《We failed but grew》chapter one

3rd POV
Candy laid on the cold hard floor, blood pouring out of his mouth, a small puddle straying to form under him. Katsuki was holding Candy in his arms. “Why?” He whispers. “After everything we’ve been through, why is it ending like this?” Candy opened his eyes, ignoring the blood dripping down the side of my face, he reached a hand out slowly bringing it to his face. Katsuki had tears running down his face, “I love you so much Candy...I’m sorry.”
Candy gave a weak chuckle only to end up coughing, blood gushing out of the side of his mouth, he took a breath. “...s...so...sorr....sorry...lo...;love” he says, and you could tell he had to force the words out, fighting for every breath.
“Shhh, don’t speak,” Katsuki whispers, caressing his cheek with his thumb.
Candy hummed, clasping his hand. “....” He wasn’t able to speak, the one thing he wanted to say so badly, alas it just came out in tears, which fell down his face, turning red as they hit the fresh blood on his cheek. “I’m so sorry” Kat repeats. Candy squeezed his hand with all the strength he had left, giving him a smile, ignoring the white light that he saw. “I love you,” Kat whispers once more, trying not to cry.
Candy took a deep breath, mustering all the strength he had “I...love you...too...so much… Katsuki… Ba...ku...go..” he trails off, the colors going white, he knew his time had come. Katsuki just held his hand tightly as Candy’s body went limp, his hand that was in Katsuki’s grip released his weak grip, his eyes fogged up. Katsuki let out a sob and started shaking.
A few feet away Shoto was cradling Noya in his arms, sitting her on his lap not caring if he was getting soaked in blood. Noya was laying there, going in and out of conusinous as she coughed up blood.Shoto shook his head “please...please hold on…” He cried holding Noya close, his phone beside him showing the words ‘We’re on our way sir.’
Noya held his hand tightly “I-I’m s-s...orry sho”
“Please, don’t, save your strength” he whispers, wiping the blood that’s on Noya’s chin.
“I-I lo...ve you” Noya whispers.
“I love you so much Noya” Shoto says, softly squeezing her hand “to pluto and back” Noya chuckled a bit, and coughed violently. “Shhh, don’t, save your breath” he whispers, cupping her face.
“Sho...this is it, I-I can feel it” Noya mutters.
Shoto shakes his head, fat tears falling down his face. “No, don’t talk like that, you’ll make it” he cries.
“No, I won’t…” Noya whispers. “This is how I go...after all the shit I’ve been through, just please...please promise me you’ll take care of Kiwata, Zagae, and Dokuro.”
Shoto nods, tears falling down his face. “I’ll do everything in my power to protect those two.” He pauses, sucking in a breath “and I’ll treasure our memories,” he whimpered.
“I love you….Also, please tell the kids, I love them.” Shoto nods, holding Noya’s hand to his chest, letting you feel his heartbeat, hoping it’ll help you stay calm. Tears fall down Noya’s face as she takes a sharp breath in, knowing this one was her last. Shoto hugged her close, as a scream left his throat, rocking her limp body back and forth, endless tears falling down his face. Noya just layed limp in his arms, as her eyes rolled to the back of her head.

Shoto pulled back, looking up through the hole in the roof, the night sky on full display. “Why…?” He whispers out, more tears falling down his face. “Why now?” He gasps out. “WHY HER?” he screamed, his voice filled to the brim with pain and sorrow. “Why us…?” he whispers, dipping his head down, placing it on her forehead, his breath wavering when he felt Noya’s skin slowly get colder. Noya didn’t move as she just stayed limp. Shoto ignored the thundering footsteps that we’re heading this way, nor the shouts of “sir” that filled the heavy air, nor the helicopter hovering above them, all he felt was Noya’s cold body in his arms, the blood seeping into his clothes.
A few feet away Katsuki was holding Candy close and sobbing, not caring if anyone saw. “Why now? Why after all we've been through? This is how he goes? It should have been me” he whispers.
Denki stopped in between the two of them, they were both yards away, yet so close, he looked up “if only I was stronger” he whispered to the night air, as men pushed passed him, heading to their kneeling bosses. The men huddled around the two, all of them carrying different medical equipment, ready to help.
