《Midgard》Chapter 22 - Fighting Undead

Day 11 - November 02:37

Faith 8 / 50

Carefully One was cycling around the huge dog. Unlike he thought Garm was no wolf. He looked a lot like an alteration of an american bulldog. Just a lot meaner and his fur was of a really dark black colour. Naturally One’s instincts told him not to wake this dog up. It looked peaceful how he was lying there on his own pays, stretched across the roots of the thousand year old darkwood forest and the mighty guardian would probably not like it very much.

Since getting killed would most likely only result in a small punishment here in Helheim he decided to just try his luck attacking Garm. One let his daggers loose, knocking two into the dog at once. Surprisingly the sleeping beauty did not budge at all. Most likely attacks of his strength could not hope to hurt such a godly creature? One, still stubborn as he was decided to just autohit for a while. Sadly that had a very nasty aftereffect.

Garm moved in his sleep, one paw flinging One of his feet, the other buried him beneath. Now he was trapped below the claws of this huge monster and could not free himself! Great. Brilliant plan, very well executed. The constant warm breath towards his face was not very fun to deal with either. The smell of old, rotten meat and blood mixed with dog stench made him vomit. At least he tried to. The game did not allow for it. Odd, but One appreciated it. The last thing he wanted to add to his fiasco was a pool of his own vomit.

While he continued to hit away at Garm with his left, still free off-hand weapon, he thought about what he could do. Yelling for help could not possibly free him, right? He tried anyway and even found out something usefull. The dog did not seem to like him being loud.

[You took 3 damage.]

But maybe killing himself would solve his problem? No. Wait, he still had something he could use! One tried to sing for the dog. He remembered somewhere in Harry Potter he had read of a giant three headed dog that fell asleep when he heard music! Quickly he tried a quiet humming sound with the sad interpretation of lyrics to Shape of You by Ed Sheeran. And boy, how she would have ran, at least any girl would have if she heard his degradation of that song. Garm seemed to think the same.

[You took 42 damage.]

Ok, now he at least figured out how to kill himself quicker. Just when he was about to try it again with a rap song of Eminem that he probably heard a thousand times before he thought of something else. How did he not think of it earlier? Immediately he pulled out some [Bonfire Meat] and swung it in front of Garms big moist nose.

Still nothing. Disappointed One smacked him with the meat.

A squeaky and high pitched voice spoke to him: “Can I, like... have that? Smells tasty.”

One needed to turn his body completely to catch a glimpse of who had spoken. A small, golden brown Yorkshire Terrier was sitting right behind him. Barely bigger than a fist he looked at him, a ball of fluff.

“Uhm, suure….” One gave the little fellow the grilled meat. Quickly the little pup devoured the whole steak, making his size seem like a sick and twisted joke.

“Thanks.” The little Yorkie circled around him and sat down again next to Garm. This way One did not have to twist his neck extremely when he was looking at him.

“You smell funny”, the dog added.

“Uh. Sorry, I guess?”

“No, I mean it’s familiar but weird you know? It does not smell bad.”

Where did this damn game take the NPCs to constantly troll him? A small Yorkshire Terrier, telling him he smelled funny? I mean c'mon!

“I see. What are you doing here, fluffball?”

“My name’s Caligula. The bringer of Chaos!”

Of course he was. “Sure. Can you help me out from under here?”

“You got any more of them tasty snacks?”

One rolled his eyes and gave the pup another four [Bonfire Meat] before he was satisfied.

“I like you. You can be my servant if you want.”

[You have gained the [Quest: Caligula’s Training Session].]

Quest: Caligula’s Training Session:

Caligula, the most twisted of all hellhounds has requested you as his servant. The first request is the collection of delicious sweets that can be found on [Undead]’s in the [Cemetery Cavern]. You better make due or else...

Objective: Fulfill the countless unreasonable requests for [Caligula, Bringer of Chaos].

Reward: [Chain-Quest: Caligula’s Invasion Plans]; [Token of Life]

Bonus: Caligula will introduce you to [Garm, Helheims Guardian].

Decline: Don’t. Or else….

Wow, the little runt really was a serious quest NPC. The quest was nice even. Token, with which he could buy more skills, seemingly a quest where he just had to grind a couple of undead zombies and he would wake up Garm afterwards. Great.

“I will help you.”

The little Yorkie grinned happily. His voice really did fit to his appearance. “Good. Follow me.” Caligula knocked away the paw, that had kept One trapped and walked out of the cave through the tunnel. Quickly One caught up, Garm still had not woken up, even after being shaken like that. When he was still in school he would have loved to be able to sleep that way. Could have spent many religion or biology classes that way. The teachers always had woken him up and it was so hard to fall asleep again. When One reached the cavern where he started in the tent of Hel, the little hellhound had already crossed a couple hundred meters towards the next tunnel. One was already running at his maximum speed, sadly it was not a whole lot at 1.06 movement speed.

The prospect of hunting normal monsters and grinding for loot really excited him. Since the evil bunnies in the [Temple of Loki] he had not really been able to fight anything and that was still a very fun part of this game. The dagger throwing mechanic alone was quite fun to play around with and One could imagine the other classes and weapon skills were great to enjoy too. Caligula did not wait long for him and immediately continued through the tunnel upwards.

