《We failed but grew》Chapter two

3rd POV
It was the day after Candy and Noya had died. Gisei slowly sat up, looking at the empty space beside him since he normally slept with Candy and sighed. "So, it's not a dream." he mutters, touching the empty space. Gisei sighs, stepping out of the bed, making sure his dad's covered up before walking out of the room. Katsuki was still asleep, but he wasn't getting good sleep. A maid approached Gisei, "Young Mister, breakfast is ready," she whispers. Gisei just nods, since his mind was elsewhere. The main nods, leading Gisei to the kitchen, saddened that a child his age looked so sad.
Meanwhile, Dokuro woke up and brought her knees to her chest, she just laid there, beside her father feeling empty. Her father was still asleep, he looked just as exhausted as when he was awake. She decided to get up and walk around, not sure where she was headed. The mansion was eerily quiet. Dokuro was walking around, not sure what to do. A butler approaches Dokuro, "Young Mistress, would you like to join Young Master Gisei in the dining area?"
"I'm not hungry," Dokuro mutters.
The butler nods "you don't have to eat," he whispers.
"Just don't tell daddy," she whispers.
The butler bows "as you wish mistress." Dokruo walks to the kitchen, even though she didn't even want to smell food.
Gisie looks up when Dokuro walks in "hi," he mutters. He looks down at his plate "they made pancakes" he mutters, poking it.
"Stupid food" Dokuro mutters, as she stares at it.
Gisei nods in agreement, "don't even know why I'm here." He sat there for a few moments with a scowl on his face, "it's too quiet!" He rasps out, bringing his knees too my chest, as he cries softly.
"Stop reminding me," Dokuro mutters.
"Sorry," Gisei mutters. Dokuro sobs some more.
Shoto's POV
I slowly woke up, and shot up, immediately looking to my side expecting Noya to be there, only to let out a sob, when I remembered what happened. No one layed there beside me, as I pulled my knees to my chest and cried silent tears. I did however feel a spirit hovering around me. "Shoto" the voice whispers, and it sounded just like Noya.
I jump, whipping my head around "Noya?" I ask, not even bothering to wipe my tears.

"Yes, but I don't have much time," she says softly.
I took a deep breath, gripping my hair, "I must be hearing things" I mumble and sit up, "but please go on."
"I didn't get a chance to tell you something, before I passed." The voice says, and I grip the blanket, nodding, showing I was giving my full attention. "I want you to promise me that you'll find happiness again," the voice continues and grabs my hands, sending a chill down my spine.
I tensed up, remembering the foreign feeling of her hands in mine, I shake my head "your not here anymore" I sob.
"No I'm not...." the voice says softly, "which is why I want you to find happiness again...Shoto please!" The voice continues, as it begins to fade.
I squeeze my eyes shut, more tears begin to fall "I- can't-" I choke out. "Please...don't leave yet...I'm not ready."
"I'm sorry Sho...I just wish I could have done more for you...I want you to find happiness" the voice whispered, but this time it completely faded away.
I cried harder, feeling the presence of her spirit completely fade I...I'll try my best...sweets" I whisper, knowing that's the last time I'll use that nickname. I closed my eyes, falling back down on the bed, "a little... more sleep...wouldn't hurt..." I whisper, closing my eyes, tears falling endlessly down my face, as I fall back asleep.
Gisei's POV
I look around the kitchen, not sure what to do "how's uncle holding up?" I asked, Dokuro.
"I don't know...I haven't gone to see him yet," Dokuro mutters.
I nod, "dad didn't look any better since last night" I pause, pointing to my eyes "bags and all."
Katsuki's POV
I woke up, feeling for Candy. When I remembered what happened and that Candy wasn't there, I started to sob again. I start to feel a sudden presence, spirit type thing around me, I hear it sigh, like it's sad that I was sobbing or something. I feel it place a hand in my hair, threading it's fingers through it. When I felt this presence, I stopped sobbing and looked up.
The presence continued to comb it's fingers through my hair, using the wind to blow a soft tune, and I swear it felt like Candy was here with me, I know it's crazy but I swear. "Candy?" I ask, softly. I felt the spirit smile, and move his hands from my hair to cupping my cheeks. I froze and whispered "is it really you?" I then felt it move so that it could squish my cheeks gently, and I felt the tune grow louder. "Candy, please come back to me," I whisper.

