《The Inhabitants》Chapter 11. Use Your Head

Lando watched the young man in front of him carefully. The young man, Berend, then took off his shirt and showed his muscles. Lando was confused when he saw Berrend take off his clothes. They prepare to fight, not to swim. Why do you have to take off your clothes?
Berend was in front of Lando. He then unleashed a right-handed punch. Lando had never fought before, but his physical enhancement also improved his reflexes. Lando dodged a blow to the right.
"Bang!"
Lando knelt down, his stomach hurting. Berend kicked Lando's stomach with his knee. Lando realized his mistake and then got up again.
Berend again used his right hand to hit Lando. This time Lando dodged to the left. Lando countered Berend with a left-handed punch to the back of the head. Unfortunately, Lando just hit the wind. Berend dodged with a bow. Then he raised his elbow towards Lando's chin. Lando who failed to hit Berend's head couldn't control his body to move forward and finally he fell on his back. Berend's elbow hit Lando's chin hard.
Lando couldn't stay lying for long, he immediately got up to fight. This time he tried something else to fight back.
In the crowd, Anderson realizes lando fights like an amateur. From the beginning Anderson suspected Lando as a newly awakened mutant. It was very strange for someone to dare to mess around in his residence. Also, Lando is really an amateur in fighting. Anderson thought that his guess was correct. However, he still needed to do some testing. Anderson couldn't catch him before confirming Lando's abilities. In addition to confirming his conjecture, Anderson did this as well as to determine the method to imprison Lando.
Lando fell again. He had been hit and kicked many times by Berend. After all Lando was just an ordinary person whereas Berend was a trained soldier. Lando was sorely lacking in combat experience.

Berend saw Lando getting back up after falling several times. Berend started to sweat. He felt his stamina draining faster than usual. On the other hand, Lando is getting better at fighting. It was as if he could fix his mistake every time he fell.
Berend decided to make a fatal attack. Seeing Lando who just got up, Berend ran towards him. Then Berend jumped high and readied his elbows to finish Lando.
Lando caught his breath and saw Berend jump towards him. Lando didn't dodge Berend's attack and charged forward.
Berend was surprised to see Lando's actions. He felt too careless from jumping at full power. In an instant, Berend felt an excruciating pain in his crotch. When Berend turned his head, he saw Lando's upper head hit his crotch. Berend fell down with a scream of pain.
Lando was still standing breathless. He looked at Berend who was in pain while holding his crotch. Then, Lando looked at Anderson again.
Anderson ordered several people to take Berend who was in pain and then ordered two people to fight Lando. Anderson still didn't know about Lando's special abilities, so he decided to have his men give Lando more pressure.
Anderson looked at Lando once again. Ordinary people would have given up after being surrounded like this, but Lando didn't. Lando is still struggling. Anderson was more convinced that Lando was hiding something.
Two people approached Lando. They looked older than Berend. The two of them also had a bulkier body than Berend and their attack was very fast. One of the men hit Lando's cheek and sent him flying. But Lando got up again, there were bloodstains on the mask around his mouth. The two people laughed seeing Lando who was still standing in that state.
The fighting continued for almost an hour since Lando was found. Lando's stomach, legs, face, and waist had already received various punches and kicks from the two people. Half of his face mask was wet with blood. Even so, Lando still tried to stand up.

The two soldiers looked at Lando like seeing a monster. Lando was still trying to stand up despite receiving various attacks, while the two of them were getting tired.
Anderson looked at Lando curiously. 'This fellow has extraordinary mental resilience. Even though he was kicked and vomited blood, he still got back up.' Anderson sensed that something was wrong, he had sensed that Lando was stalling for time. However, Anderson didn't understand why Lando was stalling time. No reinforcements arrived, no secret weapons, and no sign of superpower. Anderson was getting more and more uneasy.
Then, from behind, there was the sound of someone vomiting. Berend who should be resting and sitting on the bed suddenly vomited. It didn't stop there, the two people who were fighting with Lando also experienced the same thing. Anderson immediately stood up and looked around. One of his men suddenly grabbed his chest and fainted. There was also someone who tried to say something but didn't make a sound, he was having shortness of breath.
Anderson then saw Lando running towards the Wardrobe. He was trying to find something from within. When Lando took it out, Anderson could see it. It's a kitchen knife. Lando gripped the kitchen knife and walked towards Anderson slowly.

Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, Revised, and Reinvigorated)
Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?---Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes. Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees. This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.---Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black. --- Cover art by Agri Karuniawan (@artofagri).
