Side Story 004 - The War Pen
Two youthful women walked through a large room filled with mountains, rivers and forests. The 'sun' within the room shone down brilliantly, creating many breathtaking views that only became more stunning when one of the various exotic magical creatures roamed through them.
The two women were never attacked on their stroll, and some of the magical creatures would even come up and nuzzle their hands, asking to be petted.
While they walked along a stone path one of the women, Marley, would point out the types of magical creatures they came across to Xue, “Look over there junior apprentice sister! That’s a Jade-Fire Bear, a descendant of the Jade-Sun Bear who was rumored to eat stars.
And that up there floating in the sky is a Sky Sea Mummy Fish, father found that one wounded on one of his travels and nursed it back to health. Apparently it came from the reverse element plane located connected by a Sky Sea door.”
Xue gazed at the creatures in awe, having never seen or heard of any of these majestic beasts. She pointed off in the distance towards two fighting birds, “What are those birds senior apprentice sister Marley?”
Marley moved her gaze towards the direction Xue was pointing in, and a strange expression appeared on her face, “Oh those trouble makers. That's a Porcupine Sparrow at the Galu 13th stage facing off against a Two Tailed Green Jay of the same stage.
The Galu stage is the magical creature's equivalent of the human’s 13 stages of Qi or Mana, meaning that these two birds could kill you without much effort. As I see it, it’s a mating fight to show that the Porcupine Sparrow is worthy of the Two tailed Green Jay.
The two are close to breaking through into the foundation realm, which would give them a chance to evolve or awaken their bloodlines. The reason why the Porcupine Sparrow is challenging the Green Jay now is that it knows that this is the only time that the two will be evenly matched as the Green Jay cultivates at a much faster pace than the Porcupine Sparrow. Come on, let’s watch the fight. It’ll show you how dangerous these creatures really are.”

The two women found a nice rock that overlooked the small meadow the two birds were fighting in to sit on. Xue stared at the birds, hoping not to miss a single exchange between the two. The first attack actually came from the Green Jay as it arrogantly chirped, “You want to marry me, Ti Su? Not even in your dreams!” A beam of green energy came shooting out of its beak, heading towards the Porcupine Sparrow with a blinding speed!
The Porcupine Sparrow gracefully dove from the air, its wings filling with an earthen energy that added weight to increase its diving speed, making the beam completely miss Ti Su.The little bird then changed directions and flew forward, skimming across the ground, its gaze filled with pride, “I will make you acknowledge my love Shai Xu, or my name is not Ti Su!”
Chirping in rage when its attacked missed, the Green Jay gathered energy into its two tails and shot out a giant wave of jade green energy, “You and I will never be together, give up already!”
Ti Su grit his beak as a stream of wind mana flew out of his body and mixed together with the earthen mana in his wings, sending himself into a spiral heading straight towards the green wave. It was do or die, he would either break through the wave and gain a mate or die trying!
Xue’s mouth opened wide in awe. This battle came off as dazzling to the eyes and the passion she heard from Ti Su moved her heart, causing her to root for the small bird! Ti Su condensed into a green and brown spear that flew flying straight and true, crashing directly into the center of the giant wave and causing it to warp around him.

It seemed all was over as the wave slowly enclosed him within until Ti Su loudly chirped, “BREAK!”
A sudden gust of energy burst out of the little guy and broke through Shai Xu’s attack. Ti Su closed the distance in an instant and tackled Shai Xu, pinning her under his strong wings and bringing them beak to beak, “I’ve come to make good on my promise to marry you!”
Shai Xu fruitlessly struggled within Ti Si’s grasp, yet it seemed half hearted. Eventually she closed her eyes and chirped lowly, “Why can’t you forget about me? I’m not worth it.”
Ti Si’s feathers fluffed up in displeasure, “You have always been worth it! I will show your parents that I am worthy of you, then no one can complain about us being together!”
Shai Xu stared in shock, “Don’t do it Ti Su, they will kill you!”
Ti Si didn’t listen, he got up and in the heat of the moment took off in a direction Xue assumed to be Shai Xu’s parent’s home. A heart clenching pain filled Shai Xu’s small body as she rushed madly after Ti Si.
Xue didn’t think before she started moving in the direction Ti Si vanished in, only to be stopped by Marley, who had a weird expression on her face, “What’s wrong, Junior Apprentice Sister? Why are you going after them?”
Xue gave her a funny look, “Didn’t you hear Ti Si and Shai Xu? He’s going to get killed by Shai Xu’s parents for asking to wed their daughter!”
Marley was dumbstruck and then seemed to remember something, “Oh yes, I forgot you can understand the language of beasts because of your soul affinity. How could I forget? Sigh... I wanted to show you the three precious eggs my father acquired, but oh well. Your Senior sister will help them out.”
A slightly pouting Marley wrapped Xue up in her energy and sped off after the two birds.

Obligate of a Self-Ordained Sorcerer
Come join the Discord! It was a typical late-night friday for Mara, secluded in her apartment in front of a digital expanse, relentlessly mashing code into a keyboard. An introverted workaholic, but this was what she wanted - what she had strived so hard to achieve. So why did she feel so lost? Her life was productive, comfortable, satisfying. Plenty had it worse but she still felt... ungrateful? Stunted? The right word escaped her, but she could feel the general revelation settling upon her. With it came a choice that would set events in motion far beyond the meager scope of a 'New Game+'. So taking an intrusive portal to god-knows-where, Mara will come to find that her new world offers boons and banes with equal abandon. Magic, skills, and unforgiving difficulty. For a frail human shut-in, finding herself stranded in the middle of a sprawling dungeon was one of the least desirable outcomes. Food and water would be the least of her problems, why oh why couldn't she just get summoned by some pervy king to slay a demon army or something? This is a story of magic and adventure with skills and stats galore. A litrpg / isekai epic that I've been inspired to make after years of wonderful works like "So I'm a Spider," "Rimuru the Slime," "Azarinth Healer," "Negima!?," and plethora of other isekai and fantasy novels and animes. Special shout-out to Douglas Adams, a big influence on narative humor that's had a non-insignificant effect on my writing style. I hope you enjoy joining Mara on her journey as I attempt to scratch the itch they left behind.Chapters target 3-6k~ words. Though I'm personally aiming for a chapter every couple weeks, I think I can at least promise one a month with how busy work's been. I made a Patreon due to requests, if you'd like to support me there I'll be using it to fund artwork and RR ads for increased exposure.
