《Song of the Phoenix》Chapter 41

Fei Fei arrived at the conclusion that Baihe was planning to curry favor with the Old Witch by using this magical red snapper even though the bitch was a complete apothecary trash. Too bad, you shouldn’t leave your precious things lying around randomly.

With an uneven smirk on her face, Fei Fei quickly walked back to her own furnace in high spirits. She wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth and the best thing about this mermaid pearl necklace was the unnecessary hassle of a blood contract with the ancient artifact.

As long as an apothecary has it somewhere within their possession, the person would be able to utilize its special effect, but Fei Fei chose to adorn her neck with the jewelry instead.

Gingerly, Fei Fei removed the eyes from the magical red snapper and slowly placed it inside the furnace that was already prepped with medical plants. In a slow, controlled motion, she used her spiritual power to gradually grind the components together.

Perspiration stuck to her fair skin as Fei Fei meticulously monitored the heat temperature and constantly inserted a steady stream of spiritual energy into the pill furnace. The mermaid pearl necklace was capable of immeasurably increasing the success rate and quality of medical refinement; after two days, Fei Fei successfully produced a low grade vision restoration pill.

Joy overwhelmed her; Fei Fei looked at Prince Zhao, who finally gave her some sign of acknowledgement even if it was only a nod of his head. Incredibly pleased with herself, Fei Fei proudly went to search for the Old Witch with Prince Zhao escorting her.

Hidden among the greenery, two pairs of eyes watched silently as if expecting a good show.

“Elder, knowing the condition of your eyes greatly pained me. As such, I worked endlessly for two days to painstakingly refine this —”

Before Fei Fei could even finish with her sickly fake dialogue, the Old Witch had boorishly snatched the vision restoration pill. At this moment, Fei Fei had a face as if she were constipated.

Is this Old Witch really blind? Why does she have such good accuracy when it comes to looting treasures?

Although Fei Fei was annoyed, she was smart enough not to voice her dissatisfaction; especially when the two of them were so close to being free from this prison. After being trapped in this place for a few days, she could barely feel her inner energy; it already took more than half her strength to maintain her current upright noble posture.

After consuming the low grade vision restoration pill, the Old Witch was able to faintly see shapes and outlines in front of her; despite her sight being blurry, the Old Witch was still elated. How many years had it been since she could perceive color?

It was too bad the pill quality was low, so her vision was still terrible. The Old Witch could barely make out the silhouettes of the two people standing before her, but now there was hope. Immediately, she decided to keep these two cockroaches as hostages and have this pest continuously refine one for her until her vision was fully repaired.

She was just about to put them back to work when her face suddenly changed; the Old Witch swayed and staggered, nearly dropping down to the ground if it weren’t for the support of her cane. Her yellow teeth chattered in pain like a thousand ants digging into her gums and there was an acute cramp spreading from her abdominal.

By now, Fei Fei and Prince Zhao knew something was wrong and instantly backed away; the Old Witch was so livid, smoke could be seen fuming out of her nostrils.

“You vile pests! You dare to scheme against me inside my own home! DIE!” the Old Witch accused as she simultaneously used her wooden cane to release a powerful shock-wave with the strength of a Peak Dao Stage 5.

Unfortunately for Fei Fei, with her previous internal injuries and insufficient inner energy for protection, the bloodthirsty force behind the shock-wave had directly demoted her cultivation level to Early Dao Stage 2; the same level as Baihe. If it weren’t for Prince Zhao saving her at the last second, perhaps Fei Fei would have already crossed the river of forgetfulness.

Looking at the passed out woman in his arms, Prince Zhao felt irritation crawling up his skin. Lately, Fei Fei had brought him nothing but trouble! If it weren’t for her special family background with their connection to the mermaids, he wouldn’t have taken such risks to save her.

As a result, Prince Zhao coughed out a mouthful of blood; his face white and pale. Luckily, he’d been meditating to dispel the colorless miasma inside his body while Fei Fei was busy doing all the labor work. Because Prince Zhao had recovered enough inner energy, he was able to shield against her first attack.

The Old Witch had gone mad. In a fit of rage, she’d forgotten to control her strength and launched another powerful shock-wave; rows of cauldrons preserving human corpses shattered and Prince Zhao was sent flying through the air.

Since the Old Witch was still very much blind, she didn’t see how severe the injuries on her opponents were; after all, she still had plans to keep them as pill manufacturing slaves. If only she knew that the vision restoration pill was refined by using her most precious magical red snapper, she would have physically beaten them to death with her wooden cane to vent her anger.

Suffering from a belly of fire, the Old Witch wasn’t done punishing the two insect couples for their transgression and prepared for another attack, but how could Prince Zhao allow her to do so?

Prince Zhao knew he would soon end up as a dead corpse if he didn’t at least fight back and he had no plans of dying here. Where would he put his face as the future ruler of the Feng Empire?

Deciding to stake all in one throw, Prince Zhao valiantly fought against the Old Witch. With his life on the line, he didn’t dare slack off as one small mistake could lead to his death.

Fireworks exploded all around as spiritual energy clashed with one another, releasing colorful sparks. Initially, the Old Witch should have easily been able to squash these two cockroaches beneath the sole of her feet, but the poisonous pill she consumed gave Prince Zhao the edge he needed to fight on even grounds.

Soon, the Old Witch doubled over from the excessive abdominal pain and puked out black blood. Using this window of opportunity, Prince Zhao landed a heavy palm strike, sending the Old Witch flying backward through the air until she collided with a tree.

Her worn out body along with the pitiful tree landed on the ground with a loud thud — the wooden cane two meters away from her location. From the ground, the Old Witch sensed the killing intent coming from Prince Zhao as he leaped toward her.

With her hands, the Old Witch quickly tried to form a seal as she began chanting; but her lungs suddenly constricted in pain from respiratory failure. She spasmed on the ground nonstop while helplessly clutching her heart.

Feeling danger creeping closer, the Old Witch was filled with a sense of despair as she could do nothing about her imminent death. With resentment embedded in her heart, she gritted her teeth to finish the incantation; a fatal spell landed on Prince Zhao’s right arm before her eyes rolled back, turning completely white and departed from the world.

Amidst the chaos, two figures emerged safely from the shadows. Prince Zhao, currently on his knees from exhaustion, did a double take when he saw them — especially Baihe. Was the woman trying to seduce him by showing so much skin? Both of her arms were exposed!