Shoto chuckled, standing up “those are useless now” he whispers, holding Noya in his arms, carrying her body bridal style.
“You're too late! Your fucking too late!” Katsuki growls at them.
The men around Katsuki looked down “we’re sorry” one of them said.
Denki stood at the back, an arm over his eyes as tears slowly fell down his face “if only...I could’ve stopped them” he whispers. Katuski just growled at the others, as he held Candy in his arms.
“Sir we’ve got to go back, it’s not safe here” the second guy said.
I’m not leaving him!” Katsuki growls. Shoto was slowly walking back to where the men had come back, a dead look in his eyes, the men parted a path for him to walk.
The men looked down, some were crying, and one of them approached Shoto “sir…” he started.
Shoto growls “keep that damn mouth of yours shut!” The men looked down, taking a step back, letting Shoto walk pass.
Denki watches as Shoto walks by and sighs “do your best to get Zero-sama off the ground. The heroes are coming” he said, pain filling his eyes.
The men nods, rushing over to Katsuki “sir please, we have to go, the heroes are coming.”
Katsuki growls, picking up Candy’s lifeless body “fine let’s go” he mutters, walking out. The men all followed, some of them staying behind to make sure no traces were left behind, only leaving a bullet or two on the floor.
Shoto was already on the chopped, headphones on his head. His head was dipped down, sometimes growling when he saw hands reaching towards Noya’s body. Katsuki just wouldn’t let go of Candy’s body. Denki hops onto the helicopter sighing “Bakugo please wear the headphones” he whispered, already wearing his. Katsuki rolls his eyes, and takes the headphones putting them on. Denki nods, bringing the mic close to his mouth. “Wheels up!” He said, through the mic. The chopper started to rise , turning it’s lights off to blend into the night sky. Katsuki held Candy closer while this happened.
Shoto stared off into the distance, the sounds around him muffled, the only thing on his mind was the fact that he’s cradling Noya’s cold body, as tears fell down his face his reality crashed down. “...They’re...gone…”

Katsuki looked down “why, after everything they’ve been through. Why must it end like this?”
Shoto shakes his head, squeezing his eyes shut, “this must be a nightmare.”
“Punchu me, maybe I’ll wake up,” Katsuki suggests. Shoto removes his hand, lifting it up, he throws it to Katsuki, punching him square on the cheek. “Damnit, it’s not a dream” he grumbles.
Shoto brings his hand back, biting his bottom lip. Denki closes his eyes, not wanting to watch both of his bosses fall apart before his eyes. He took a deep breath, knowing what he was about to say was risky, “we should...plan their funeral” he whispers.
“Shut up!” Katsuki shouts, as he begins to sob again.
Denki shakes his head, opening his eyes, small tears falling. “You can’t hold them forever Bakugo.”
Shoto growls “your not taking her.
“You can’t have him!” Katsuki growls.
Denki looks away, taking a deep breath, “you’ll just have to treasure the memories they gave you” he looks back at them “let them rest.” Katsuki starts to shakes, and Shoto looks away, tears falling, he bits his lip to quiet the screams wanting to escape.
“How are we gonna tell the kids?” Katsuki asks, in a whisper.
“I don’t...I don’t even want to think about it” Shoto sighs.
“They're gonna be crushed…” Katsuki mutters.
Shoto nods, “we should...make the schedule... “ he whispers, closing his eyes, rubbing Noya’s cold arm with his thumb, flinching at the loss of heat she normally radiates. Katsuki nods, as he holds Candy close to his chest.
Denki closes his eyes “I'll handle that” he pauses “We’ll clear your schedule for you to mourn” he mutters.
“Yea...thanks…” Katsuki mutters. Shoto nods, looking down at Noya’s cold face, gently caressing her cheek, pushing some hair back behind her ear, pecking her forehead, his lips lingering for a moment longer than normal before pulling back, a tear dripping onto her cheek. Katsuki looked down holding candy close to his back, as he rubbed his back.