"I'm sorry," the spirit whispers.
"No, I'm sorry....it should have been me," I whisper.
I heard the tune grow into a mellow tone, the spirit holding my hands tightening his grip, "I need you to promise me something."
"What is it?" I ask, curiously.
"Promise me that you'll live, don't go on like this," the spirit whispers, holding my hands even tighter.
"I can't just move on" I whisper, more tears fall down my face.
"Then use the time that you have," the spirit whispers, "this isn't the end of your happiness."
"How could I be happy without you here? I love you."
I felt the spirit lean in and peck my forehead "you can move on, you just have to let me go and treasure the memories that we share."
"I don't want to." I whisper, more tears fall down my face.
The spirit slowly starts to fade, "I can't stay here forever love," it whispers, as the tune goes softer as well.
I start to sob more "Candy, please come back."
"I'm always with you, right here," the spirit says, placing it's hand on my chest, where my heart is, "and here" it says, pecking my head, letting it linger a bit before pulling back.
I tried to reach out for his hand, and the spirit gently clasps my hands in his "please remember the promise, and try." It says, slowly fading away, the tune of the wind slowly becoming a gentle tune. I layed there and sobbed silently as the spirit completely faded away, and I think it was using the remainder of its power to keep the tune going, hoping it would somewhat confront me, knowing Candy, he'll wanna confront my heart and soul. I just continued to sob, since I wasn't sure if I could uphold the promise.
3rd POV
Gisei closed his eyes, wanting the dat to just go by quickly. Dokuro was just looking down at the ground. The soft tune that Katsuki had heard, filling the heavy atmosphere with a light tune. "Do you hear that?" Gisei asks, sitting up and alert, Dokuro nodded, and they saw Kiwata finally come out of their room, probably to follow the tune. The tune was still playing as the spirit came back although it was slightly weaker.
Kiwata walked into the kitchen, still following the tune. She looked horrible, like she had gotten no sleep, and had a blank look on her face "do y'all hear that?"
Gisei nods, looking around, "I wonder who's making it."
The spirit had opened its mouth, mustering as much strength as it could, "help your fathers" it whispered.
Dokuro freezes "what did it just say?"
"Help them find happiness again" the spirit says.
Gisei shoots up "that's papa!"
"Help them find happiness again?" Kiwata mutters.
"Stay with them, they're going to need all the love they can get" the spirit whispers.
Dokuro nods, "I wish, I could help make them happy."
"You will" the voice whispers, as it slowly fades away. "Know that Noya and I love y'all very much."
Gisei clenches his fists, tears falling down his face "papa!"
"Uncle come back! Please!" Dokuro shouts.
"I'm proud I get to be your papa and your uncle, and I'm sure Noya would be proud she got to be your mom and auntie" the spirit says, fading away, once again using the remainder of its energy to keep the tune playing.
Gisei turns to the side, his eyes wide, tears flowing down, "that was papa right? Does that mean he's ok?"
"I think so," Dokuro mutters.
Gisei jumps down from his chair "So he's alive? Please tell me he's alive."
"I don't think it means he's alive, I think it means he went wherever you go when you die peacefully" Kiwata says.
Gisei looks down, his fists clenching, "so he's really gone? This just confirms it" he whispers, his body shaking slightly. Dokuro and Kiwata nod, looking down at the ground. He rubs his face "I'm going to check on dad" he mutters, before walking out of the kitchen. Dokuro and Kiwata stayed where they were.

No matter what, their choices will bring forth a new era for Mendala. ------------------------------ If you love vast fantasy worlds, rich, fleshed-out characters, and a adventure where your'e constantly discovering new things along the way, then this is definitely a story you'll enjoy. This is a slow-burn high fantasy / adventure with many characters and intersecting plotlines. It’s a quest so lots of adventuring, exploring, and character moments, but not a ton of fighting/action (though there are definitely some great fight scenes as payoff to the buildup). Because it’s a fantasy world with lots of people and new concepts, I try to make it easy so that you don’t have to memorize anything. The narrative will constantly remind you of important people/places/concepts as you keep moving forward. Some things won’t be fully explained right at the beginning to avoid information overload. My goal is that the reader will learn things organically as the story progresses. I use two mechanisms to help with the intersecting plotlines. - Each chapter is named for the (main) plotline it’s following and which part. - At the beginning of the chapter, and anytime there is a scene shift, the location is listed. Also, though this is definitely a portal-fantasy (isekai) it’s different from the standard isekai, especially since the world transfer doesn’t happen immediately. It’s not Lit-RPG but characters gain powers and grow over time. Also, it’s a group of teens that transfer, not just one central character. All of the teens are distinct characters, with their own character-arcs, relationships, powers, growth etc. Hopefully you’ll find this interesting as you’ll see the world and story from multiple perspectives. The story is always in 3rd Person (Omniscient) POV so that it’s not jarring as perspectives shift.
