Chapter 143 – Will of Protection 3
When the undead girdled dragon landed on the castle, the inquisition protecting the king immediately came out. Like willing pawns, they came after the dragon willingly. The battled raged upon the castle, and the people in the open fields can only stare in wonder.
The monsters in the opens fields approached the people there, the earth was shaking again, but it was enough for the people to fight and defend themselves. They could not hope for any better conditions that they have right now. So bitterly they fight while enduring the shaking world.
Ramiel fought with his repeater in hand, he saw a disgusting meat humanoid attack him but with a lunatic smile, he cut the monster as if it was nothing. It was because of the curse on the right arm that allowed him to do so, but because of this curse, despite his newly found strength, he was suffering. He was seeing floating words strongly than ever and the only thing he could do was keep his mind sane. Madness was still growing into him. He had the power to defend himself yet such changes were happening on his head. Ramiel would have grown crazier if it wasn’t for the person watching his back.
He could fight at the moment using shortsword, crossbow repeater with finesse simply because of his new found focus. Ramiel was desperate to protect his light of hope, so when the monsters came he would defeat them using his weapons. He might be strong now but it didn’t mean he is stronger than the lesser beings. He was buffed up indeed, but he isn’t in the same tier as Peronell who could accurately dispatch any lesser beings with her seeking bolts. She was used to hunting monsters like these, and with her experience, her accuracy as a magick archer gave everyone an advantage.

With her clear strength, the bishop and holy men supported her. She became quite a figure that unconsciously led the people in the open fields. Peronell knew that right now her heart was wavering, always keeping an eye at Ramiel who was bearing the curses that should have dropped them. She couldn’t see through his curse anymore, it became more of a lone energy that totally mutated into a malediction.
Yet Ramiel wasn’t bothered by this malediction, and this causes Peronell’s heart to wave. She kept on battling, however, in order to live. Ramiel stayed and fought by her side along with the others. Then death happened to the normal folks that could not fight well.
Ramiel was only kept alive due to keeping his distance and measuring his own strength. He wasn’t that confident and he chooses his target well with utmost paranoia. Only when a fast one would try to kill Peronell that he would become reckless in his endeavors. Luckily for Peronell, she was charismatic enough to attract adventurers in her command.
The Bishop also saw her as someone who can be trusted to keep them safe. The Bishop, the priests, and the nuns were tending to the injured, while some of their guards protect them. The Open fields didn’t have any warp gates appearing so it was a suitable place for them. There was a small fort near the open fields, it was mainly used for training soldiers but now it became a place to defend. The small fort had a captain and after fending off the monsters in the vicinity of the fort, the captain sent a message for the Bishop to withdraw to the fort. The Bishop was a kind hearted man, so he went and ordered his guards to protect the folks retreating while they take a step back.

Peronell was notified of the bishop’s plan. She thought for a second, before summoning a volley of seeking bolts that caused the monsters of lesser beings to die. Almost fifty of them got killed, making the adventurers, mages and common folks shout in unison. Ramiel saw how unsteady her step was so he assisted her. Peronell smiled at Ramiel, she then stood up, readied another shot as she assisted the people retreating to the stone fort. After that shot, Peronell entrusted herself to Ramiel for protection, she was tired from the entire mass volley she shot. She was out of energy and was close to mental exhaustion.
Ramiel did what she asks, using his shoulder he supported Peronell while keeping the humanoid monsters that looked like meat glued together far. It took ten minutes to cross the open fields. Many people died while retreating, and only until Peronell recovered some of her energy that she was able to stand again.
The small fort was able to accommodate hundreds of people. But it wouldn’t mean that it would last if surrounded. The inside of the fort was quite populated; no one dared to go out to the roof other than the Bishop, some mages, and a few adventurers.
Ramiel and Peronell went there; they saw the city burning on top of the fort, the vast city was covered in warp gates. While some of them were being destroyed, as long as the girdled undead dragon still exists then there would be no end to them.
The Curse of Sanctus that is now enveloping the world is currently still at the beginning. What they are fighting at the moment is simply the lesser beings that are summoned by the warp gates. The lesser beings that Julian Nostredame fended way were staying on the forests, waiting for any prey.
The outside world was always filled with monsters, but with the Sanctus Curse, the monsters tripled in size. The City of Gann or cities with the huge population was luckier. The villages and low populated towns around the world were being invaded by various continents. The Hillines continent, the non-human continent, the savage lands were suffering. The Dungeon continent was far better; they were already used to hordes of monsters so they fair better.
Ramiel stared at the chaos, and every time the images of skulls in the clouds appear, he would feel an aching sensation. He could feel that there was something affecting him, and when he looked at his hand he could see that he grew back his three fingers, but instead of happiness what greets him was disgust, they look like they were made of ebony wood, and he could only feel disgusted. It was unsettling for him and when he was about to take a seat, he suddenly felt his vision spur, as he feels that the newly found strength’s backlash. As he fainted with his eyes rolled up, Peronell who was near him caught him in worry.

A Fate Set in Stone (On Hold)
After dying and making his way into the afterlife, our protagonist happens to have a stroke of good luck. With the help of the substitute god of death, he's given a second shot at life in a world run by gods who probably played too many video games as kids. Monsters, magic, dungeons, bandits, and all that good stuff is there, except it turns out to be much different than Jed initially expected.(I picked some generic tags since this is my first story and I am not 100% sure where it is going to go. Mature warning is only there for some less-than-polite language.)

Author's Note: Inspired by the Wuxia/Xianxia genre the magic system is comprised of cultivating through different Worlds of power, where each World offers more strength and abilities. Currently there are five Worlds known: Essence Practitioner, Essence Channeler, Essence Warrior, Essence Conquerer, and finally Essence Ruler. (And for the best reading experience I recomend altering your width setting to about 70 or 80 percent on desktop.) Table of Contents: Prologue Part 1: Homecoming (chapters 1-12) Part 2: Journey (chapters 13-25) About 70 percent complete. I'll update this figure over time and begin posting again after I finish it and go through several rounds of editing.
