《The Immortal Dragon And Dragon Girl》Chapter - 47

The days dragged on

The human girl’s Faun friend still missing

Presumably talking to his Faun brethren.

What are they talking about?

I do not care.

It does not affect me, one way or another.

But what intrigues me is how everything seems to be connected with the human girl.

So many events

So many things happening around here

It can't all be just coincidences

Or can it?

I have been thinking.

Trying to wrap my head around...

Her.

On the surface, she seems so...

Normal.

Nothing special about her.

But that is far from the truth.

Everything has been revolving around her, like some sort of walking disaster.

The Fauns reason for escaping? The Swarm

Why is the swarm coming?

Because she caused some sort of political turmoil within their territory.

And the lizardmen?

Well, she did make me move from my home. And in turn, taking away their, oh so glorious, god from them.

If everything that have happened so far was because of me, I would not have been too surprised.

But I had minimal, if any, connection with most of these events.

That is why I have found her so entertaining.

I need not act the role of a god to find entertainment around her.

I just have to stay close.

For example, that time when she almost caused a “Duel” to come forth from a simple misunderstanding.

A sacred ritual for the Centaurs that always ends with either party dead.

It is a pity that it did not come to that.

Annoying armored Centaur, taking away my entertainment.

Anyhow.

How does one person end up in so many... World changing events?

I have met with many creatures that have lived their entire lives, seeking such a pleasure.

Thrill of the world, they call it. A passion that few would survive, and even less experience.

The one who I met that had accomplished the most of these “events”, told me he had experienced three.

One of them, including me. Before I quickly ended his life for trying to poke me with a flimsy sword.

But if I have not counted wrong, something I could never do.

She has been in four such events. And that is only counting when I was included.

Who knows how many such events she has endured before I entered the picture.

When you think about how strong she is, I am guessing a few.

And one more thing

She seems... Immune to fire

My fire.

Or I mean, mine can still hurt her, I think...

What am I thinking?

Of course my fire can hurt her

I am the holder of the flame after all. There is no such thing that my fire can not burn.

But

She still managed to survive it.

Something that “that” god has only managed.

...

A memory I wish I could forget

A time I wish...

I could forget.

It has been two days now since the Faun left us.

And the Human has been avoiding most Centaurs.

Even avoiding the silver one.

But of course, she is not avoiding me. How could she?

I am far too amazing for such a thing.

But it has been rather peculiar off her.

She is one, if not the, most social Human that has ever interacted with Centaurs, Fauns, and Rats that I know.

But now she is, seemingly, not good at it.

At least if her words are an indication.

“Hey, can we like... Run away for a bit?”

She had said to me, looking down on the ground shamefully

Something I readily agreed too.

Even if I am a true master of disguise, it is still kinda nerve-wracking to continually use the spell

Not because it is hard. But these Centaurs are far too frustrating to deal with.

Just the other day I almost burnt a Centaur down to a crisp when he challenged me to a duel.

What do you think I am, Centaur.

I am no mere mortal who would entertain such pitiful thoughts.

Luckily, I managed to contain myself when I saw the Human playfully kick his ass.

Literally.

Anyway, back to the present.

Of course, I will take you away from here.

These Centaurs are nothing but annoying, anyway

And then I can show off my incredible speed.

Even when I am stuck here on the ground.

After running for a few hours, I felt that the distance was far enough away to stop.

Her temperament just oozed that she wanted to talk to me about something.

Having been camouflaged as a Centaur seems to have had their benefits.

For I have learned her social ticks.

When she is sad, happy and angry.

But even I have to admit that I can not learn everything about her.

If I could, I would already known her secrets.

For example, right now

I thought she wanted to talk in private.

But as we stopped, she simply jumped down. Sat down and embraced her knees as she stared off into the distance.

Sitting very still and totally ignoring me.

I guess I was wrong.

Well, when it comes to her, I am not surprised anymore.

So I settled down beside her, something quite difficult in a Centaur body

And waited.

Something I have grown accustomed to.

Something I can do too well.

Sun traveled the sky.

Having started low, it soon reached its peak.

But then slowly going down under the horizon again.

Painting the landscape, and us, in a bright red.

And finally, she spoke.

“Hey, do you have any friends you’ve lost?”

I froze at her words, both by the surprise of her talking and her question.

But quickly collected myself, nodding in response.

“It’s tough, right?”

I nodded.

“I’ve recently lost a friend. He was a really, really good friend.”

She embraced her knees, eyes fixed on the horizon.

“I had fun with him. And he seemed to have fun with me”

A breeze flew in, blowing her hair away from her face. Revealing a neutral expression.

“Do you believe in destiny?”

I thought for a second, looking up to the sky.

Then down to her again, shaking my head.

“I don’t either. Or at least I didn’t”

She said, looking towards, me but not at me.

“I’ve been told again, and again that I have a great destiny. A future so honorable and great that I might one day become a god.”

Her expression remained neutral, but her hands seemed to shake slightly.

“But what if I don’t want to become a god? What if I’m scared? What if the destiny I was told was something I truly despised?”

Now she focused on me, eyes pleading. But face still staying neutral.

Eyes locking on to one another, a battle to see who looked away first.

A battle she lost, looking back to the horizon. Holding her knees in a tighter embrace.

“My destiny was to kill someone. And when I set out on my quest, I firmly believed that I could change it, twist it into something good.”

Her eyes started tearing up, mouth sinking

“And once I met him, I thought I had done it. I did not feel some sort of weird compulsion to kill him, nor an abnormal hate for him.”

Words starting to waver a bit, embrace turning tighter, face buried in her legs.

“But I think I understand destiny now. It’s not made as a compulsion, but as a guide”

She closed her eyes, looking smaller than I’ve ever seen her.

“It tells you to do something not because you need to, but because it’s necessary. My entire life I’ve been through one bad thing after another.”

She then looked up to me, red nose and black eyes.

“My destiny threw me danger after danger, not to curse me or to kill me. But train me, making me strong enough to do what has to be done.”

Face turning grim and determined

“And you know what. I’m done with destiny messing with me. Even if what I have to do is horrible, I’ll still do it. I just want it to stop, I don’t want this anymore.”

Her face wavered, grim determination turning sad

Falling into her kneeling embrace, sobbing soundlessly

“I don’t want this anymore.. I’m tired.”

And day turned to night

She continued staring at the horizon even as the lights faded

Until exhaustion took over, and she fell limp to the ground

Squirming uneasily in her sleep.

I looked around, searching for someone nearby.

Seeing no one. Turning back to my dragon form.

Cuddling in close, holding her near my heart

Keeping an eye open,

Keeping her safe.

And soon she turned still

A small smile forming on her face

Her dreams turning sweater.

Sweet dreams Human

Sweet dreams.

Little girl.
