Chapter 158 – Journal Entry 8: Sewer Trouble
Following the elvens in the sewer was quite something, they were sneaky about it, and no sound could be heard from them as if they were shadows. I was good enough not to make a sound. Surprisingly Grom despite his metal clad appearance was able to sneak without noise.
The sewer passages are actually quite well made. Most of the foundation is composed of carved stone and bricks that aside from the stench of the water that flows in the middle, the place was good enough for people to actually live inside it.
The tunnel is well lit. I could see the passageway quite well due to this blue lighting. I wondered what the blue light was but they were too hard to figure out. I could not see the cultists in front of me. Right now I am merely following Leona and her elvens who marked the cultists. My information about their hideout apparently worked well for them.
Before we headed into this sewer passage Leona contacted her other subordinates into raiding the hideout. Right now, we are just following the first cultists that are trying to do something inside the sewers. Miss Leona didn’t give me any information and left me in the dark.
Good for her to make a bystander follow me in an unknown part of the city. I didn’t have any reason to be here yet here I am forced to follow these elvens. If it wasn’t for Grom being with me right now then I would have left in excuse.
Speaking of Grom, he seems to be more bothered than I am. I thought that he of all people would be fearless but as far I can see he is more annoyed that I found myself in this situation. His stare seems to be implying that I troubled Elena or the Mistress of Fernery Island.

I could not answer. There was no way for me to speak at the moment. Indeed it was my fault that I slipped up, and told Miss Leone about the Mistress of Fernery Island. The Mistress seems highly regarded, and now that I think about it, she either has a huge influence or crazy powerful. But it could be both, considering that Fernery Islands owns a golem production line that allows Elena to be so smug.
She could even allow Grom to be that violent in the Argos Company without any trouble simply because of the Mistress of Fernery Island. Elena told me that the Argos Company is quite powerful in its own right. But Fernery Island and her Mistress seems powerful enough to scare a company.
Seeing the Mistress shouldn’t be that easy, and now that I think about it. I have been pretty lucky that I was able to somehow land a job working for Fernery Island. Though I wonder if I will be fired the moment Grom tells Elena about this.
I don’t really know anymore if I am lucky or not. But at the moment, the stink on the sewers flooding my nostrils carried by the cool wind coming from the front of me made me strangely mindful, there was something wrong in the air.
I tilted my head.
I observe the scene in front of me. Leona and her elvens suddenly dodged, while Grom got blown away into a nearby wall. A beast about seven feet tall rushed up, it’s covered in fur, have antler horns and have claws that are about seventy centimeters long.
This beast slashed its claws towards me. I bend my body to the left while drawing my sword, which allowed me to wound the beast with a slanted slash, before putting my sword back into my sheath. The beast bled blood, it retreated, but before it can be near me, I drew the double barreled gun on my back, pointed it at the beast’s head and pulled the trigger.

Boom!
The sound of a gunshot rang out. It echoed around the sewer passage but when the smoke cleared. I saw the beast who tried to kill me have its face skinned. I thought I won but the beast’s skin and flesh started regenerating and seeing this, I could only roll back, took two buck shots barrels from my leather pouch, reload and fire again.
Boom!
Another shot rang out, but this time it spread across the torso of the beast. It didn’t stop the beast, it merely growled in fury as it pounces at me. I couldn’t move with my current position, and when I thought I would be soon dead. Suddenly, a figure rushed and kicked the beast away from me.
It was Grom.
He seems to have recovered and seeing him mount the beast. Clawing it with those sharp fingers of his, I could see that Grom was trying to skin the beast’s face. The beast roared, and it grabbed Grom and smashed him on the floor. Grom tried to dodge, but the beast was able to stomp on him, making him throw up blood.
The beast tried to squash Grom’s head but Leona and her elvens shot glowing arrows at the beast. The beast stumbled back and before I know it vines filled with thorns surrounded the beast, shredding the beast from inside out. It was a rather gruesome death.
I thought it was all over. But when I turn forward and saw the five more beasts growling madly, with those cultists behind their back made me take a step back. I reloaded my doubled barreled firearm and took a deep breath. It looks like I am in big trouble.
But oddly I could not feel any fear. I thought that I should have one by now, but oddly with how I expected fear, I only got this kind of fear. I might have guessed what’s scares me the most too much. Now, despite facing these beasts and their robed owners made me feel disappointed.
I may be suicidal or just pure jaded. But seeing the beasts rush, and their owners casting something, I thought that I should put up a fight if I somehow die.

Journey of my Core
I have a hard time referring anything that I write to as 'Original'. The longer we as a species exist the harder it is to be truly original, I am certainly influenced by all that I read and watch Including but not limited to J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, and all of the stories here on Royal Road. From the start the MC is only able to comprehend the most basic of what is impacting it with very little to no understanding of the MC's surroundings. There may be updates in the future, but I am in no way a consistant writer. I will never claim to be the best artist, but I drew a representation for my story. Procrastination... Procrastination... Procrastination... Procrastination... Procrastination...
