Scene 2 - Cockatrice

The clash between Mathis and the Cockatrice began off simple after it’s companion was instantly killed it grew weary of the two figures in front of it. Though despite is wary feelings the beast instincts of hunger consumed it’s reasoning and targeted the weaker being.

“Caw caw!”

With a battle cry, the beast sent his razor-sharp claw strike at Mathis’s head which he jumped back lightly evading just enough seemingly hoping for a counter attack. Readying his sword to stab into the exposed belly of the beast he noticed a glint of glowing eyes to his side.

Turning his head and shield arm to the attacking snakehead, Mathis deflected the head with his shield by crouching down then rolled back as an iron beak followed afterward. Quickly getting back into standing position Mathis charged back into the fight slashing at the monster right leg making an inch deep cut before backing off as the birds head smashed into where Mathis currently stood.

Len closely watched on as the fight progressed for a while and tilted her head in curiosity not understand Mathis attacks, ‘Why is he attacking only the bird's legs? Why not just strike the head and cut them off? Oh, right his sword isn’t strong enough or sharp enough to do that so he must be doing… Ah! I see! How interesting!’

Figuring out the reason how the fight was going to end Len smiled and relaxed knowing how the fight was going to end got a bottle of water and watched the fight of life and death unfold.

At this point in time, Mathis was breathing heavily, sweat pouring down his face and blood was running down his forehead from a nasty cut. Blood ran down his face almost covering his eyesight still he smiled despite being nearly exhausted feeling the verge of death’s hand contorting around his neck.

While his opponent the Cockatrice movements were slow and methodical, it’s legs bleeding and scarred up from Mathis’s countless sword strikes. It moved shakily forward the beasts bloodlust reaching untold levels of fury.

Breathing heavily Mathis readied his sword eyes sharp like swords, “Let's finish this you dumb chicken!”

Being called a chickened seemed to make the beast snap despite the states of its legs it rushed forward sending both heads at him from both sides. Seeing this Mathis’s eye glimmered dashing to meet it head on holding his sword and shield tightly.

At this point, Len had a bag of open chips watching intently whiling stuffing her mouth, ‘Oh! The final clash!’

Gritting his teeth Mathis could see that both heads coming at his face he covered his face with his buckler and yelled full of insanity, “AAAHHHHHHHHHHH!”

*Crunch*

*Smash*

Len dropped her chip bag her eyes wide, ‘What a move! He’s almost like Big Brother Vince in the way he treats his body.”

A strange scene had unfolded upon Len, in front of her lay the beast biting Mathis’s buckler its legs stumps with blood profusely bleeding from them with one of its feet stuck into the ground with a death grip.

Mathis lay on the ground bleeding from his chest with a large wound running all the way from his shoulder to the top of his belly button. Getting up from her seat Len went over to check out his wounds and then poured a tier one potion on his wounds.

His eyes that were currently closed opened up in shock as pain flared through his wound, followed by a soothing cool breeze. Len then spoke up offering a hand, “Lucky… Shallow wound…”

Grabbing her hand while blushing Mathis turned his attention away from her to focus on the still alive Cockatrice. Sword in hand He faced the hissing snakehead that threatened him to come closer, but he wasn’t afraid of the monster to know that was dying in its own pool of blood.

Step by step he moved closing into striking range of the snake tail, taking this chance the snake lashed out its mouth opened wide. Determination filled the boy thrusting his blade forward he pierced the snake through his head into the brain cavity.

Blood spewed all over his face drenching him, wiping the blood from his eyes he saw the limp snaking head lay dead. Meanwhile, the chicken head squawked in fear and anger, but the boy didn’t care and climbed on top of its body raising his sword above his head and pierced through its skull finally feeling the beast.

In its place three bronze talismans floated above its body, looking back at Len too see her head in approval, Mathis took the talismans and fell powerlessly on top of the chicken body tied. Before he could close his eyes Len poured a bottle of water over his face waking him up.

“What was that for?!”

Len beamed her eyes shining despite her monotone smileless face, “No… Sleep… The day still young… More monsters coming prepare…!”

Tilting his head up more Cockatrices could be seen in the distance running in their direction numbering into the dozens. Seeing such a scene Mathis started tearing up which Len thought was cute.

“You want me to fight more of them?!”

“No… Watch… Small fry…”

Standing in front Len moved her scythe around her body and started to create a sphere of razor sharp wind. By the time Len had finished her art, the small horde of monster where almost upon them which she didn’t bat an eyelash at.

“Done…”

Mathis’s eyes widened in shock as he watched the slaughter take place in front of him. Wave after wave of wind blades were sent into the unknowing horde of Cockatrices. Body parts started to fly left and right as the blue glow of the surrounding started to turn bright red as the moss got bathed in blood and feathers.

Not even a minute passed before talismans started floated in the air awaiting collection. When Len finished her massacre she turned to Mathis her head raised high her brown eyes sparkled waiting for praise, “Len strong… Yes?”

Shaking his head Mathis almost crying, “Yes! Very strong!”

He almost followed up with, ‘Don’t kill me please.’