The helicopter flies them back, slowly landing on the helipad. Denki opens the door, nodding at Katsuki and Shoto. “We’re here” he said, hopping down. “There’ll be people outside to take them to incubate. Please let them.”
“NO!” Katsuki growls, taking off the headphones and getting out of the helicopter. Shoto gets off as well, a tight hold around Noya’s body.
Denki sighs “Please Bakugo, you have to let them have the bodies. Please” Katsuki doesn’t let go of Candy. Denki sighs again “Bakugo please, let them go, they have to get their bodies cleaned.” As Denki was talking, two beds rolled up beside him, four men beside each bed. Shoto took a step back, pulling Noya closer to his chest.
“You can’t have him” Katsuki growls.
Denki lifts his hands up, “if both of you keep holding them like that, they’re going to grow stiff like that” he pauses biting his lip, reluctant to say what he was thinking “they’ll also get bruised up.” Katsuki growled at Denki. Shoto’s eyes widened, knowing that what Denki is saying is true, he slowly relaxes his hold, opting to just hold you as close as he can without holding too tight. Denki furrows his eyebrows, “I know you're in pain, but please, you can’t go in like this!” He exclaims, “you still have you kids” he whispers, “they’re waiting for their dad’s.”
Katsuki gives in and gives Candy to two of the men and falls to his knees sobbing. Shoto walks over to the bed, gently laying Noya down, biting his tongue to keep his sobs in. The two men bowed, bringing the body to the bed, laying it down. The men wheeled the beds away, after laying a thin sheet of cloth over the bodies. Shoto crumples, falling to his knees, a loud sob ripping through his throat. Katsuki was sobbing so loud, he was almost sobbing. Denki looked at the other men, nodding. “Let’s give them space” he whispers, walking away. The men nodded and followed.
TIMESKIP TO THE HOSPITAL
Shoto sat up from the hospital bed, grabbing a coat to throw over his bandaged body, graining as some of his wounds flared up. Katsuki grumbled in pain, as he too got out of his hospital bed and stretched, ignoring the pain that flared up “let’s go home.”
Shoto nods, “I’ll get a car” he said, humming as his side screamed at him. Katsuki nods, and grabs his stuff.
A nurse stood up “Sir! Please stay in bed, you’ll reopen your stitches!”
“Look lady, Icyhot and I are going home, now MOVE!” Katsuki growls.
Shoto growls as well, pushing past the nurse “shut it!” he says, walking out. The nurse just stood there, baffled that they could still move with how deep and severe their wounds are. Katsuki stomped out after shoto.
The nurse presses a button “Charge Bolt! They’re moving!” she called through the walkie talkie. Denki curses, rushing towards the garage, hoping to intercept them. Shoto stops a few feet away from the car gate, spotting Denki.
“Is Denki driving us home?” Katsuki asks.
Shoto shakes his head, studying how Denki is standing in front of the gate. “No, he's here to stop us” he growls, seeing the scowl on Denki’s face.
“Damnit…” Katsuki grumbles “if he tries to stop us, he must have a death wish.”
Shoto growls, clenching a fist. “Move Denki!”
Denki shakes his head “I can’t do that Todoroki. Not with the state both of y’all are in.”
“We’re going home and that’s final! Now I suggest you move before I explode you into a million pieces!.”
Denki shakes his head “I can’t do that Bakugo” he said, tiny sparks flying around, pressing the emergency button on his phone, calling Shinso.
“Denki we have children at home, now MOVE!” Katsuki hisses, as small explosions emitted from his hand to warn Denki.
“Katsuki!” Candy’s voice filled the air.
Katsuki freezes hearing Candy’s voice. “C-candy?”
A few feet away Shinso was hiding somewhere, making sure to be out of sight and range. Shinso hrins taking Katsuki under his control. “Sho!” Noya’s voice followed.
Shoto stops, the frost cloud dying down, he whips around “wh-where are you?”
Shinso grabs Shoto as well, he jumps down from a tree, running to Denki’s side. “Are you ok?” He asks, Denki.
Denki nods, and turns to Shinso “we should get them back to their room.”
Shinso nods, taking a step forward, “go back to bed, you can leave when you’ve healed up.” He commands.
