I closed my eyes and steeled my will. My knees had already turned soft and my entire mind was just screaming in panic, telling me to give up the crazy plan that I was about to execute. Actually, it wasn’t just my mind that constantly told me how stupid I truly was. My entire body shook as if to stop me from this absolute madness.
Despite that, a slight smile appeared on my lips.
I opened my eyes and looked at the puddle on the street before me. My muddled reflection stared back at me. Two dark grey eyes and a common looking face with short dark brown hair lining it. It was a perfectly normal young man that looked at me. Perfectly normal if you did not notice the slight madness that whirled in his- my eyes.
As the rain continued to fall and soak my jacket, I looked over at the street and watched the endless rows of cars speed by. Hundreds of thousands of these motorized piles of steel took this road every day and yet there were hardly any accidents that happened in this part of the city.
Well, I guess there would be one today…
My smiling expression hardened as the realization hit me.
I was planning to die. God, even if my plan would work and I managed to reach that place, my body in this world would still die, traumatizing whatever poor guy would be the one to hit me with his truck.
To make this clear, I’m not suicidal and to be honest I believe myself to not be crazy.
Yet I was about to throw myself in front of the next truck that would come by. Yet I had spent the entire last year preparing myself to put everything on line and die today.

I had learned basic self-defense and took courses in both swords fighting and shooting with a bow or gun. I had learned to cook with the most basic tools and to survive in the woods with basically nothing on my body. Heck, I had spent hours in the library studying various technologies and sciences in case they might become useful at the place that I was trying to reach.
All of that was for this day, to jump in front of a truck and be reincarnated into another world.
Damn, I am crazy. I realized this- as despite the fear and logic in my head that told me that it was an absolutely stupid idea, an idea sooo unbelievably idiotic that it could only have come from a mentally unstable mind- I was still going to do it.
I, a usually perfectly normal young adult with slightly above average grades and an unhealthy obsession for Japanese pop culture, would try to mimic the main character from some badly written isekai novel and kill myself for the vague hope of being reincarnated into some other world filled with magic, adventures and hot girls.
The sad part about all this was that as cold and good logic was about to win against the enchanting fume of fantasies that had driven me to this absurd plan, just as I was about to give up and return home to my little flat and the life as another relatively well-off student visiting the local university, I saw a truck driving at about 80 kilometers an hour coming right towards me.
Without my consent, my body waited for the perfect moment giving the driver of the truck no time or chance to evade…
Then I jumped right in front of the truck.
My body felt like an old, feeble ragdoll as the tons of steel, plastic and whatever that truck had loaded slammed into me, instantly deflating my lungs, then crushing them into a meat paste and breaking my ribs, shoulders and finally the spine. A brief moment later the shock overwhelmed my brain and I had lost conscience, spare of feeling the pain of having the rest of my body turned into a squishy paste only held together by tendons and my skin.

This is how I died. A stupid death with a stupid reason and an even more stupid result.
Guess what…
Somehow, I truly reincarnated into another world!
What can I even say now? At least this novel is going to have a name befitting of an isekai novel!

Erica Moore was offered the chance of staying herself during her next life, but decided that an unknown cost was too high a price to pay. In trying to get some peace from Faustian bargains, she accidentally got herself stuck outside the cycle of reincarnation. Aided by an eccentric gardener-goddess and armed with lifetime of stories, Erica will have to earn each new life. She will need to navigate identity as each new life changes her, and if she wants an overpowered reincarnator cheat ability, she will need to build it herself. The concept for this story was influenced by Vladerag’s The Many Lives of Cadence Lee, QuietValerie’s Ryn of Avonside, and the relentless stream of new worlds that my brain dumps on me. I hope you enjoy, and thank you for reading!
8 102Hellfire Across the Heavens
Three centuries of FTL space travel has spread the people of Terra far across the stars and for nearly half a millennia people have asked the question, "are we alone in the universe?" The answer to that question is a resounding no. To one side, humanity is boxed in by an ancient empire whose light has burned up long ago. To the other, is a federation of alien races known as the Senate. Mankind rejoiced the knowledge that they were not the only life in a cold dark galaxy. But as first contact was made, ET's who transited into the Warp seemed to disappear without a trace, technologies traded with the other races malfunctioned or refused to work entirely, and simple translation errors led to grave misunderstandings. Before long, humanity was outcasted by the Senate and relationships soured, but even still the sons and daughters of Terra worked hard to earn the respect and trust of the Xeno's.
