Chapter 35 – Impasse
Spring quickly faded away as if nothing. The blazing light of summer approached, shining down upon the kingdom of Lin. And when the weather is too hot for the people, they would usually find shelter. In the kingdom of Lin, there are places that can be considered as a haven.
Some of the people who didn’t have any work went to those places to cool off. Almost no one is hanging around in the blazing streets unless they were merchants or buyers in the business streets. The Inn and Taverns placed upon the residential districts were having a blast with profit.
The Galleon Ships coming from the other nations also amassed upon these establishments to refresh their dried throats and flaky skins. The cold ale and wine help a lot for them. Of course, other than the Inns and Taverns, the brothels are also having a good time serving the sweaty customers.
Cold beverages were currently the best at the moment. And those who have the power to freeze water are also making a killing in selling ice to the cool out of customers.
Magic is convenient. And in one particular Inn, a person was rather capable in the four elements. This person is none other than Felli. She was called the bloody caravaneer not for her abilities with the sword. But due to her elegant handling of the elements she commands.
Hence despite the weather almost burning the skin of the locals, the owner of the Orient Inn wasn’t even experiencing the heat. She casted resist heat upon herself to fend off the heat. That is why despite her staying in the kitchen, cooking for the customers that visited her Inn. She has no complaints about the hot weather.
Making use of her cooking utensils to the fullest, Felli was rather used to cooking fast now. She can handle cooking four dishes at once, and even cutting up the vegetables and other ingredients was child’s play for her.

“Ramiel deliver this now!”
She called out to Ramiel.
“Yes, Boss Felli!”
Ramiel replied beyond the kitchen before coming inside. He then took the dishes that Felli held up and brought it to the table that ordered them.
“Hey lad, get me a cold one!”
“Got it!”
“Hey, give me one of the fried dishes.”
“Okay.”
Ramiel replied at the various customers speaking to him. He can at least understand some of the phrases due to watching Desha. And since he can speak a bit of the basic now, he doesn’t hold back. So when there is a phrase he can understand, he would reply to them with the simply ‘okay’ ‘got it’ ‘I understand’ and even the phrases to reply when the customers are about to enter or leave.
Ramiel walked back to the kitchen. He filled two mugs with ale and informed Felli about the dishes. After waiting a minute or two, Ramiel took the orders and placed them upon the tables of the customers.
Sweat beads rolled on the side o Ramiel’s head. Wiping the beads of sweat, he continued on serving the customers while gritting his teeth.
...
During the afternoon the customers would vacate the Orient In. And during this time, the two servers of the Inn would be able to just lean on the tables, waiting for Felli to return. She was gathering supplies for the Inn at the moment
Ramiel was cleaning up the tables, while Desha was taking the plates and mugs to the kitchen. The two were working quite well with each other. Despite their inability to speak to each other, Ramiel and Desha get along just well.
“I am done here.”
Desha said.
“Okay.”
Ramiel replied while cleaning a table.
“Are you going to take a rest soon?”

“I will.”
“Do you even understand me that much?”
“?”
Ramiel tilted his head in wonder. He did not understand what Desha was speaking. Desha glances at the confused Ramiel and understood he probably didn’t understand her. Desha sat down on a chair. Focusing her eyes at Ramiel, who was busy working, she thought.
At least he isn’t annoying. Although it is irritating how he can’t understand us that much.
A cloud like cat arrives on the floors of the bar. Seeing this cat, Desha beacon the cat to approach her. Felina the Cat then went to Desha. The Cat got hugged tightly.
Ramiel looked at Desha hugging the cat. He thought that it was quite a fluffy cat. He turns to one of the chairs and sat down. Taking a breath, Ramiel gave up a big sigh. He looked at his wrist. It was shivering in pain.
Nothing really happened in the last days of the Spring Season. Ramiel was always working on the Inn while at the same time, he would help at Lady’ Aubrey’s place. His study of the language has been slowly improving. Felli wasn’t really that much of a teacher. So Ramiel sometimes would bother Gundry to teach him. He seems to be good at teaching. Not to mention that Ramiel noticed his multi-lingual abilities.
He can understand how to teach. And Gundry was smart enough to somehow understand Ramiel’s meanings. It was quite a relief for Ramiel that he knows someone that could understand him. But he is still far from being able to completely speak the language.
He was even surprised that he was able to speak some phrases towards the locals in just within the few months. He studied some language back in his world but it took him at least four years to master them completely. So this progress even surprises Ramiel. He never thought that the desperation really would help him learn faster.
I guess that’s great. Argh, damn my wrist hurts.
Ramiel looked at the bump on the side of his right wrist. It seems to be another swollen lymph node, and it has been making Ramiel grit in pain.
He has been taking Delo’s medicine and even though it made his swollen throat a bit better. It still didn’t cure him completely and for weeks now, he has been consuming the medicine.
It worries Ramiel. Not only that he still have no complete comprehension the language of the land. Ramiel has to worry about his condition. He has been eating well. But even so, the infection he got from eating too many unclean, uncooked and nearly rotten organs is still biting him back.

Luster
Growing up with her recently deceased mother’s addiction and her own struggles with gender identity, June Fujiwara was not a nice person. Gaining powers from nearly being murdered didn’t change that, and neither did becoming a mercenary to fund her transition. It took horrific manipulation, the resulting trauma, and the family that helped her through it all. Luster is a derivative work based on Worm by Wildbow (John C. McCrae) that begins prior to Worm and although it doesn't show straight away, the story is very AU.
