Chapter 6 - "Kotori"

Hello, my name is Eva Fenrik I am a seven years old little girl, who was reincarnate in this world as the champion of a god after dying in my previous one... Right now I am in a carriage that going north with my feet and hands cuffed with anti-magic enchanted cuffs, like my mother who is sitting beside me while crying... A hour ago I was still taking a nap in the family mansion, when suddenly armed men attacked us by surprise saying something about my father plotting against the previous king and that his family is to be enslaved by the royal family as punishment.

Or course nobody in the house consented to such an absurd thing and tried to resist, but the knights who were trained to fight mages and were also leaded by a champion, easily overpowered me and my mother, and kidnapped us while Allina was still trying to come our way to save us but had her path blocked by a wall of knights, as for my grand father he tried to fight beside her but, was soon killed in front of my eyes... And now here we are going to the north in direction of the capital where, what await us is a life of enslavement...

I hope my big brother ran away and wasn't found... But that would mean I will never see him again, I don't want that! I do love the rest of my family but unlike him they were more like a foster family, since my brother was in the same circumstance as me and was the one who showed me the most love and was the only one I knew able to understand me, he his the most dear person to me...

I think it's about time I tell you about my life story so far and how I came to love my brother this much.

Twenty-three years ago in a rich household was born a little girl with the name 'Kotori' in a country know as japan, but the girl was not a child born of love between the master of the house and his wife, but a child the wife had with her secret lover. But as secret as was the lover, everybody in the house knew that she wasn't the daughter of the head of this family since him and his wife was sleeping in a different bedroom since years ago.

The only reason her mother kept her, was as a revenge against her husband who had a secret child with another woman, long time ago. The little girl grew up without any love and was unable to show her emotions, always having a poker face. The only joy the little girl found in life, has she was hated and ignored by all the peoples in the house, was to swim in the ocean that was just at a twenty minute walking distance of their house. Swimming like a fish in his element, it was the only moment of peace her sad life had, Kotori was always alone, she didn't care about other and wanted nothing to do with them, she just wanted to swim again and again, and was always diving until almost drowning.

In summer like in winter even as the cold water was giving her pains she didn't minded and continued to swim even as her body started to get purple from hypothermia, yet she never had any accident like drowning from a cramp or can't be able to move due to her body being paralyzed from cold.

But when she was ten years old she assisted to a strange scene, the head of the family was beating his mother with his fists, the little girl kept looking at the scene from a gap of the door to the living room, until an attendant of the house saw her from the hallways and rapidly took her away from there.

Innocently the girl asked the attendant. "Why is father hitting mother?"

The servant looked back at her clearly annoyed and gave her for answer. "It's the way some people show their love."

The girl knew nothing of love and started thinking it was maybe true as hard to believe it was. And because of the answer the attendant gave to the little girl without thinking, an incident happened...

At a party who was hold by a friend of her family, a boy the same age as the little girl asked her for a dance in a polite manner while blushing, Kotori starred back at him while thinking, and finally slapped him in the face with all her strength making the boy cry noisily. As the boy was the son of the one holding the party it caused a big commotion and when the father of the boy asked her to explain why she did something like that, her only answer was.

"I tried to show love the same way my father show it to my mother as to understand it, was that wrong?"

As the little girl just accused her father of domestic violence, a lot of peoples at the party who were friends and business partners of her father immediately cut all tie with him or his business the day after, trough great effort her father was able to save his company, but the incident made him lose a lot of profits and connections. Since then the little girl who already was, almost completely ignored before, was now completely acknowledged as a stranger to the family who live in the house, even for dinner she wasn't to dine at the family table but alone in her bedroom.

As soon as the girl was old enough to go to middle school, she was enrolled in an all girl school for rich young lady with dormitory, as if to banish her from the house. Since the school had a high-school division and even a college one she wasn't to come to her house apart from holidays until she became an adult when her parents would finally be able to disown her.

Now far from her beloved sea she entered a swimming club, where she shown greats results and rapidly gained popularity with her classmates, she even was given an embarrassing nickname that was only possible in that kind of environment, 'Little Mermaid', even for Kotori who never was showing her emotions, she couldn't help but be embarrassed the first time she was called that.

Life was starting to look good for Kotori, she made friends who didn't mind the fact she never showed her emotions and she even found something she was really good at and was recognized for. Years passed and now Kotori was a first year High-school girl, of course she stayed in the swimming club and once again shown impressive results at competitions, even the media started to be interested in the young girl who was as much known for her talent than for her beauty. And of course one day, as she just won yet another competition, a reporter who was just doing his job asked a simple question that anyone could have asked.

