《Leslie's Poems》empty house

an abandoned isle and a wavering sea

looking to waterline, you wish for some respite from the never ending heat

a desert in the middle of nowhere

doors open and close, and this one is locked tightly and the key?

the key was swallowed by god a long time ago

you just want to get home now

no matter how unwelcome you are now

no matter if that welcome put you in a rotten cell

you can feel it building up your chest

dry, crackling thirst, bleeding skin and burning flakes

the desert reminds you of home

so you carry on, a little bit longer

but whatever was home?

but where was home?

a familiar face never left you a letter nor a note

you hobbled into the forest, limping and whimpering

injured, you did nothing but feel the ocean swim around you, carrying you far away again

how haven't you died yet?

you had come home, right where you left it, and found it empty and you found that someone had locked the door when you came in

a trap, you realized

but there was no running now. your legs had carried you as far as they could, your breath as long and deep

abandoned in place

left in a beautiful little display

like a rose in a cage

the doors weren't locked though

you had collapsed on the stairwell, unable to keep pushing forward in an empty house
