《A Different Kind of Hero (-)》Chapter 16: Style and Lazlo

Hey guys, sorry for no update the past two days. I got lazy Monday, and Tuesday was Destiny weekly reset so I was on Ps4 all day.

On a side note, I changed the one and a half week timeframe before the war to 2 and a half weeks.

~Lorne~

I did not have to sleep with the body I had, so I could have stayed awake the entire night, but sleeping was still peaceful. It was more of a luxury than a necessity. Plus, I slept besides Morgan who needed to sleep unlike me. Especially after last night.

I looked around the room after having woken up, and noted that the sun had come up around an hour ago judging by the brightness. I have always been able to wake myself up when I needed to, so it was quite easy to wake up with this new and improved body of mine.

I slowly sat up, while cautiously looking to my right where Morgan slept. I didn't want to wake her, so I moved slowly. I even considered using [Hide Presence], however it was more fun with risk. And I also didn't think it would work all too well considering I was right next to her, and even if my presence was gone she might feel the movements from the bed.

After carefully getting up in a process that took a minute, I put on my clothes. I let her sleep and rest, but I wanted to explore a bit.

Before I left the guild, I took a Basilisk Subjugation quest. I would go and complete it with Morgan once she woke up, but I wanted to look a bit more presentable. The clothes I had on were getting worn out.

I had planned to visit a blacksmith today, and I doubt I wouldn't find one in a town full of adventurers. I really didn't even need protection, just fashion. My skin was better than any armor I would be able to find here.

With that said, I started to head out. I looked back one last time at Morgan, then quietly closed the door, leaving her the keys while I went out. We could feel one another's presence via the contract, so she wouldn't lose me. There wasn't really anything to worry about.

I headed down the hall that was lined with countless other rooms, then went down the stairs. I reached the main entrance area and walked out while ignoring the stares. I would really need those illusion potions soon, it's getting annoying.

After walking out of the door, the brightness of the sun hit me. I had to squint and adjust, but it didn't hinder me in any way. I had felt out for any presences via [Perception] since I walked out of our room. No hostility in the air, and it looks like the guys that were on our tails yesterday are gone.

Looking around, the city was very pleasant looking. There was bickering over prices near a stall, happily chatting city folk, kids admiring some adventurers with shiny gear, it was nice.

Without any rush, I began to walk around the city. I took a right from the guild and walked that way. I had a lot of time, so for now I would just look at things while also keeping an eye out for the blacksmith.

There were a lot of restaurants on my walk. Seafood restaurants, Bilorn restaurants (I'm guessing some kind of boar), and whatever Sesqual was. Most of them tried to differ from the others. You never saw two similar restaurants within a decently sized radius of one another.

Of course, they served everything, but specialities and focuses were different. Kind of like if you go to Outback for steak, and see fish on the menu. It's mainly a steak restaurant, but it has other choices.

I walked for a while, maybe an hour or so before I came across a blacksmith. I wasn't looking for hand made gear specifically for me, just a shop to buy gear at.

Anyway, without delay I walked through the door. There was a nice chime of a bell near the top of the door as I went in. Afterwards, I heard a thump near the counter, followed by a "Yowch" from a grizzly old man.

The man appeared to be in his sixties, and had a large gray beard like a certain wizard, but had the figure of a certain dwarf from the same movie series that wizard was from.

Rubbing his head, the old man spoke.

"Ay, what can I do for you?" (Dwarf)

Awesome, his voice sounds like him too.

"Hello, I was just looking for some Light armor. Can you show me their location?"

"Sure young man, follow me." (Dwarf)

He seemingly hopped down from a stand he had been on behind the counter, and walked over towards me, then we both went across the shop to the front right corner.

"This be all my light armor. Most of it is leather, a few light metals here and there. The prices are written on papers sown onto them. When you pick out the ones you like, just come back and i'll take em off you you after you pay and ye be on your way." (Dwarf)

His shop was run rather smoothly. The prices were sowed on with a few strings, so only a scissor would cut it. Or a dagger. He'd probably use a dagger. The price tags were nice instead of him giving you a price outright and then sitting there haggling over him maybe pricing it more because of you being wealthy, or whatever.

The Dwarf walked back to the counter, then went to the room behind it to do whatever he had previously been doing.

I looked away from him, then down at the armors. This whole section included light armors made of leathers and hides, as well as daggers and throwing knives. I didn't need the knives of daggers since I would break them from the sheer force of my swing, and I didn't even need it with the scythe anyway.

Some of the leather works were just the armor, and some had designs made of metals. The latter was obviously more expensive, but was more presentable. Fashionably expensive.

I searched through the armors, and found a chest-piece and leggings I liked. They were made of some kind of black skinned creature, and it was tough. There was also nice silver designs etched on them.

The prices were 4 gold for the chest, and 3 for the legs. With that 7, I had a little over 1 gold left from what Tammy gave me. However, I would earn it back after killing the Basilisk.

With that 1 gold, I found some black shoes I likes and paid 50 silver for it. I now had something close to a gold left. Satisfied, I walked over the the Dwarf and paid up.

Sure enough, he pulled out a dagger and cut out the price tags.