Katsuki grabs his stuff, his eyes empty and heads back up to his hospital room. In the back of his mind, he was busy thinking about Gisei. Shoto follows, laying back down once they got back to their room, closing his eyes wanting to reach to his phone to call the mansion, wanting to check up on his daughters and son, but he didn’t have the energy to fight Shinso’s quirk.
Meanwhile with Shinso and Denki, Shinso turns to Denki “that was too easy” he whispers, grabbing Denki’s hand.
Denki nods, “they probably didn’t have the energy to fight your quirk.”
Shinso shakes his head, bringing Denki’s hand up and placing a kiss on it. “I would know how they feel,” he whispers.
Denki pulls Shinso close to him “I just hope they're ok after all this, I can’t bear to see two of my best friends broken like that.”
Shinso nods, placing a kiss on Denki’s forehead. “Let’s just offer our support as much as we can.” Denki nods, agreeing with him. “Come on, let’s get dinner” he whispers. Denki just nods again, following him out.
Meanwhile at the mansion Dokuro, Kiwata, and Gisei were sobbing after they heard the news about Candy and Noya. Gisei shakes his head, tears falling. “Papa can’t be dead!” he screams.
“Mommy…” Dokuro mutters.
Gisei shakes his head some more. “Please! Please tell me you’re lying!” He shouts at their long time nanny Tsu. She shakes her head, looking at the ground, causing Kiwata to sob more. Gisei falls down, landing on his bottom, pulling his legs to his chest. “Papa…” he whispers, silent tears falling.
Dokuro was shaking “mommy…” she repeats. The newborn Zagae was laying in his crib not exactly sure what was going on, but could sense the sadness in the air, and started to cry.
Kiwata was hugging her knees to her chest “No…” she whispers “this can’t be happening again...not again...I can’t lose any more loved ones.”
Gripping his hair, a scream left his throat, as more tears fell, he shot up, slightly wobbling, he chokes slightly “I wanna see them.” He whispers out, hiccuping afterwards. “Please!” he adds in a whisper.
“Their bodies are being prepared at the moment. -Kero” Tsu says, softly.
Gisei nods, looking down “I’ll be in my room.” He whispers, running to Candy’s old room.
Kiwata had stopped sobbing, she couldn’t cry anymore, she had no tears left. “Mommy…!” Dokuro shouts, sobbing, and trembling.
Tsu looked down, “I’m sorry, -Kero.” Kiwata just layed there on the couch. Tsu covered her mouth as small sniffs leaving her. Dokuro just cried more.
A few hours later Gisei slowly walks to the front door, hands in his pockets. “They’re here” he whispers. Tsu comes down with the baby in her arms. Dokuro and Kiwata slowly walked to the front door.
Out in the car Shoto stayed in the car, watching as the men pulled the coffins out of the other car, wheeling them to the back, where they set up the temporary memorial. Katsuki stayed in the car as well, staring out the window. Shoto sighs, closing his eyes.“We...should get down” he mutters. Katsuki just nods and gets out of the car, with a blank look on his face. Shoto follows, stuffing his hands in his pockets, slowly walking to the door. Katsuki opened the door to the mansion and went inside.
Gisei looks up, shifting on his feet. “Welcome home” he whispers.
“Hey Gisei,” Katsuki mutters, whispering. Shoto followed Katsuki inside, kicking his shoes off, walking over to Tsu, he looked at Zagae, gently rubbing his cheek. The baby cooes at Shoto. Dokuro and Kiwata didn’t move, they just stood there, too numb to feel anything. Gisei walked up to Katsuki, gripping his pant leg, unshed tears in his eyes. Katsuki picks Gisei up, holding him closely, trying not to cry, he whispers “I’m sorry.”
Shoto slowly took Zagae from Tsu, bowing slightly, he walked over to the two girls. Dokuro looked up at him, crying. Gisei shakes his head at Katsuki, “it’s true?” he whispers, clenching Katsuki’s shirt in his fists. Katsuki just nods, not wanting to speak. Shoto sits down, holding the baby in his arms.