"How did you become such a great swimmer?"

The now sixteen years old girl simply answered.

"Everyday when I was a kid, as to run away from my family I swam in the ocean after school..."

Of course most took this for a dark joke and didn't dig more on the matter, but it wasn't the case of the reporter who asked the question and feeling a scoop he searched about the girl past. And after asking around old friends of her father who cut all tie with him, the incident where she accused her father of hitting her mother came to light. Soon rumors of Kotori father being a monster who was not only hitting his wife but also his daughter came around, and soon the scandal forced him to sell his company.

A month after that, her mother her face full of bruises, came to school to take her back home, the school was quite surprised at this, since they already paid the school for all of her high-school years ahead of time, and even if they didn't and couldn't pay anymore, the school would have granted Kotori a scholarship since she was a great talent who gave fame to the school. But her mother didn't want to hear any of that and took by force her daughter and made her go in the car before starting the engine and drove away from school.

Her mother silently drive in the direction of her home, but her eyes seemed dead, it was as if she was a zombie driving a car... And as they were now close to home, her mother changed direction and was going in direction of the beach. Finally close to the beach her mother took her handbag, got out of the car and started to walk in direction of the beach just saying a simple "follow me" to her daughter without even turning around.

Since it's not like she could go against her mother she followed after her silently, and her mother stopped walking near where the wave stopped and looked at the sea still not showing any emotion from her bruised face. Kotori stood next to her and also looked at the sea, from afar a motorboat was coming this way and stopped a little afar from where they where standing as to not hit the land, from the boat a man came closer with a rowing boat, and after the rowing boat was at their feet, the man leaved the small boat while handing the girl mother, keys.

"Here you go ma'am. I don't know what you want to do with it but it's now yours!"

At those words my mother only nod at the man and took the keys before entering the small boat and made to her daughter sign to follow suit. After rowing for a minute they came aboard the motorboat, and her mother still as silent as ever started the engine and drove away from the beach, after driving for thirty minute on the sea her mother finally stopped the engine and finally looked in direction of her daughter.

"I killed your father." (Mother)

This fact didn't shock the young girl as she had already guessed why her mother brought her here in the middle of the sea.

"Everything is your fault! If only you were never born!" (Mother)

"You are the one who gave birth to me as a revenge against father, I never asked you to..." (Kotori)

Not affected by her mother accusation, Kotori just answered by telling her what was her thought on the matter.

"HOW DARE YOU!" While screaming, her mother took out a small handgun from her bag and shoot Kotori in the leg.

"Aahhh..." After a small moan of pain Kotori started to wonder why her mother didn't shot her in the head and finish this. But an answer was given to her fast enough as her mother grope her by the neck and threw her in the sea.

"Aren't you happy?! You are going to die in your beloved ocean!" (Mother)

After saying that she restarted the boat and drove away while laughing hysterically leaving Kotori floating alone in the sea.

"I do am thankful mother..." Said the girl while letting the wave move her, but her mother was already too far to hear that.

Yes Kotori, really was thankful of her mother to let her die here, as her strength was slowly being drained from blood loss she made the decision to dive and swim one last time, she dived and swam along fish and other marines creatures, even tough she was bleeding no predator came to her, the fish just let her swam along them like she herself was one of them, and slowly and peacefully, Kotori died of blood loss.

Yes at that time 'I' died without even knowing it, it just came to me like I was gently falling asleep, but as you already know, my, 'Kotori', story didn't stop here.

As I opened my eyes I wasn't in the sea anymore but in a dark space devoid of life...

"Is this the afterlife?" (Kotori)

I was floating in the nude in this dark space, it wasn't unpleasant as it gave me the sensation of still being under water, and I started to swam like nothing was wrong in this dark void... But after 'swimming' for some minute I suddenly heard a voice.

"Well, well, well... I didn't expect that kind of reaction... That's boring!" (???)

A pervert suddenly appeared, he had strange blue hair and eyes and was wearing seashells to hide his nipples and crotch... Yes that what you call a pervert...

"Hey! Who are you calling a pervert?! I'm a god you know! A GOD!" (???)

"*Sigh*... Annoying, who gave you the right to read my mind? Pervert..." (Kotori)

"What the... What with that reaction?! The great me, Xenesio, came to you and even proved his divinity by reading your mind and that's your reaction?! I LOVE IT!" (Xenesio)

Ok... No matter you look at it, this man a nutcase and pervert...

"Well I won't deny that I do am, a perverted god, but still calling me a nutcase was kinda harsh no?"

Shut up you're annoying leave me alone...

