《Magic Monsters Money》Intermission: Inside the Second Carriage

After Key gave instructions, everyone started moving. At that moment, Ghena, Lapis, and Jane with Marie went to the second carriage per instruction.
A few moments later, everyone was waiting for further instructions from Key as the caravan started moving. During that time, Ghena, Lapis, and Jane were inside the carriage while looking after the sleeping Marie.
It was very quiet, not because there’s nothing to do nor talk about, but because of the new slave, Lapis. She’s been staring at Jane for a long time since the time they entered the carriage.
Currently, Jane and Ghena are seated side by side while Lapis is on their opposite side. And for about half an hour, both Jane and Ghena are having a problematic situation.
[WHY DOESN’T SHE TALK?!]
Both of their thoughts are screaming out loud from their expressions. Since a while ago, no one dared to talk because of the air Lapis is making. It’s a very awkward air that negates all possibility to let anyone talk. And because of that, Ghena and Jane are too scared to do so. Not to mention, they can even barely breathe.
On the other hand, the carriage moved smoothly on the paved road. The sound of the wooden wheel running above the ground was the only sound inside the carriage. Also, the sound of the leaves clapping on nearby trees was making the awkward vibe inside the carriage worsen.
Lapis’ emotionless stare is giving them a weird sense of pressure that pushes their breath back down their lungs. Ghena and Jane held each of their free hands while shaking unconsciously. While in the opposite side, Lapis is just sitting silently with both of her hands on her knees.
No one dared to speak, not until a certain sound came out that startled everyone besides Lapis and the sleeping Marie.

*Grumble*
A sound that symbolizes hunger roared inside the carriage.
It made Ghena and Jane look at each other. After confirming that it didn’t came from either of them, both switched their gaze towards Lapis that didn’t show any signs of talking nor moving.
Since Jane has Marie on her lap sleeping, it was impossible for her to suddenly stand up. Seeing that situation, Ghena stood up in her stead and talked to Lapis.
“Uhm… Lapis was it? Are you perhaps, hungry?”
And without saying anything, Lapis nodded lightly to her question.
“You haven’t anything yet for a while now have you?”
*shakes head*
Since Lapis responded expressionlessly but energetically, Ghena assumed it that this was her way of communicating normally to other people.
Just what was Key thinking when she bought her? Were the thoughts running through Ghena’s mind.
After that, Ghena then walked to one of the crates that contain food. There, she took out a brown bread and poured milk from the jug beside it.
“Please, eat it.”
When she handed over the brown bread to Lapis, Lapis didn’t receive it and tilted her head while looking at Ghena. Because of that, Ghena herself imitated Lapis and tilted her head.
“She’s probably thinking why you took it without any consent from Sir Key.”
Jane let out her thoughts on the confused Ghena. After that, Ghena couldn’t help but smile at Lapis.
“Don’t worry. Your master is a nice person. He wouldn’t get angry over something like a piece of bread.”
Ghena shook her hand that is holding the Bread as if saying that Lapis should take it. And of course, Lapis couldn’t reject such good will and received the bread.
When she started nibbling unto the bread, for some reason, Ghena and Jane can imagine Lapis having cat ears. Because of her soundless actions and emotionless responses and if you add the way she nibbles the bread, anyone would without a doubt see Lapis as a cat.
“Cute…”
I wasn’t known who muttered that word. But since both Ghena and Jane’s attention are at Lapis, they probably have the same thought.

Shrike
He wants to play the latest and greatest VRMMORPG game, but he can't muster up the cash for the fancy new proprietary hardware and membership license. After months of saving up cash and arduous work, he has built a behemoth of a machine relying almost entirely on seedy old technology and a DIY guide by some dude named "Jimmy Bob." This is the story of his entry into the game. This is also a story of intrigue, exploration, introspection, batshit crazy game design, and unintended but entirely predictable consequences. This is G.C.O. Undergoing a total re-write, mostly because I think things were too rushed rather than any content or direction changes. If you are one of the few who tried Shrike when it was briefly updating, consider giving it another shot. Of no relation to either The Great Crusade or the recent (in 2017 lol) Shrike book for Warhammer by Games Workshop. All similarities in these cases are superficial; please don't sue me. Feedback welcome and encouraged, never be afraid to review or comment. HQ/Kindle-Grade cover art. Book Cover 2.0: "From the Dark"

Ashen Skies
Father. Allfather. He who was crowned twice. It has been ages since you have ascended. Since you were crowned with godhood for a second time. Since you have left an empire for us to dwell in, to defend. I yearn for an answer; why have you forsaken us! With you gone, your people have grown weak, complacent, and proud. Proud of who they are, proud of their blood. That pride blinds their eyes and clouds their minds. They are fools, for they have forgotten the ways of the past. They have forgotten the fears of old. The one you had to bind until the end of the time. They have forgotten the dark beast with red jewels for eyes. The Wargr gnaws the walls of his cage even now as I write. Itching for the taste of blood. I ask for forgiveness, for until a while ago I too was one of them. I thought I saved your children from the foretold doom. I now realize the hordes of foes we buried were just like us. No fearsome beasts, no harbingers of doom. Mortals of different flesh, different kind. But I am awakened from that dream now. I see it. Every time I close my eyes, I see it. The cold descends as the Dark walks the land, And the crimson stars shine beneath, as the ashen storm claims the realm. I hear the beast roar as the chains of Rukh crack, Only then I know. Only then I realize. That it’s the end. Descend to earth one more time. Save the puny souls that are us. If not, if you let my dreams come true; then will all die under an ashen sky. Leol, a son of Vaella
