Chapter 8: Learning and Killing.

----- Samael’s POV -----

Sophie and I walked around a lot, killing mostly lvl 2 skeletons we found. It took a long while but since I did not need to sleep it help speed things up. We kept at it until I got new windows.

“Oh cool leveled up finally, I guess good time to take a break finally” I sat down and brought up a new window.

Which one do you now pick?Evolve in to a Skeletons warrior?Level up Skeleton of Origins?

“Hey Sophie, do you know what a Skeleton warrior different from normal ones?” I turned and looked as her, leaning back against a withered tree.

“Not too sure on the details” Sophie answered back,” but they a bit stronger than just normal skeletons, normally have weapons, armor and a bit tougher. So I guessing some strength or attack bonus and more hp I guess?” Sophie moved around and tilted her head a bit. “That’s my thought at least, why?”

“Well I got a options to lvl up in to one or keep leveling my current race, Skeleton of Origins.” I Told her and shared the window with her.” So I thinking of staying what I am for now.” I started to explain my thoughts, “since it fairly balanced and I can use the MP bonus for later once I start to use spells.” I told her my thoughts and she nodded her head some.

I also learned how to use Fury slash better and now it worked. I had a few times it did not work at all, and then while I was mad at that, I tried again it did work. It was tired to me emotional state, so worked well in rough fights but when I was claim, like now, it would not work at all. I told Sophie about what I leaned during our Exp farming.

“Really now, most Skills take mana, ki or stamina, your skill seem to be rather unique. Because as long you are mad enough you could have unlimited use of it as much as you wanted.” Sophie told me,” I think upgrading your current race a good idea also. I can start to teach you some basic spells and see how it works. Even if you can use magic does not mean you can use it well after all” she smiled some.

“Well, let’s get you leveled up and then I teach you how to use the basic magic” Sophie told me and ‘sat’ down in front of me.” Now magic has some limits: First is mana, without it magic will not work. Second is mages do have a limit on the spells they can learn. An lvl 10 mage for instance might learn up to 10 tier 1 spells normally. What I am teaching you now are level 0 spells, anyone with any magic talent can use them. They are very basic but help get you ready to use real spells. They normal call cantrips since their effects are more showy then useful.”

I nodded as I listened to her while I decided to upgrade my Skeleton of Origins Race. A light dark mist flowed around me for a moment, just leaving my dark red flame like eyes visible for a moment. The mist then seeped in to my bones before it disappeared completely. I felt a bit tougher, even with all the cracks in my bone. I titled my head some looking myself over slowly, before noticing a small share of something attacked to the inside of my rib cage. It looked like the monster cores I been gathering from the other skeletons I been defeating. ”huh so I got a core not also, guess that’s one way to gauge some monster strengths.” I murred out loud, my red eyes flicking a bit brighter and faster.

While Sophie started to teach me how to use magic, I placed my hand on my weapon and started to repair it. The dagger I got from that rat-man boss been very useful even with it short range. Sophie looked at what I was doing.” What are you doing ?” she asked and floated a bit closer to get a better look.

“Oh this is a skill I got from a skill book, Repair, let’s me fix some things using mana, although there are some limits since it in the starting stages right now.” I shrugged and chuckled.” Although let me save money and time by not needing to stop monster hunting. I used it a few times while fighting so did not need to worry about it breaking mid fight.” I ‘smiled’ some, my eyes burned brighter.

“What you defeated a boss already?” Sophie asked me

“Ah yeah, one mini boss and one rat-man boss before I meet you.” I nodded and put my dagger away. “They were not too tough but nearly did me in at the time. Really did not have a choice.” I then told her what I was doing before I meet her.

“That’s pretty good although suicidal, didn’t you know bossed are around 4 times stronger than normal versions ?”

I shook my head some slowly, some loud creaking heard as my bone ground against each other.”I did not, due to my curse I do not get any information or help from the hero system.” I sighed and shivered some thinking back. ”Well I ‘lived’ so it all good now I guess, I just have to be more careful next time.” I sat down crossing my leg and then sighed deeply.

“Well maybe you do better as a caster later, I start now while we resting to teach you a cantrip. Let start with something easy and useful against most undead.” Sophie smiled at me, “First can you sense mana right?” I nodded some.” Ok good, next is to get used to feeling the mana inside of your body. Then focus it while thinking of the effect and say the spell name. We will start with Burn it does very little damage but it pretty cheap to cast, it also used to start fires for camps when needed so it does have uses.”

“Now when you get used to magic and level up some you can earn talents at certain points. These can be use to unlock powerful abilities. One many magi like is maximize magic which doubles cost but also doubles the power of a spell. Some other talents I know of are boosted spell, raises a spell level up to help it bypass some monsters defense. Widen spell lets you double the range of a area of attack spell. And then there double or even triple magic, which cast the same spell 2 or 3 time at the same time, with the right spells can clear out a huge area.” Sophie smiled and pointed to herself.”I can use empower myself, although I have to be care with holy magic now. Empower increases the output of the spell by an extra 50%” she smiled proudly, “both power and its area of effect. It seems some have requirements to get them so once you get talents points use them carefully. They can only be used once and permanent once used.”

I started to focus as Sophie told me, a few times burning my own fingers, till i finally learned.
