds they heard.
One of them that came back I got a chance to talk to before he dissapeared. He said he heard a sort of noise in the night, one of scraping and pounding as if there was a machine roaming the wastes. Now I dont think that his story was true because he also spoke of sources of water larger than the Foglands, and no where on this planet has that much water left.
The Foglands are the next District that I get to tell you about, and its much like the Blackmarsh. The Foglands is the place where the Old Worlds war was fought, and where their weapons were let loose. Their weapons scarred the very dirt and sand on which they were dropped and used. The entire region of the Foglands is a wasteland of old grasslands and an ancient river system that got the full brunt of the war. The entire District is coated with an eerie fog, and its not a natural fog either.
We dont know what causes the fog just that it seems to glow and some even say to have seen it glowing in the night. The Foglands is by far the largest District and has the most people living there but they aren't really people anymore. They are also home to the last of the Big Three outlaw posses, except that they are less outlaws than they are savages like the Kuru in the Blackmarsh. They are the Fogdrinkers, the name is misleading however, they dont really drink the fog at least not that I know of anyhow.
They are mutated horribly, as if the weapons of the war turned them into monsters. Most have extra limbs, and features to their bodies. They also are an assortment of colors, but mostly are pale white, to a deep grey that is unsettling to see and experience. Most of the District is flat ground but they do have hills to their easternmost parts, no one really knows what is over that way however cause they never make it through the fog. The Fogdrinkers are Oasis's worst problem as of right now.
Oasis constantly has to fend off the hordes of the Fogdrinkers. Its not difficult as the Fogdrinkers are less equipped than the Reapers and the Pitsman but their numbers far outweigh them both combined, and numbers are the issue. Irons only have so many shots and from some stories I've heard of those that fought against the Fogdrinkers, it takes several shots to put one down. I haven't been there but I have seen it from afar, and I must say it is a haunting sight to see the fog.
I've met some of the folk from there however, and just like the Kuru not all of them are brainless and murderous savages. The few I met have been very interesting to speak with, and have been the most terrifying to see. One man had an extra arm growing out of his back, it was mangy and gnarled, clearly a burden to have. A woman that was with him and two extra eyes that grew nearly inside of the two she was supposed to have, and she was completely blind because of it. Those are just some of the tamer mutations that have been heard of comin out of the Foglands.
Where the Foglands end and the Wilds meet is an unknown point, so much of the Foglands might as well be the Wilds. Beasts of every kind have been told to be seen anywhere from just outside their capitol to the very easternmost parts where the fog thickens so much you cant see your feet if you looked down at them. That is the point where I would say the Wilds began, cause any that dare venture past are sure to never be seen again, thats a common thing on this planet though, so don't get used to seeing your friends or family for too long, they will most likely dissapear without a trace.
Its about that time of night again, you best head off, sandstorms comin in a few hours. Come back tomorrow if the ramblings of an old fool interest you any. You take care of what Ive said so far, you might live longer than most because of it. If you do dont go thankin me any, Ive seen alot in this world, and most of it I wish I hadnt, now run along, this storms gonna be a good one. Should you come back tomorrow I can finally tell of the man I told you about earlier, the man who was my friend, and the one who left in search of something we didnt think existed.

This is Bright Battle Academy, where champions are forged and legends begin. Dwarfs? Once they were part of the great alliance. They helped build this very academy. But they were so stubborn, so unyielding, so unwilling to bend themselves to the rules. And so they weakened, and so they declined, and so their empires faded. What few that are left shun the academy. We have no dwarfs here. Rogues? Perhaps a handful in the sprawl, hiding in the shadows, hoarding their merits, hoping to buy a promotion to something remotely useful, ninja or assassin perhaps. But in the academy proper? No. We have no rogues here. And yet despite everything here she stands. Nala Greyward, Dwarf Rogue. Pettiest of thieves. Unpleasantest of surprises. Causer of problems. So she killed an ogre. Slave 53: The Phoenix
Azgarth is a violent Warlord from a planet where everyone feared him, a man that never lost a battle whether it be from his enemies surrendering or dying. After entering a wormhole, this once infamous man had his memory completely wiped. He was enslaved under the name 53. The great comet arrived one day and gave 53 an extremely rare animal aspect, the Phoenix. Having a rare animal aspect puts people on the fast track to power in this world. Will 53 show the same brutality as his former self? Author: So there will probably be a lot of changes when I start hashing out the whole classes and what not. I'm not planning on this to have statuses or anything like that, but when people 'lvl up' is probably going to be something like ascending 1, 2, 3, etc. With each ascension they are many times stronger, for example, someone who hasn't ascend at all would be at 0, but someone with a 1 would be about 5x stronger than someone who is 0 and so on. It would take a long time to reach each one. With the red colored marks which represents fire, I have a couple ideas with what I want to do, in a way a battle royale, as this continent they are on isn't very large, but all four elements are on it (or more, I might add light, dark, and some others) but all the humans have red, while a different alien race has blue (water), brown (earth), and grey (Air). The color of the mark they have influences how they feel about each other, a example of that would be if a red saw a brown, then they would naturally feel a disgust about each other, and if they killed someone from a different color they would gain way more life essence which is needed to ascend than they would killing someone from their same color. The last thing, I'm not too sure about the main character yet, as I like the whole idea of a memory wipe, I almost think it'd be more entertaining to have the guy slowly regain all his memory, then just becoming his normal self again. If that's the case I'll have to change the title of book. The original idea was this guy would keep the name 53, and his prior self named Azgarth is sharing his body, as in he can talk to him and give him advice on things since he doesn't want him to die since he is sorta like a split personality sharing the same body. Looking at it now, idk if I want this guy to be named 53 forever. Warning: A lot of dark content in the book, especially in the flashbacks.
