Magical Skills
Innate Sense: 1
What in the world is Innate Sense? Jessica asked herself, and suddenly a definition appeared directly under the word.
Magical Skills
Innate Sense: 1
Description: The ability to sense magic around you.
“What is magic?” She asked, but this time the system didn’t obliged her with a definition. “Hmm. What about this other stuff?” She asked but again, no definition appeared. It wasn’t until she concentrated on an individual word that the definition box reappeared.
Magical Skills
Description: All skills that pertain to or require the use of magic.
She went through and looked at all the different descriptions available to her. Nothing really shocked her, mundane skills where skills that didn’t require magic. The only major revelation was when she concentrated on Unassigned Levels.
Unassigned Levels: 7
Description: Unassigned levels are levels either earned, or granted by the system that have yet to be realized.
Do you wish to upgrade to level 1 now? Yes / No
“What is a level? She asked, but no help came. Sighing, she sat there on her bed thinking about it. She was curious, she always had been. It was one of the innate aspects of her personality that drove her to such levels of success. She knew this about herself, and yet as she sat there looking at the blinking options Jessica knew she was going to give in. “One level shouldn’t hurt. . .”
Welcome to the galaxy Jessica Brown! You are the one of the first humans to realize a level (#936,725 out of 7.674 Billion). As such, the reward for all realized levels is doubled or increased in quality for the next 24 hours.

Level Up!
Reward: 12 (6*2) free Characteristic Points. 10 (5*2) free Skill Points. Permanent access to the Mundane Skill Store. Extra Reward: Access to the Magical Skill Store for 24 hours.
“What? Okay. Let me take a look.” She pulled up her characteristics sheet and saw little plus (+) signs next to the three with a flashing 12 next to the numbers. “That must be how many points I have to spend, I guess. This is like that stupid dragon hunter video game that Rony forced me to play last time I babysat him. Sky-dim, Rim-world or something like that. Hm. That means if I spend these points I'll get smarter, faster, or better at reading people. Kinda. That game was pretty complex.” She talked to herself as she read the descriptions of each characteristic again before selecting Mental Acuity and increasing it by 1 point.
Jessica waited to see if anything changed. When nothing did, she shrugged and added two more points to Mental Acuity bringing it up to 19. She felt herself grow less tired, like her brain got an energy boost, and could think a little clearer despite how tired she knew she had to be. It was nearly midnight, the day after her graduation, barbeque, and all the stress of the new ‘system’ thing. But here she was, feeling like she had just woken up from a refreshing nap. She could feel her feet still aching, and her body’s exhaustion. But her mind was as sharp as ever.
“Okay that’s weird.” She put three more characteristic points into Mental Acuity and felt like she could tackle an entire night's worth of philosophy homework in an hour. “Wow. That gives a new definition to ‘mind blown’ i guess.” The points didn’t make her smarter, but they did make her thought processes faster. She thought and comprehended faster than she ever had before. The closest experience she had to this was that one time when she was taking the ACT. Time seemed to slow down as her stress levels went sky high and then suddenly seemed to disappear. She later found out it was called takipsykia or ‘sticky time’. That same feeling of nearly pure clarity was what she experienced now.

She shook it off, and her mind returned to its normal default state. “Huh. I can turn that on and off now?” She tried getting back into that mindset, and found it was difficult, but possible. “Okay, that’s cool.” She studied the prompts and information on her screen again, and realized that she didn’t need to use her scores right away. Instead, all she had to do to maximize the benefit of the 24 hour window was spend her level ups. “Then tomorrow, I'll ask Rony about it on the car ride up. He’s always been good at those types of games, I'm sure he can help me here.”
With that, she accepted every level up, ignoring the windows as they popped up in her vision. When she was done she found she had a total of 78 characteristic points, and 70 skill points available. Before she closed her screen she saw two blinking boxes trying to get her attention. With a thought the first one opened up.
Congratulations! You are the first member of your species to reach levels 6 and 7! As such your rewards for these levels are quadrupled and or the quality of all additional rewards is increased by a factor of 4.

Instantly she saw her characteristic points shoot up to 102, and her skill points increase to 130. “Uh, okay. That math is kind of scary.” She said to herself as she closed the windows, put on her PJ’s, and forced herself to get some sleep. As she drifted off to troubled dreams, she promised herself that she would speak with Rony about all of it on the car ride up to grandpa's farm.

The Head That Wears The Crown
It's a tale as old as time. Boy goes to funeral. Boy gets sucked into a different world. Boy has to lead a settlement. Boy has to lead a settlement? Boy has to lead a settlement. This is a story about that settlement, and some other stuff. Maybe. Disclaimer: Not sure if it qualifies enough for a gore tag. There is a description of someone's death somewhere in this, but I don't think it is descriptive enough to justify a gore tag. Disclaimer part deux: I initially started writing this as background for another story but got so into it I just ended fleshing it out a bit. Disclaimer part tres: People love reading disclaimers don't they? It's why I've included so many. They're just for you. Disclaimer part four: I know, this is getting egregious. You're starting to find it less funny. Just wait till the twentieth disclaimer, it will start being funny again. Disclaimer part five: I'm kidding, this is the last one. I don't promise I'll read every comment or message, but I certainly welcome your feedback. Disclaimer part six: I lied, it wasn't the last one. I wrote this story without breaking it down into chapters. It just goes, that means that the chapter ends when it ends, not when there is a convenient break in the story. That means that it's very annoying for you as a reader since chapters can end mid sentence. Hah! Sucker! Disclaimer part seven: Get ready for slow updates. Who knows when this will continue. Toss it on read later and come back in fifty years. Disclaimer part eight: Cover Photo by Arthur Ogleznev on Unsplash
