Well all I’ll be using some ideas from other ff at times as well things from ln like over lord, some D&D, and other PnP sources.
In addition, to warn his broken body and his curse are two different things, but together they make our poor MC life a bit difficult.

Chapter 3
I sigh and try to think of my HP
[tr]HP41
[tr]EXP70
I chuckled to myself a bit while I walked down another tunnel, stabbing a few small rats along the ways. Gaining 2 exp per rat. Oddly I noticed no lingering warmth from the tiny rats. Maybe only monsters or lvl things with lvls only I can drain the life of? ; I will have to test it bit more to be sure. At least with this double exp buff I can earn exp faster and hopefully get an lvl and pick a job.
While I was thinking, I walked up to a new room and peeked inside. What I saw was another giant brown rat, so I walked in carefully and got ready to attack. However before I could do anything it tail snapped out me. I barely raised my sword in time to block the hit and was pushed back a few feet.
-2 popped up and I sighed as I tried to slash back the tail before it moved to far away.i missed with my attack as I was a moment to slow. My bones creaking some from the stress, as I moved as the rat turned to face me, it’s tail kept snapping out me rapidly. I barely dodged by twisting my body being careful and testing out my range of motions. I noted as I watched how it moved and kept circling it, forcing the giant rat to keep turning around. I got the feeling if I stood in front of it, it would likely rush me and I am not sure I could take a full body tackle. I took up a stance and stepped in closer to the rats face and stabbed tight in to it neck. The reason I did not slash it was the blade was fairly dull but the tip still had some of a edge to it.
-5 popped up as well as a ,

I grinned to myself mentally as I moved to the other side as it turned it tried to take a bite nearly getting me leg. I twisted the sword up, until it was parallel with the floor, while just at my right shoulder level. I then took a quick step in and thrust the tip of the sword right at head, scoring a hit to it’s eyes.
along with -9 flashing over its head. Then another window popped up

After that, I just kept circling the rat and stabbing it a few more times before it fell over. I then stepped up close and stabbed it through the damaged eye, getting a

As I thought it gotten damaged, I need to find a way to fix it or a new one soon at this rate. Only 2 rats in and it already lost 1 point. At this current pace 18 more rats in and it be broken. Looking at my fist, I likely hurt myself more than my target if I hit them. I decided to take the tail of this one to in-case I can use them later. So I lifted the end of the tail with one hand and slashed at it a few times, while being careful, till I had my second rat tail. I quickly stored it in to my bag and looked around noting the next tunnel starting to curve some. I pilled one 4 stone making small pile near the new tunnel so I know if I been here before if I somehow got lost since this place deeper than I thought it would be.
I kept going room to room killing all the big and small rats I could find. While I was walking the turns in the tunnel became tighter till I stood in a large, and I’m guessing, central room. On the far side I could see some stairs leading down, however between there and where I was something different. Since I got in here, I only have seen giant brown rats. What stood in front of me was

Giant Black Rat lvl 4:Rare
Not only was it darker and harder to see, it was at least 20% larger than the giant brown rats. The Rare title rather worried me some, but if I wanted to go deeper, I have to get past it. Looking it over slowly I took note how there were large spines growing out from under it fur. I sighed deeply and looked around, the ground was uneven, dark and a 4 broken stone pillars.
Spoiler :

I took a few steps back till I could no longer see the rat and sat down.

I chuckled as it sat the pack down looking at the tail collection I had gathered. I shrugged and took a loose stone and lightly rubbed it along the blade of my sword rubbing off some of the corrosion .

I frowned some and sighed, sighed deeply.. I sat there for a bit thinking and then got an idea. I took out a rat-tail and moved slowly closer to the room, and then throw it to the back. Liked I hoped it turned around hearing the noise as it tail hit the floor and started to eat it. I thought as I moved in and slashed down on the thick tail. I then grunted as a small -4 flashed a moment as I only cut down 1/4 in to the tail. A loud squeak echoed in the room as I jerked my sword out of the tail and dodged behind a pillar as it spun around quicker then, I thought. as it slashed some stone from the pillar: I was using it as shield I stabbed at it side and moved rapid to the other side to avoid it tail the snapped around. It clipped my leg and I felt as if something went wrong as a -9 flash while I nearly fell over as my left leg nearly broke under the attack. I quickly peeked out seeing the bleeding debuff on it and small -1 now and then pop up.
I grin some, as I used stone fragments off the ground and threw them around to confuse the rat. I then ducked out and tried to give it a stab in the neck. However soon as I came out it claws slashed out and ripped my left hand off as I jumped back. -5 flash and I felt a bit worn out, looking at my hp quickly,36. I grunted and moved around the pillar and took a jab at it head. Forcing it back an step and as it retreated I jumped out and stabbed it’s throat earning satisfying
grunted as he watched the rat coming down with jaws opened wide. I angled my sword with my good arm the best I could and braced my elbow against the stone pillar behind me. A sicking crack heard as my right arm fractures grew bigger and another -10 flash. My sword however pushed down the rat’s mouth and stabbed it in the back of the throat. Making an -10 flashed by, as it struggled he grunted and twisted the sword inside of the rats mouth some as complained some. As he let his emotions run wild, a black haze forming around him and moved down his sword. his red flame eyes grew brighter as growled to himself, his sword suddenly thrust out of the back of the giants rats head. With a squeak the black rat fell over and twitched a bit as the black haze faded.

I re-looked at my HP at merely 10/50 and sighed deeply. I stood up slowly and looked at my copper sword, it was thinner and the tip slightly bent. I sighed and moved over to the black rat started to cut off it tail. As I finished a window popped up.
“Yes” I said out loud, as soon as I said it the corpse shimmered and faded out.

Mortis Operandi 1- New Hire
Thank you for reading, I have to start with that. The feedback and encouragement from RoyalRoad users helped me finish my book. I left the unedited version up as I worked on editing and making it a little more polished. However the time has come for me to put it on Amazon and hopefully let other people read the story. If you have Kindle unlimited you should be able to read the story there. If you just want to order an ebook version you can do that as well. I should have a paperback version coming up. https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07T46B4NM Again thank you for reading and helping me on this journey. It hasn't ended however, my second book which I'm hoping to do well enough that reading the first isn't completely necessary, is still being worked on here, https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/24562/mortis-operandi-2--terms-and-conditions . Any feedback, comments, even critism is welcome as I work on giving you the best version of my story. I'll leave the first two chapters up here, unless Amazon says otherwise. There should be enough differences to avoid issues though. THANK YOU! Thank you! thank you! __________________________________ Adventurers enter dungeons every day. When you are trying to study ancient lore or plan on conquering a kingdom, you don't want to worry about all that. You just want peace. Mortis Operandi is a different kind of company.