"Now you don't even make the effort to talk?! But don't be so fast to dismiss me, don't you know the situation you are right now? Look a your legs." (Xenesio)

Uh? Oh, it look like my feet disappeared... But isn't that normal for someone dead?

"Huh? Ah, right it's common in your folklore that ghost don't have feet, but here it has nothing to do with that. You were being eaten by a system that was going to fragment your soul to birth new one. But the great me stopped that from happening!"

Why would you do something like that? Isn't that just the natural order of thing?

"*Sigh* Do you want to disappear or something?" (Xenesio)

No not really but that just how thing are, wouldn't a god job be to let the natural order to not be disturbed?

"Wellll... In truth this is not my world so I don't care about it's natural order, and I came with a good offer for you!" (Xenesio)

That sound like a scam...

"Why would I even scam you?! Anyway just hear me out would ya? I came hear to give you a second life in my world! What do you say, sweet deal no?" (Xenesio)

And like I already said why would you do that?

"Well... The thing is I want you to be rebirth as my champion, and gonna make you born in the family who also birthed the champion of my annoying rival, so you can hinder his work." (Xenesio)

Hearing that I started to get really angry as he intended to gave me a life for a reason that was close to the one my mother had to birth me...

"Oh wait! I stop you here, I know perfectly anything and everything that happened in your life and I'm nothing like your bitch of a mother. The family you be born into is a loving family and I do give you birth there only to annoy my rival, it's true, but the reason I'm giving you a second life is because I choose you to be my champion nothing else." (Xenesio)

Whatever... And what is a champion supposed to do?

"Hm? What did you say? Sorry the reception is kinda lacking around here..." (Xenesio)

"..." (Xenesio)

Ok... Your clearly avoiding the question, forget about the deal, leave and let me disappear...

"Well... The thing is... It's already to late... *Tehe*" (Xenesio)

"WHAT?!" (Kotori)

"Oops, it's time, well since i kinda forced your hand here I will answer your question before parting way. Your job is to gain fame in my name so I can gain faith in return, we gods are pretty bored and always compare the number of followers we have so it's your job to make people want to pray to me! Oh! Also don't forget to hinder, the champion of that bitch Ymylfana! See ya!" (Xenesio)

"You basta...!" (Kotori)

I started to glow in a bright light, and suddenly my mind blacked out.

What is happening? My body hurt... I tried to open my eyes but was unable to. My body suddenly was getting rubbed by a wet fabric. The sensation startled me and I gave out a little shriek.

"Guugaaa!"

Or so I thought, as a baby voice was all that came out of my mouth. Look like this bastard really reincarnated me.

"Congratulation sir, it's a girl." (Oldman with a gentleman voice alike a famous Scottish actor with S.C for initial)

A man who had the voice of a gentleman, told that to a man who was most likely my father.

"OOOOOHHHH MY BABY GIRL!" (Loud man)

After a loud man who was likely the said father started to scream in a loud voice, I felt rugged hand took my small body.

"LOOK! Shun my son, it's your little sister!" (Father?)

"Yes father, she is really cute..." (Shun, brother?)

"Congratulation Myaster!" (Cat person servant?)

"Oohh she going to be quite the beauty like her mother huh? Don't worry little fella! Gramps gonna molest your bust everyday so it grow as much as your mother!" (Perverted oldman...)

"Father if you touch my daughter in an obscene way I will make it so you become food for the werebears..." (Scary mother?) And what a werebear?

It seem like an interesting family... As I was hearing their happy voices and joke, it was a joke right? A strange feeling started to rise in me and made me cry. Seeing as I was crying I was given to my mother.

"It's ok my baby, mama here." (Now gentle Mother)

I wondered what was that soft feeling under my bottom when my mother held me, but sleep slowly started to get to me... I was feeling as if I was born for the first time... It was like my previous life was a long, very long nightmare finally over... And I now had the name of Eva.

Six month later was the first time I used magic, my brother Shun who also was the champion that Xenesio talked me about. Was discovered in the armory playing with our father weapons by our maid Allina, who came to report to my mother while holding him by the neck like a puppy and whispered something to my mother that neither me or my brother could heard.

"So shun? What were you doing in the armory exactly when I repeated to you that you are forbidden to go there?" (Mother Felicia)

Pearl of sweats started to form on my brother forehead that was still keeping a perfect poker face. What does he fear so much from our gentle mother?

"That a misunderstanding mother I heard a sound coming from the armory and equipped myself with a sword only to face a potential intruder..." (Shun)

My mother hearing him started to have a colder glare than before. He certainly was good at lying but our mother seemed able to read him like a open book.

