《Caves of Gods》6: Leaving the Island

Journal,
Tomorrow is the day I leave this island. I asked him where we can find the scrolls. He answered with Wales. More specifically, he said off the south shores of Wales. I wonder if I can soak the books enough to ruin them. I have five books. I don't need any of them. I'll try reading today. The books are about the ocean and islands. Maybe I could use them. I don't want baggage. I wonder if the captain misses them. I always gave my dad the books back so, I wonder if the captain just thought they were lost and my dad found them. I wonder if he thinks he lost books again and my dad was grieving so, he wasn't himself. Maybe, the captain didn't notice but, he definitely has noticed.
I don't know how to spend my last day on the island. Write now it's morning so, I have until night to spend time. I could try making all the meals. I could also try to walk around the island and document it. I could do both. Abaddon hasn't woken up today so, I'll make breakfast. I could make a breakfast that includes fish. Sliced raw fish with a few fruit seasonings. That sounds nice. I'll make it for Abaddon too. I'll make breakfast for tomorrow too.
Journal,
I made breakfast for Abaddon and me. Abaddon said that the breakfast was too sour. I ate it for myself and yes it was. I asked him if I could make breakfast for tomorrow too. He answered with yes. I don't know what fruit it was but, they were red and small. I bet I could make a fruit salad for me and Abaddon as an appetizer or as the main meal. I have three different types of fruit that I could use. Well, I have found six types of fruit but only three are safe to eat.

You know, I wonder what my school friends are doing right now. If they remember me, they're waiting for me right now. I had three friends, Theodore, Nick, and Harvey. Nick was the nicest. When me and my father were the poorest Nick gave me his lunch to eat at dinner. He wasn't rich but, his family had extra money. Enough extra money to help my dad and me. Harvey was the worst. Harvey always cheated and once got me in trouble through that. Although he was the worst, he was good at sports. I wasn't the best at sports but, I was very fast. He knew how to use me to win. Me, Nick, Harvey, and Theodore always won. Theodore was the smartest. Me and him were academic rivals. Well, technically me, him, and Tabitha were academic rival. Tabitha was his sister and the prettiest girl in school. She never sat with us. She always sat with her three friends. Theodore was always a little smug but, Tabitha was really nice. Along with Nick, she helped me and my dad.
Theodore and Tabitha were rich. Although Tabitha was nice, she was a little spoiled. One time, we were given cookies at lunch and Tabitha wanted two so she complained to the school. I saved that cookie to share to my father. Tabitha's father spoiled her and Theodore. I know this because I went to their house sometimes. Their father was always cold towards me. I should have clarified that Theodore and Tabitha had blonde hair, green eyes, and ivory skin. Their father had the same features and their mother had green eyes, carrot hair, and a natural white tan. Their father was always cold towards Nick too. Nick has dark brown skin and dark eyes like me.
Tabitha was probably my first crush. I never told her however, one night we kissed. We were studying for test while Theodore was playing sports with Harvey. Tabitha told me that her all her friends all had kissed boys before. I asked her if they were lying. She said that maybe but, it wasn't nice to snitch on them. I then said that we could kiss if she wanted. Tabitha agreed and we shared a kiss. Honestly, if we were reunited, I probably wouldn't have those feelings. When I left to live on that boat, I didn't have those feelings.

Nick, Harvey, and Theodore hugged me on my last day at school. Harvey hugged me so lose it seemed like he didn't care that much. Honestly, I don't miss him so much. Nick hugged so hard I didn't have enough will power to hug back. I hugged Theodore hard but, not enough that he couldn't hug back. Theodore tried hugging me harder. I tried hugging harder too. Nick and Harvey had to separate us apart. Nick and I laughed it off. Nick asked if he could walk with me to my house. Even though we lived nearby we never walked together. I said I would walk alone. I went home and grabbed my bag. After twenty minutes me and my dad got home and we snuck me in.
I should start planning lunch. I'll make a big fruit salad. The sweet and sour should blend well together.
Journal,
Abaddon and I just ate. It was a nice lunch. I will make dinner with coconuts and shrimp. It's the best meal I can make and it's our final meal. Abaddon allowed me to make dinner. I have a few hours. I can follow Abaddon and see what's he looking for. He seems more hurried and worried than ever. I follow him. I run instead of walk. Abaddon seems to turn his head every few seconds. When I see the evening sky turn red. I go back. I run as hard as I can run. I make it to the hut.
I make dinner and in a few minutes Abaddon comes. After Abaddon is done eating, I go to the shore of the island. I try to enjoy my final hours of me awake on the island. Then, I see my mom again. I thought I just hallucinating the first time. I run to her. Then I try to touch her. I can't. I go back to the hut and come to write. The last few hours of my stay will be me sleeping.
Journal,
I'm on the southern shores of Wales. Abaddon and I will find a place to stay soon. I'll tell you the story of how we got here.
Abaddon and I woke up. We got packed and Abaddon told me to ride him. I rode him. He went so fast. In an hour, we got to the southern shores of Wales. At first, I was worried and scared. After thirty minutes, I started feeling more confident. I let go a bit of Abaddon's neck and got into a confident position. Abaddon turned into a human with dark brown hair, tanned white skin, and brown eyes when we got to Wales. We went to a nearby restaurant and got breakfast.
I'll write into you when I can.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