This time the tunnel had yellow crystals and white stone leading up a small stairwell. It was weird how a stairwell was fitting in here. Countless doors and probably rooms behind were lying up ahead, but his new fluffy master wanted to go through the first door. The little Yorkie took it very literal when he just crushed through the door at floor level. One had to open it and follow after him quickly. Stepping through was like stepping into an entirely new world.

A huge cavern lied ahead, all in twisted moonlight, bright enough due to the full moon shining from the ceiling.

The little dog seemed to pick up on One’s thoughts. “Yes, we arrange certain settings to make each soul feel a purpose and a living space where they do not want to break out. They don’t like to be disturbed though, and that’s where you come in. Go kill [Undead]’s and bring me some of those [Undead Bone]’s. I’m hungry.”

[Quest: [Caligula’s Training Session] was updated.]

[Repeat: Collect 50x [Undead Bone].]

[Quest Progress: 0]

Seemed like he was gonna stay and farm those bones for quite some time. Even if every single [Undead] dropped a bone he would have to kill fifty for one quest. Adding to that that it was a repeating quest, so he would most likely get a couple potions or buffs after finishing to farm faster. But One loved to grind monsters and this finally allowed him to play with his skills and level up again and again. Stepping in a couple meters into the cavern he saw the huge cemetery clearly for the first time.

Thousands of tombstones stood before him in the moonlight, every few dozen meters zombies walked around. [Undead] was hovering over their name in addition to the level the monster was at. Level 10. This would most likely be tough, [Tangun, The Cruel] had been level three back in the temple fields and if the zombies used skills as well, he would be in trouble, even though he was now way stronger than before.

Luckily they did not rot together in large groups. That would have been a pain, since he remembered having trouble with a dozen of small bunnies not too long ago. Hopefully his newly acquired skills would make for smooth farming here.

Quickly he approached a [Undead] and unleashed his [Dagger Wind I] skill. Four daggers quickly flew at the zombie rooting it and dealing damage at the same time as [Flying Dagger: Pierce I] and [Flying Dagger: Binding I] hit. The root the binding dagger provided was really helpful when dealing with melee attackers. Within the zero cooldown time on his flying daggers and two more dagger attacks after the duration the undead zombie died. Sadly the bones he needed for Caligula did not seem to drop every time. In fact the zombie just turned to dust.

[371 Experience gained.]

[Level-Up! You reached level 7.]

[Your Strength rose by 1]

[Your Vitality rose by 1]

[Your Toughness rose by 1]

[Your Speed rose by 1]

[5 Skillpoints gained.]

Right after leveling up One remembered that he had used Skillpoints on his passive praying skill last time. Quickly he inspected it again.

[Pray] 25/25

A short prayer allows you to refocus your Faith.

Costs: 1 Faith

Channel-Time: 5 Seconds.

Reward: Increases your Faith-Stat by 49 permanently. Amount increases with class progress.

[Passive: Prayer activates for all priest skills used.]

The Reward cleary had increased and seemingly it would once again as soon as he unlocked the third skill window. Which also would progress through using his [Stealth I] skill or the summoning. Sadly One was unable to apply the Skillpoints to the stealth skill. Neither he was able to use them on the flying dagger skills. Maybe there was a certain criteria he had to fulfill? The summoning skill oddly enough had no information written on it yet, so One was really curious about what exactly he would summon.

Since [Dagger Wind I] had two minutes cooldown he would have to stand around waiting for his skill more than he would farm the zombies, so One decided to just go full melee on them. Between throwing daggers he attacked with both his blades from the weak points of the undead creature. They were a little slower than himself, which allowed him to dodge most of their attacks. Sadly from time to time they did manage to get a hit in. The damage was not all too great but his farming speed did not match his regeneration at all.

Receiving between 20 and 32 damage every minute did crush his regeneration of 1 health per thirty seconds by a huge margin. So he had to switch from the rather quick auto attack and close range dagger throwing to a much slower wait for cooldowns and kite combo. It needed around eight hours to refill his HP bar passively so it was a slow process. He was only able to kill about two to three zombies per minute. After farming and killing zombies for eleven hours he had quite a bit to show for though.

[Gained 165x [Undead Bone].]

[You received 172x [Silver Coin] & 42 [Chopper Coin] in total.]

[Level-Up! You reached level 15.]

[Your Strength rose by 3]

[Your Vitality rose by 3]

[Your Toughness rose by 3]

[Your Speed rose by 3]

[40 Skillpoints gained.]

[No additional Stat-Points can be gained after level 10.]

And most importantly One finally had enough Faith stored to use his [Summon:Fenrir].

Day 11 - November 13:04

Faith 50 / 50

One used it immediately, exited about the prospect. The skill activated channeled all this power through into his hand. Instinctively he placed it flat on the ground and his hand carved a blue rune into the stone. Shiningly it absorbed all the power and activated.

[You successfully created [Summon: Fenrir I].]

[Summon: Fenrir I] 0/50

Summons a Level 5 [Grey Wolf].

Cost: 50 Faith

Furthermore Level and Strength of the summoned [Grey Wolf] is increased by +0% of Summoners Level additionally.
