Chapter 40 – Bargain Talk
“Wipe that grin off your face. It is unsightly.”
Aubrey humph at the sight of Ramiel’s grins.
“I am sorry milady. I am just thrilled that there is someone who can speak my language. It is quite baffling to me.”
With someone able to understand his words, Ramiel became polite.
“It is no issue to me. I can understand the thought.”
“I see. By the way milady, I know that you somehow managed to learn the language in barely a month...but there are still things about the language”
“How I managed?”
Aubrey cut him off.
“Didn’t I say I am the cursed scriber? I scribe everything that can be written down the paper. My ancestors were doing all of this and in my case. I have written down hundred dead languages. So when it comes to deciphering, I am a professional. So having that simple language thrown at me then having to understand it is merely a simple task when you are used to it at least, matching and knowing how a language works are something that I am used to.”
Ramiel nodded in understanding. It was natural for a scriber like her to understand any language as long as she ‘deciphers’ it. So it was no surprise to Ramiel.
“You are staring at me.”
Ramiel jumped back at Aubrey’s words.
“I am sorry. It is a weird habit of mine.”
“Hmph, don’t do that again. Now pick up the scrolls and roll it down to me.”
As she said that, a bluish barrier appeared around her. Ramiel frowned at the appearance of the barrier. Aubrey saw that frown and said.
“I don’t trust you that much. You probably could not do anything to me. But as you can see, the barrier also helps in repelling the wind that enters the window. So don’t take it to heart.”

“I see. But still, why am I even here for?”
Ramiel said.
“I know that there are other people that you can order around. Why me? What are you even planning towards me?”
“You are awfully conceited.”
She said blankly.
“It is not like you are anything special. In fact, the probable reason that Gundry chooses you to work here because you are much better than the peons.”
“I don’t get it.”
“I too do not understand Gundry’s way of thinking too. He said that you are much more ‘morally upright’ that most of the locals. And even though that sounds odd coming from him, I still went with him knowing that his guts told him to.”
Lady Aubrey’s crimson eyes stared straight towards Ramiel. He didn’t understand why Gundry suddenly became like that. In Ramiel’s mind, nobles don’t care about what the lower people’s situation is. He got that idea from the many stories he has seen in his world.
So normally just telling that he is in this job because he is morally upright is all bullshit to Ramiel. He thinks it is mere lip service and beyond that, there is a goal.
Ramiel has always been a cynic on things. It is a big part of his mind that people run by self-interest. So when Aubrey told him all of that. His mind immediately got skeptic about how the way she said it.
“I see. But still, isn’t it simple just for him to be here all the time? I mean, isn’t he your servant?”
“GUNDRY IS NOT MY SERVANT”
Said Aubrey loudly, there was a bit of anger in her tone.
“Gundry may be had been serving my family for years. But he is never a ‘servant’. So do not speak that he is a servant again commoner. I might just get angry.”

“I understand.”
Ramiel said apologetically. He could not allow the lady in front of him to be angry at him. He thought, that if somehow this lady becomes someone that hates him. He really might not able to survive this world.
In every world, communication is the key. Without knowing the language of the land and how to speak it, surviving is unlikely. Ramiel knew that in every world there is a need for the ability to speak. Ramiel understood that heavily when he came into this land.
That is why currently inside his head. He could not allow losing the only person that he could talk to. She is the person that might able to make Ramiel truly learn the language.
“I am sorry for my rudeness.”
So Ramiel spoke again. He thought that he must get to the good side of the lady. It doesn’t matter what, but Ramiel said to her.
“Please teach me how to speak the language of the land. It doesn’t even matter if you take my compensation or whatever you want but please teach me the language of the land master scriber!”
“Why should I?”
“Um, I can show you something amazing!”
“What?”
“I have a tool.”
“You mean that flashing tool? What about it?”
“You know that already?”
“Yes, Gundry told me that. Tell me, what is so amazing about it?”
“It can capture still images and moving images! I mean Milady doesn’t go out too much right!” Ramiel spoke what he gathered in his mind. He knew that a girl like this who is as pale as snow should be staying in the house all the time. He can also see the way she acts that is someone who probably desires the outside world. That latter is Ramiel’s rough guess but in the end, he needs to say anything that can attract her attention.
“Interest...and the latter are indeed true.”
I got it right! Ramiel thought. He then continued while pulling the camera out of his pocket:
“And here is the tool. As you can see that the flower that you two first ordered me to get, I recorded it. And in exchange for teaching me the language...I can capture more scenery for you milady!”
Ramiel said rather passionately. He was getting desperate and luckily for him, the restless lady who dwells under the rooftop, liked what he just said.
“Okay then. If that tool is amazing then I guess we can do a bargain. But still...for a device to exist. What are you?"
"That is..." Ramiel thought deeply before replying.
"Actually milady..."

Phantom Storm
"Have you heard, the entire Bonanno crew was brutally murdered!" Exclaimed a youth in his early teens. "What? you're lying, again!" Another similarly aged child responded with crisp denial in his tone. After all, the crew was infamous for their ruthlessness. An eery silence passed between them. Soon enough, the teens' curiosity trumped his ego, and he found himself inquiring in a meek voice. "So...Who did it?" "I heard my father talking about it while he was drunk. Guess what he said?..." The child responded, he was a natural-born storyteller. Listening intently, the other teen urged him on. "It was done by a single person. When the police arrived, the bodies were charred black, likely the work of an electro mage. Most had an arrow or two lodged in their body, and a few were even chopped into neat little slices by a sharp blade." He paused, inhaling sharply. "All the victims had shocked expressions on their faces. As if the enemy was invisible or something. That's why they call that person the Phantom Storm!" concluded the adolescent with an excited glint in his eyes. 2 CHAPTERS PER WEEK (Canada time) [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] -------------------------------------------- Follow Itsuki as he is reincarnated in an unfamiliar world, left to discover where he belongs in such a place.
