《The Nine Stars》Side Story 008 - Medical Garden

Within a garden that smelled faintly of medicine stood a fiery Rune and a crescent eyed Master Mo. Master Mo was pointing at plants and explaining what they were as they walked past them while Rune listened with rapt attention

When they reached a particular plant, Master Mo paused and cladding his hand in Qi to pluck a wilted leaf off of a strange blue and black ringed plant.

He placed the leaf within an iron bottle and held it towards Rune, beginning to describe the plant in detail, “You see, this plant is called the Black Ringed Death and grows within rainforests. It’s harmless when fresh, yet it's wilted leaves contain a powerful poison that could kill any mortal without a proper antidote within half a day. That means it's also powerful enough to bring extreme harm to the body of someone below the 6th realm of Heavenly Refinement, possibly even causing blindness and damaged nerves if not treated in time.”

Without another word Master Mo moved towards a patch of soft blue grass, picking a few blades and placing it in the bottle with the Black Ringed Death,“Now this plant is called Blue Abyss, and grows in grasslands. Remember this well my apprentice, the Blue Abyss is a dangerous paralysis-type plant that can affect even experts in the peak of the Heavenly Refinement Realm! Now, what do you think will happen if you mix these two plants?”

Rune thought before absentmindedly voicing her opinion, “They’ll make a more powerful poison?”

Shaking his head with a smile, Master Mo added some water into the iron canister and began to infuse his qi into it.

The bottle gave off a faint icy glow that faded a short while later. At this point Master Mo uncapped the canister, allowing a fragrance that made Rune’s mouth water to explode out of the bottle. Taking a strainer out of thin air, he proceeded to pour out his strange concoction into two cups floating in the air.

When finished, Master Mo took a drink from one of the cups without the slightest care, leaving Rune slack jawed.

After finishing the contents Master Mo motioned to Rune, “Try the tea disciple.”

“Tea?”

“I assure you, it tastes wonderful.”

Rune gave her master a strange look that said, 'Isn’t this poison?’

Nonetheless, Rune trusted her Master and drank the questionable concoction without hesitation. The drink tasted like wild cherries and lemons mixed together, and as the mixture entered her system she could feel the liquid moving through her veins like flickering lighting, filling her with unknown energy.

Bewildered, Rune turned to face her Master, “Why does this concoction fill me with energy, Master?”

Drinking another cup full of 'tea’, Master Mo eyed his garden, full of pride, “You see Rune the path of poison is also the path medicine, the only difference is how you use it.

You're gifted as well as cursed, my apprentice. Your path is destined to be one of an Asura, and those who walk that path are destined for slaughter and revolution.”

Listening to her Master talking about this 'Asura’, the question which had bugged Rune for quite awhile once again rose in her mind.

With a questioning gaze, Rune spoke slowly,“What is an Asura, Master? And how do you know that is my path?”

Master Mo gazed into his tea and sighed, “There have been many Asuras throughout the fables of history, all of which brought mass slaughter and revolution while walking on their paths, be they mortal or cultivator.

As for why I know about your path, the Gods spoke to me in a dream. With that knowledge, I thought of giving you this tea in hopes that once you grow stronger you always remember that poison can also become medicine.”

Rune stood there confused, “How do they know I'm an Asura?”

Stroking his beard Master Mo answered thoughtfully, “They didn’t tell me, but I can only give you the knowledge that every Asura that has existed on this plane was always driven by some form of vengeance.”

Standing quietly Rune mumbled, “Is vengeance really a bad thing?”

Hearing Rune’s question, Master Mo stood thoughtfully, occasionally taking sips of his tea and not responding for a long time, “Many people voice that vengeance will only bring sorrow to those that seek it. Others say vengeance only brings upon more vengeance. I, on the other hand, say that those who seek vengeance are the only ones to figure out its worth.

Will it harm your heart if you don't achieve it? Are you preventing another tragedy from happening? Can you exist with your hatred? These are the questions one must ask themselves.

I do not know about your past disciple, and I cannot control your future. I can only guide you on your path of cultivation. “

Master Mo poured another cup and handed it to Rune before walking away, “Now come disciple, let us see what what your siblings are doing.”

Rune didn't move, instead of pondering her master's words, about her fragmented memory, and about her vengeance.

As Rune stared at her cup, her eyes flashed and eerie green, her blood boiling like lava as she thought about that faceless boy within her memory, ‘This hatred cannot be quelled without a bloodshed! He must die!’

“Are you coming, disciple?”

The wrath in Rune’s eyes dissipated like mist as she hurriedly followed after Master Mo, yet a faint flicker of rage burned ever so quietly within her soul.

Idea: Rune Walks together with Master Mo in the Medical garden.

At this point I wanted to show more interaction between master and disciple while fixing/ tearing out the walls this is what struck to me as something fun to write.
