Chapter 118 - Bulls Eye At
The ogres were about ten feet tall. Green skinned, muscled, club-wielding, and armored. Overlooking the whole area, surveying every corner the ogres were definitely controlled to stand watch. Ramiel can see that the eyes of the ogres were dim, no light, and certainly, have the look of a doll.
Most of the people Ramiel is with have positioned themselves. The local guards with their bows drawn, the soldier encampment with their crossbows notched. And the ballista mounted beasts positioned to take the shot.
The strategy that Ramiel’s group had was simple. Using Peronell, they would ask her to fire bind and grapple bolts and pinned down the ogres. With the ogres pinned down, the ballista’s could be fired to pierce through the armor of the ogres.
If this succeeds then it will be over for the ogres. They would have to worry about the cultists inside the den. The local guards and the soldiers of the encampment agreed to bury the cultist alive. The den would be surely heavily guarded and trapped. Peronell has greater eyes and mana sensitivity due to her half-elven blood. She could smell the miasma inside the den. So going in there knowing that it might be filled with undead and summons is nothing but suicidal.
The Ser Knight that was with them also strategized how to take down the den with the ballista’s. He saw weak points all over the den and even laughed how careless the cultists were. Ramie listened to the other soldiers and all of them had different strategy and mindset.
Ramiel wasn’t smarter than them. He wasn’t experience than them and certainly, he wasn’t like Peronell and Raul, heck even Abby who knows how to fight well. He was inferior to them hence Ramiel didn’t dare to spout his opinions. Sure he has a few tricks on his sleeves but there is a difference between imagining it to happen than actually using strategies that work.

The natives of this world were much stronger than anyone on Ramiel’s world. At least Ramiel couldn’t see many peaked individuals that can carry greatswords weighing hundreds of kilogram walking around easily in his world. It’s the world that made the humans this strong, at least capable enough to fight against monsters. Sure in this world the humans are considered the lowest of race in terms of strength. But as every human civilization humans try to surpass them with creativity and brilliance.
So Ramiel couldn’t see himself a better person than the people around him. He wasn’t superior to them he didn’t have any qualities that make him better than them at all. In fact, he is the weakest around this group. Other than his ability to cast healing spells that everyone can learn, Ramiel isn’t a valuable existence or an irreplaceable member of this group.
He is a normal human that will die if he gets careless. He is no hero, and Ramiel notes that heavily inside his mind.
...
Ramiel readied himself along with the others. Peronell fired her first shot and quickly bound the ogres and pinned them down heavily. The Ser Knight that was with them too immediately gestured for the ballista’s to fire and indeed the ballista’s that were loaded with giant bolts pierced the chest of the ogres like they were nothing.
The howl of the Ogres sounded out loudly at the den. The bowmen and crossbowmen shot the ogres and planted them with arrows, making the ogres bleed to death.
That commotion made the entire den alert. But with deliverance cultists appearing outside, the crossbows, the bows, and even Peronell’s magic arrow rained a volley of arrows upon them. The Deliverance cultists didn’t even manage to make sounds as the arrows, bolts and magic bolts pierced their skulls.

The Ballista wasn’t also stopping their attacks. With the lever operated ballista, it was easy for the one’s operating it to fire repeatedly at the den. The Deliverance cultists have their fangs too so most of them tried to bring Ramiel and the others with mass spells. But Abby used her barrier formation to protect the soldiers. She heavily placed all her energy on the barrier, instead of using them as spells. That way she can protect the people around her much efficiently.
Ramiel watched on the side. He saw the one-sided massacre and thought how brilliant the Ser Knight leading them. They were ‘elite’ after all so there was no way they could be incompetent. Ramiel didn’t even fire any bolts since there was no way he could hit at this distance. He didn’t have any training in them anyway so the chances of hitting the cultists were nil.
The battle continued on for a while. The Cultists at first were rushing out of their dens with the ballista firing, trying to crumble it, but the cultists made use of earth magic to fortify some parts, making them not completely buried.
The Ser Knight smiled at the thought of the cultists. He then told his men to ready themselves for a close-up fight. Ramiel gulped as he said those words, emptying his mind he resolved in taking life again. He was without alcohol today, and oddly he was calmer now than ever.
It pains Ramiel, but it seems he got used to the killing around him. Conscience, guilt and all of that seems to have vanished from his mind. All he could think now was either survival or earning gold. That is why he readied his repeater crossbow.
But as he did, the Ser Knight overlooking the den stopped the ballista’s. Peronell also hold her fire as she watches widely at the robed man raising his arms up high. There was a thick barrier around the man, and before they knew it a giant magic circle appeared above the den.
The Ser Knight and the others sweated heavily as a giant figure appears above them. Ramiel stood up unknowingly as he braces himself at the sight of the monster. Peronell, who was used to fighting monsters was the first one to calm down as a land dragon fell down on the ground.