"I see so you used a whetstone to sharp your sword for half a hour while being afraid of the potential attack of an intruder? I must say your are quite courageous..." (Felicia)

Hearing the words of mother Shun face started to become pale as he understood he had been trapped by Allina who was looking at him since long before she took him to his mother...

"*Gulp*... Shit..." (Shun)

"Don't you dare swear or lie in front of me!" (Felicia)

At those word my mother waved a hand down as if she was trying to push him down from a distance, and she really did as my brother suddenly faceplanted the floor, as an invisible force was holding him down. It was magic, the first time I've seen it and also the first time I've felt it. Because yes when my mother used magic at my brother I was able to feel a strange flow in the air, and since then I was able to senses it around us, from my mother, or from inside me.

Using this new found energy I tried to copy the flow my mother just used on my brother, and suddenly sensing mana being drained from me and starting to flow out, my brother suddenly gasped as he just received a huge hit of mana.

"*Gasp* I know I was wrong but aren't you overdoing it?!" (Shun)

"Uh? No that wasn't... Oh! My little girl opened her mana channel!" (Felicia)

Oh so that was it was called when you start to be able to sense mana? Trying it again, I hit once again my already down brother.

"Arg... Urg... Ouf...!" (Shun)

"Hihihihihihi." (Eva)

It was really fun to hit him, but he had a reaction I didn't quite expect, even after hitting him this much, when hearing me laughing he showed a bright smile as if he was happy to see me enjoying myself. That really irritated me, and I continued to attack him until my mother slapped my hand while saying "Bad girl!", but my brother never stopped smiling.

Finally free from our mother restrain and my barrage of magic attack, Shun got back up, and creaked the bones of his shoulder as if verifying that everything where as it's right place.

"Are you okay Shun?" (Felicia)

My mother who was punishing him a second now showed quite a lot of concern for him.

"Ahahah, yeah I'm okay I took worse beating from you mother, and shouldn't we rejoice from the fact that Eva have so much talent?" (Shun)

My brother answered back, not showing even a trace of anger. That really made me angry for some reason, it was like I wasn't even worth being angry for... I then decided I was going to use him and make him my punch bag from now on...

And I did, at every occasion I started to beat him with magic, while laughing, again and again... Yet I never succeed in making him angry... He continued to take care of me when mother and Allina was busy, and pampered me like I was a precious little treasure, it made me feel really weird and since I didn't how to respond to his attention, I started to beat him every time.

around six month later, or 2 week after the werebear incident, my brother who was looking after me, was smiling while looking at me playing with a doll.

"*Sigh* It's really quite pleasing to see, that my tempest of a sister can play normally..." (Shun)

"Hmpf!" I answered to is self talking with puffed cheek angered at the nickname he gave me.

"Oh? Could it be you're already capable to understand what I say?"

Of course i do, you dumbass.

"Mmm I wonder if you received a small blessing who gave you more intelligence? Now that I think about it your birthcard must have showed nothing since father wouldn't shut up about it if that was the case..." (Shun)

Birthcard? What is that? Suddenly the door of bedroom burst open and a loud gorilla pretty boy entered while laughing, his loud usual laugh.

"BWAHAHAHAHAHA! What about me son?!" (Orios)

"Oh nothing I was just wondering if Eva received a small blessing, but the birthcard didn't show anything no?" (Shun)

"... Birthcard?" (Orios)

"..." (Shun)

"..." (Orios)

"Father don't tell me..." (Shun)

"OHHHH SHITTTTT!!! Because of the shock that was yours, I completely forgot about this thing!" (Orios)

"Are you kidding me..." (Shun)

I wonder what this is about?

But my question was answered the day after as my father who took a beating from mother for forgetting something this important was able to take hold of one, and was now showing it at me, it was just a blank card with a red corner.

"Now my baby doll, push your little pretty hand on this red part." (Orios)

My father who had the bad tendency of talking in a creepy way when speaking to me, instructed me, and as I did as I was told, the card begun to glow and writing started to appear on it.

My father took back the card and his eyes widened...

"Let see... What does it... Wha" (Orios)

As my father was about to read it i took it away with magic and hid it away in my arms.

"Hey, what are you doing honey? Let papa look a it, ok?" (Orios)

My brother then stopped my father who was trying to get back the card.

"Father please stop, I myself remember how it was for my birthcard and if I could at the time, I would have hid it too. So let's let her keep it a secret." (Shun)

"Ahahahah! Yeah your's was the funniest of all!" (Old Pervert)

"Urg..." (Shun)

What's that about? Now I'm curious... But since he really saved me this time I won't dig any deeper.

"I see... If you say so son I won't try to force her to give it to me." (Orios)

Seeing as my father finally gave up I was quite relieved... Now to find where to hide this...