I thanked him, but before I left I asked if there was a place I could change. He told me to head near the area I was previously, and I did. I went into a small room, changed, took the quest out of my old clothes, putting them in my new, then left after thanking him once more and burning the old clothes into nothingness with [Flare].

He was a nice old fellow, and I liked Dwarves. Dwarves were cool.

When I exited the shop, I decided to head back. I started to walk towards the inn, but I was stopped by Morgan. It seems like she woke up and came looking for me.

"Looks like I finally found you." (Morgan)

She spoke rather seductively. I replied similarly.

"So you have."

I walked in closer and gave her a kiss, but parting lips and speaking once more. We got some astonished looks from onlookers, but we ignored them.

"You look good in that outfit. I like it." (Morgan)

"Thanks, I just needed something that would hold out longer. I also enjoyed the look of something new like this."

"Well, whatever your reason was, you look better than you did in those old clothes." (Morgan)

I brief moment of pause as I pulled out the quest and quickly read the location of the quest.

"We should hurry and get to that Basilisk Subjugation place. I have the quest right here. It's somewhere called Alcoh. Do you know of it?"

She seemed to ponder a bit before her face slightly lit up and she replied.

"It is south of here, closer towards the border, but still on the demon's territory. Carriages only take a day to get there. It shouldn't take us long." (Morgan)

Upon saying that, she suddenly realized something. I realized it too, and started to smile mischievously. She then began to sweat, and pleaded.

"It's only a day..." (Morgan)

"A day is too long."

"But" (Morgan)

"It'll be fun. I'll go slower."

"Promise?" (Morgan)

"Promise"

And promise I did indeed. We set off with a cruising speed of a few notches slower than sound. Around 600mph (965km). Surprisingly, she held out this time. She didn't faint or anything like that. I was impressed.

We 'flew' for a minute before arriving to where we needed to be. Upon landing, I let her down, and complimented her.

"You held out this time. It seems like you are getting used to it."

"Yeah, I was surprised too, and YOU DIDN'T SLOW DOWN" (Morgan)

"No need to shout, I slowed down by like 100mph."

"sigh" (Morgan)

"Well, let's head into the town and look for..."

I pulled out the quest. On it had all the information we would need. It first said to go to Alcoh, then to find a Mr. Lazlo. Once you spoke with Mr. Lazlo, you would be given the location of the Basilisk to subjugate.

"...Mr Lazlo."

I then began to walk towards the town. Morgan was still a bit mad at me, but not nearly as much as she initially was when we first took flight.

Before we walked up to the gate, I spoke out.

"I'm going to sneak in by going around, you go through the front entrance. I don't want another predicament like in Gorghen."

With that, Morgan nodded and I flashed away into the trees. I watched her walk in, and she made it in pretty easily. There was a bit of shock of her being a dragon, but it wasn't too bad. Afterwards, I used [Mass Teleportation] and teleported inside.

I half expected to get a notification saying that I got [Teleportation], but I figured that [Mass Teleportation] must be a better version of it.

I teleported next to Morgan, and luckily nobody saw. She was startled when I appeared though. With her hand on her chest, she yelled in whisper.

"Warn me when you do that!" (Morgan)

I simply smiled and patted her on the head a little, shutting her up completely. After that, we calmly walked around the town asking for a Mr. Lazlo. On our 4th person we finally got a location. He was apparently located near the middle of the town, and had a weirdly colored yellow house.

I also heard he liked camping, but I ignored that since it was useless to me.

Following the instructions of the man, we both ended up in front of a rather large bright yellow house. No other houses were remotely close to as obnoxious as this one was, so we figured this was it.

I knocked on the door, and after a few seconds it opened.

"Yes?"

What presented us was an old man. He was a demon of course, but he looked like Herbert from a show I used to love. He had a singular cane instead of the one with 4 legs, but his resemblance was there.

"Hello, we came from the guild for the Basilisk Subjugation." (Morgan)

Upon hearing this, the old man's eyes widened. He started to tear up and spoke with hope in his voice.

"Yes! My friend Raj and my pet Rynoh, Clam, were both killed by this beast while we went camping! We were ready for low leveled monsters, but not something like a Basilisk. Please avenge them! It is east of here currently resting in a large cave. Follow the path on the eastern gate, and when you see 3 boulders leaned on another, make a right into the forest. It's directly there! The reward is as it says in the quest!" (Lazlo)

"Don't worry Mr. Lazlo, we will be back shortly with the good news." (Morgan)

"May Monalee Bless you both!" (Lazlo)

She already has.

With that, I started to walk away from his house, followed by Morgan. After a few steps, I heard a bit of joyful weeping, then a soft *thud* as he shut the door.

I had nothing against happy moments, but for some reason, the idea of avenging the dead was annoying me. It never bothered me before, but for some reason I can't help but ask myself in secret: "Why do you care? They are dead now."

These thoughts startled me a bit, but I shook my head quickly and kept walking.

"Is everything alright?" (Morgan)

I was softly asked that question as we walked. I stayed silent for a few seconds, causing her to walk next to me and press herself against my arm before I replied.

"Yeah..."

Side Note: Good job to anyone who got the reference that was present half the chapter. I made it very obvious, but I enjoyed incorporating it into the story.