“I miss mommy…” Dokuro mutters. Gisei bit his lip, a quiet cry leaving his mouth. Katuki just rubbed Gisei’s back softly, trying to comfort him.
“I miss her too, princess.” he whispers, tears falling down his face. Dokuro was shaking and crying. Shoto lifts an arm up, the other one holding Zagae who was crying, since he was able to feel the gloomy aura that was floating around the room, “come here princess.” Shoto whispers, a tear falling down his face.
Gisei shakes his head, why?” he whispers. “Why did he have to go?”
Dokuro crawled over to her dad, and got in his lap, crying softly. Kiwata was laying on the couch, staring at the wall. “I don’t know Gisei…” Katsuki mutters.
Shoto wrapped an arm around Dokuro “I’m so sorry” he whispers.
“Mommy…” Dokuro mutters, “why would she just leave us like that?”
Gisei was shaking, tears falling like a waterfall, “why? Why didn’t you make the sacrifice again?” he asks, weakly punching Katsuki’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry Gisei...Dr. Hinata didn’t get there in time.”
Shoto shakes his head, “Princess she’ll never leave us like that.” He pauses, thinking back, “there was just so much blood” he whispers, pulling Zagae and Dokuro closer to him.
Gisei shakes his head at his dad “you promised. You promised when you proposed to him! You said you would keep him safe!” He shouts.
Dokuro shakes her head, “but she did leave! She’s never coming back!” She shouts, then in a whisper she says, “I’ll never see her again.”
Shoto nods, more tears falling down. “I’m sorry princess, I tried, I tried.” He took a deep breath, “she was in my arms, I’m sorry” he mutters, his body slowly starting to tremble. Dokuro was sobbing, and Kiwata was trembling.
Katsuki looked at Gisei, “I know I did, and I’m so sorry”
Gisei couldn’t hold it in anymore and sobbed, grabbing onto his dad’s shirt. “I want my papa!” he cried out, hiding his face in his dad’s shoulder.
“I know” he whispers, “I know.”
Shoto closed his eyes, tears falling faster. “How could you let her die?” Dokuro asks, sobbing.
Shoto shakes his head “I didn’t want her to die, I called the medics, but they didn’t make it in time.” He whispers, “I tried to stop the bleeding, but there was just so much.” He cried out, a quiet sob leaving his lips. Dokuro just sobs more. Gisei wrapped his arms around his dad’s neck, his small body trembling with every sob that left his lips. Katsuki just rubbed Gisei’s back softly. Shoto pulled the two close “I’m so sorry princess. I wasn;t strong enough.” He whispers, holding Dokuro and Zagae close.
“I miss her...I miss mommy!” She cries more.
Shoto nods, “I know princess, I know.” Kiwata was just staring at the wall, she had already gone through this once, she didn’t wanna go through it again, her usual happy self was now gone. Shoto placed an arm under Dokuro and stood up, lifting her and Zagae up with him. He walks over to Kiwata, and sits down in front of her. “...” he stays silent, not sure what to say. Kiwata hadn’t even registered that they were in front of her. Shoto pulled the arm around Dokuro out, gently placing it on Kiwata’s knee, rubbing it. Kiwata was sniffling, and Shoto continued to rub her knees, “I’m sorry” he whispers.
“I miss them” Kiwata mutters.
Shoto continues to rub her knee “I’m sorry” he repeats. Kiwata hugs him and cries softly. Shoto rubs her back, adjusting Zagae that was on his arm. The room had a very gloomy aura to it, as they sat there.
Meanwhile Denki pressed his phone to his ear, “Hawks, I would like to cancel all future meetings for this week please.”
Hawks answers “Alright.”
Denki bows, not caring if he looked stupid, “Thank you” he said before ending the call.
Shinso looked over at Denki “How’d it go?”
Denki stands up straight, sighing, “It’ll be quiet around here” he whispers.
Shinso nods, “The energy they once had is gone.” Denki nods, laying his head on Denki’s shoulder. Shinso puts an arm around Denki.
Denki sighs, “Come on, I still have some papers to settle for the funeral.” Shinso nods, and walks out, pulling Denki with him.
